I noticed a lot of the 4th year students going into surgery were very concerned about their technical skills. I had to do an observership on an MIS rotation and it seemed fairly basic. I'm just a new student but curious what you guys think students need to do for their skills, especially when I get to be a 3rd/4th year and want to do a subi, if Im still interested in surgery.

I think you are over emphasizing the importance of technical skills as a student.

It sounds as if you have mastered the basics of hand and driver ties. Perhaps the only thing that will be different from your prior MIS rotation would be the prevalence of staples for abdominal closures and of course more drain placements. Learning how to tie a drain in might be nice But otherwise I would concentrate on being the best sub I you can be..
