Technical standards for hearing

I was wondering how being completely deaf in one ear would be viewed? I am trying to make a decision about an operation that has a 10-20% chance of leaving one ear dead, but I do not want to risk becoming unqualified for med school. I would still have perfect hearing in my other ear.

I have considered contacting an office of admissions, but I was hoping this community might have the answer??? I don't really want to raise the concern of meeting technical standards, considering I am currently fully capable to meet the requirements.
Maybe I should ask at a school that has rejected me anyways?
