So I'm gearing up for the upcoming cycle and I'm browing through various school webpages and found this:

"Course credits in the required subjects become outdated if five years or more have elapsed between the completion of courses and proposed enrollment in the College of Dentistry."

Ok. I took a Bio and Chem in 2002 when I entered college. Graduated in 2006 and went str8 to graduate school and finished this past semester. Now, are they telling me that those courses I took as a freshman are outdated?? 😡

Please advise guys. Thanks a lot.

Depends on the school. I believe Loma Linda states this but I do not know the other dental schools that have this rule...

Call the schools you are really interested in. There are many students that get a masters or do post-bacc work that get in. Most people take those classes their freshman year and I doubt they had to retake them. I think this is probably means you can't take a 5 year break from school and then apply...

I applied to a bunch of schools and to the best of my knowledge was at least considered at all but Maryland (who said I never completed my 6 credits of English -- bc I tested out of English 101).

I took most of my reqs in 1998 and 1999... graduated in 2002, did a masters from 2002-2004 and worked in research from 2004-2007 before deciding on dental school. Everything worked out just fine.

Call the school and check for individual requirements but I had no problem.

I wouldn't worry about it. Talk to the schools and then apply to all the ones you want to anyway. I was in undergrad from 2000-2005 (I changed my major halfway through) then took a year to work and then got my Masters and just applied and have gotten into 3 schools so far. Don't stress it 😉
