Due to COVID it's been difficult for applicants to get a sense of programs without the ability to do an externship. For those interested in learning more about the program I wanted to post about us.

The Temple University Hospital Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program is a 4 year program that accepts 3 categorical residents and 2 non-categorical residents a year. We have 6 full time attendings and 2 part time attendings. The program has a strong emphasis on dentoalveolar and trauma.

The residents cover primary call at 4 local hospitals in the Philadelphia and southern Jersey area-two level I trauma centers and two level 2 trauma centers. We take around half the facial trauma call at Temple University Hospital.

Residents rotate through 5 months of anesthesia, with a dedicated month on pediatric anesthesia at the local children's hospital. Additional rotations include 2 months of internal medicine, 1 months on the general surgery trauma service, one month of acute care surgery, and 4 months on ENT where the residents have exposure to malignant pathology. While on service, we have a dedicated implantology rotation and pediatric OMFS rotation.

The residents have substantial exposure to IV sedation cases, with 12-16 IV sedation cases planned daily in our outpatient clinic. We treat benign pathology, manage infections and do joint/orthognathic cases on the inpatient side.

The program has ample opportunity for research; one resident has 4 JOMS publications in the last year.

The program looks for strong applicants, and has a history of taking residents straight out of dental school, applicants who have completed a non-categorical year, or those with private practice experience.

Why is there all this info about it as a 6 year?

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate (Graduate) | Temple University

I assume it used to be a 6 year option?
