Having trouble deciding between the two. Temple is about 60k cheaper, which is a nice plus in its favor. Midwestern is brand new, so the facilities are great. At Temple, their dental clinic is getting remodeled, so it should be state of the art by the time I would get into it. Midwestern's school of Dental Medicine has not yet had a graduating class, while Temple's Kornberg School of Dentistry has been around for nearly 150 years. There is a much lower chance of being stabbed in Glendale. There is a ton of history in and around Philadelphia. Midwestern's curriculum is system based, I do not think Temple's is. From my understanding, the system based curriculum makes it easier to see how everything fits together. Temple has multiple specialty programs. Midwestern is quite a bit closer to home. That's not really a big factor for me though. I am just torn... any thoughts?

Is cost a major factor for you? If it is Temple is a no brainer. Also, when do you have to put down your deposit?

LOL at being stabbed in Philly, apparently Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of America

I was going through the exact same thing, except I decided between Creighton and Midwestern. For me Midwestern is closer to home, loved the Glendale area, system-based learning is awesome, and their facilities are amazing. It was also about $70k mire expensive (not including living costs, just tuition and fees). There also has not yet been a graduating class, although I don't think that will be a problem (I'm sure they'll graduate).

Creighton, on the other hand, like Temple, has been around for over 100 years. They top-notch reputation, and great clinical training. CU doesn't gave specialties, but in my opinion (as well as many others' opinion), not having specialties is good because then you don't lose difficult patients to the residents; you get more experience. I don't know much about Philly, but if you don't feel safe there, that might be a big consideration.

In the end, I chose Creighton for all of the above reasons: cost, reputation, and clinical education. I think Midwestern will be a great program, but for me, saving money and going yo a well-established program is the best fit for me.

Good luck making your decision!

+1. No doubt cost is important, but ideally you would want to feel comfortable in the area you'll be for the next 4+ years.

I dun have anything against midwestern but... this is a no brainer. Temple all the way.

And if your thinking new facilities, by time u make it to temple's 3rd year... you will have a brand new clinic as well... they were remodeling it big time and they told us they'll be done within the next 2 years.

I am at Temple right now, and really like it. Don't worry about the area, unless you walk around in north Philly at 2 am with your iphone out it is extremely unlikely that you will be stabbed. There are also really nice parts of Philly, with a great night life, and sport teams (college and pro).

Thank you for your input everyone, much appreciated. Still undecided, I really liked both schools. One minute I am nearly decided on Temple, the next I am creeping back toward Midwestern. Stressful decision to make, but I'll take this stress over the stress I had last year from no news, any time!
