What are some things people are taking or suggest taking for lunch or snacks to keep energized? And can we take coffee into the testing area or only on breaks? I want to pre-make and prepack my food so I was curious what some were doing.

I'm bringing normal food I eat everyday. Sandwich, diet coke, carrots and ranch. Call me superstitious but I'm not bringing "brain food" simply because I want to keep EVERYTHING the same

We can't bring coffee with us into the testing area, but I don't know if you would still want it when it gets cold by the time you take break.

I was just going to bring a peanut butter sandwich, a naked juice and some dark chocolate.

I plan on bringing things I like to snack on (fruit, almonds, string cheese) and probably a PBJ for lunch. I usually eat lunchmeat sandwiches, but I have this irrational fear of my lunchmeat going bad and getting food poisoning during the MCAT. :wideyed:

As for coffee, I'm going to bring one of those bottled Starbucks things that's supposed to be cold. Any suggestions on what kind to get? I usually just drink coffee with a splash of creamer.

Wondering the same thing, anybody have any ideas for gluten free food? I'm bringing bananas and kind bars for snacks but I need a lunch. It sucks not being able to just bring a sandwich.

Was thinking of doing this as well, though I don't usually drink coffee. If we're thinking of the same thing you're talking about the frappucinos and the only difference between them is flavors (obviously up to you). Edit: actually I think they have these things called "double shots" which obviously by the name provide more caffeine. I don't know if you'd be into that.

Others have recommended not to eat too heavy with the argument that their brain works better in a slightly starved state. One can immediately see the evolutionary justification, but I have no idea if it really is a universal thing. However, I've found this to more or less be the case for myself.

I think a good rule of thumb would be to bring whatever makes you feel most comfortable that simultaneously isn't too filling. I'd start out eating a complex carb (bagel, oats, toast, cereal, etc.) in the beginning and use glucose in the home stretch (fruit/chocolate), with protein throughout (hard-boiled eggs, light amount of pb, tuna n' crackers, bars...sushi would be f*cking awesome if you can get it).

Haha, funny thing is that I can get sushi around here! The only difference is that I would have to get it the day before, and the day after sushi is not always the best.

True. The rice gets sort of hard. That completely defeats the purpose. Back to the drawing board....

...Sweetened rice cakes.

Anything that won't make me take a massive deuce

THIS. Based on experience, just don't risk drinking/eating anything dairy heavy... I've always wondered how much better my SAT score would've been if I didn't drink that glass of milk in the morning. +pity+

i'm worried about 1) what nonperishable food/drinks would seem appetizing, since i'm assuming there won't be a fridge and 2) the right balance of caffeine. dont want to be thinking about peeing the whole time! learned the hard way from finals :boom:

I decided to bring some "brain food" for my test on January, but I ended up not eating any of it.
Too much adrenaline to be hungry.
