Step I Test Tuesday, Uworld Monday?
Started by jackets5
I'm a pretty strong proponent of 100% day off the day before the test.. Now I don't have the proof to back it up on step I but it worked out pretty well for the MCAT..
think about it.. you spent months preparing, whats one more day going to do? its not going to change your score, do low stress relaxing things for the day, dont do more studying, if you can get the test out of your mind, going to bed might be easier too.
I saved the last 4 episodes of lost for my day before.. thats how I plan to spend the day.

good point, think i will just do what Taus has laid out for the day before the exam.
I take the test tuesday too.🙂
I don't ascribe to the take the day off policy, but that's just me, do it if it works for ya.
For me its gonna be some neuro/CT images, FA review plus UW biostats questions repeat, leftover RR margins and UW self made notes.
Might sound daunting but I have lil problem falling asleep, so Im gonna work hard and be up early so that I can crash on a decent bed time.😳
Good luck man!

take it offfff.. i looked forward to the day before step 1 almost more than test day.. went surfing all day and had the best session I've had in a long time.. then went and bought some random stuff, made a huge feastly dinner, went skating around my apt complex, hit up the hot tub afterwards and slept like a baby.
I also don't ascribe to the take the day off policy.
People like to equate it "you don't run a 5k before a marathon", but that doesn't make any sense. All your life you've been studying the day before your test. I'm sure everyone studies before practice tests, so why change now?

However, you don't take the day off before a marathon. Anyone who takes the day off before a marathon doesn't expect to run very fast. The day before a big bike race, I used to do 1-1.5 hours on the bike with some tempo and a couple sprints. I had a similar but slightly less intense pre-Ironman routine.
Similarly, on Tuesday before my Wednesday test I'll be hitting ~150 UWorld questions (2nd pass). I only have 262 questions left, so I'll be doing 3-4 x 48 on Monday, and the rest on Tuesday. I'll also probably redo a few Q's I missed. On top of that, I'll be going over a few biostats definitions, pharm, and either musculoskeletal or neurology.
For some people it's hard to manage the nerves, so relaxing is good. For me, forcing myself to relax would be harder and more nerve wracking than just doing some light studying of problem areas.
so goes the mentality of SDN..
I think youre a bit insane if you think that one more day is going to make a difference.. I'd rather be relaxed and ready to go than anxiously being like omg, I dont remember this one tiny detail and then panicking the day before the test.

I think it's a bit short-sighted to say what people prefer is wrong or right. People will have preferences, some people panic and studying calms them, and some people can be comfortable with what they know the day before. If he's even asking this question in the first place, I figure he's the kind of guy that needs the former, otherwise it would be a null issue.
I mean I'm not going to be studying until right before I go to bed the night before Step 1... But I will study that day, last minute cram facts. I've noticed that there is always something I just recently read ends up showing up on my practice test. I would have missed these otherwise. Ie. cryptosporidium parvum is partially acid fast.

that is not what I meant at all but i'll drop it here. i dont mean to offend anyone or get into an argument, we're all under enough stress as it is.

Not everyone freaks out.
