Howdy y'all! I am an incoming first year veterinary student at TAMU. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the application process. I'm more than happy to help! :)

Note:
  1. The GRE is not required this application cycle. I've heard that it *may* be required in future cycles however.
  2. The supplemental application fee can now be paid online! I'm unsure if they are still accepting checks, but if you are paying by check, PLEASE send your check with some sort of tracking and/or delivery confirmation.
  3. Please note the application deadline this year (September 15th) differs from past years (October 1st).

@blueheeler do you happen to know who to contact about a file review and if they are doing them currently? I am re-applying and would love some feedback from this previous cycle!

I'm so glad they've joined the modern age and are letting people pay the supplemental application fee online! The five (!!!) weeks between mailing the check and A&M actually depositing the darn thing were unreasonably stressful.

It's about time haha. I didn't like that they didn't send any sort of confirmation once the check was received either.

Anybody know how long it takes for your TMDSAS ID to be verified on the supplemental application? Or also for the supplemental how long it takes for payment to be processed and the big orange exclamation mark to go away?

I just got verified on the supplemental application and my payment processed a couple of days ago and I submitted my application around 2 weeks ago! It should be verified for you soon, I believe.

Hey all!I have reached out to TAMU but I haven't gotten a response so before I pay the fee for my application, I figured it would be best to try here!

I am a non-traditional student. I had a traumatic childhood, which was followed by years of substance abuse. My first attempt in college destroyed my GPA. 10 years later and a ton of veterinary experience, I know this is what I want to do. My cum GPA does not meet the minimum requirements but my GPA over the past two years does.

I am well aware this is a long shot for all schools and that some are more understanding than others in regards to your past but I wanted to know if anyone had a similar story to mine and was offered acceptance to TAMU.

I'm aware that if I am unsuccessful this round I will have to continue to take classes to continue to try and bring my GPA up.

So even though mine says it hasn't been paid (even though I have the receipt), it just hasn't been processed. I've been stressing for weeks. :dead:

K, I might be freaking out a little. I just submitted my application and it is showing my GPA in the toilet. I've calculated it a hundred times and checked over all the entered coursework. Please tell me there's some explanation and I didn't just submit an application with a God awful GPA?

Yeah, it was definitely very stressful for me as well, haha. But, it will be processed soon once your TMDSAS application has been verified! :)

I attended an application workshop hosted by TAMU CVM way back in May 2019. There was another re-applicant who was in a similar situation as yourself (meeting some gpa requirements, but not all). The admissions committee told them they will not look at your application if you don’t meet the minimum GPA requirements for all three categories. :(

I’m so sorry to hear that. :( TMDSAS factors in every grade into their cumulative GPA calculation (even grades for repeated courses). They do not “replace grades.” If you attended multiple colleges, your cumulative GPAs are combined to form one single cumulative GPA. There’s also the possibility that TMDSAS miscalculated your GPA in which case you’d have to reach out to them. I hope that answers your question.

I still can't find the reason why there is such a large discrepancy between my transcripts and what they've calculated, I reached out to them and am waiting to hear back. Super disappointed, but praying for the best. I appreciate the feedback <3

Are you a resident of Texas? If your bad grades were 10 or more years ago and you're a Texas resident, there's always the Academic Fresh Start option. Good news: it will "erase" all grades that are more than 10 years old, so only the more recent ones will count. Bad news: it will also erase any credits more than 10 years old. (That doesn't really matter in terms of vet school prereqs, since those need to be within the last 10 years anyway, but it did mean I had to jump through some other rather ridiculous hoops such as redoing my math sequence.)

If this might be an option for you, I'd be happy to try to help you with the process. Obviously, it won't change things for this year, but it may substantially change your application if you'd like to try again for the next cycle. Just something to think about.

My application was transmitted 9/17 and in the supplemental it still says my TMDSAS ID is linked but not verified & I know several people who submitted their apps a couple days after me and their supplemental already says verified. Anyone else still NOT saying verified?
I called admissions office and they said not to worry but I can’t do that

Mine currently, but I am also in the process of proving residency. (husband is and has been a resident his whole life) I moved here 2 years ago with him. So they said that's why it's held up. But I have a friend who submitted on the deadline and it is verified too. I've been worried the whole time.

Mine also says linked but not verified and that I haven't paid the supplemental fee but I did. My TMDSAS was transmitted to TAMU last week so hopefully they get everything updated soon!

I spoke to someone in admissions a couple weeks ago because they had said they didn’t have my supplemental application or fee (which I had already submitted). Apparently if you applied previously they’ve been having an issue where it is linking to your past application instead of current but you can call them & let them know & they sort it out very quickly. And a human being actually answers the phone!

They absolutely do! Someone asked at an open house and an admissions team member responded that AP credits are fine and for prereqs too

Anyone heard anything about interview invites/dates?

For what it's worth, interview invites went out December 10th last year. Not sure what Covid is doing to the process, but I suspect that would be more likely to have an impact on the actual interviews and not the notification. Don't quote me on that, though! It's a strange year.

So I was just told but a student ambassador from the class of 2024 that MMI's will be over zoom and 350 out of the 925 that applied will get an interview. They have also increased the class size to 180!

I was just about to post this haha. It's a record-breaking number of applicants. I wonder if getting rid of the GRE requirement had a role in this?

That or the fact that everyone had a lot of time to sit at home and work through the TMDSAS application.

Any idea what the OOS to IS ratio is? And if the 925 is qualified applicants or total applications received?

There are usually only about 10 OOS seats per class I believe

Right, I meant the ratio of OOS applicants to IS out of that 925. Where the applicants are from indicates which seats they’re competing for. Thank you though!

OH! I'm dumb lol. I don't think they'll release that info any time soon tbh. They haven't released the admissions stats (OOS/IS ratio etc.) for my class or the class before mine.

Anyone else a little discouraged now that they’ve cancelled interviews?
A little. This whole application cycle is kind of that way - my gre was really strong and I’m concerned not having that considered will knock me out of the running. I had an interview last year and until everything with covid I was pretty comfortable reapplying. Now I’m just not sure at all.

A little off topic, who here has applied to Tech? I’ve tied myself in a know trying to figure out how they’ll evaluate everyone. I can start a separate thread if that’s more appropriate

Was this sent out in an email? I didn't receive anything so I'm a little nervous
Yes, from Yolanda Birkman in the admissions office. I received the email just after 5:00 this afternoon. Basically bc of fairness and safety they were canceled, and to expect a decision early January

Yea I'm wondering what does this mean for the admissions formula? Where will they reallocate the 25% of points that would have gone to the interviews?

I applied to Tech as well. Honestly I think it would be a good idea to start a new thread for Tech (surprised one hasn't been created yet).
When you create it, send me the link so I can join as well!

That's an interesting question, especially given that they're already accommodating the lack of GRE scores.

Was weighing the last 45 new this year, or just a more significant portion of the equation since they kicked the GRE?

It's not new. The last 45 GPA was evaluated last year when I applied. I think it was weighed the same as the other GPAs, but I can't remember much tbh.

Hi everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I'm starting to get very pumped and anxious. Secretly hoping they will announce decisions by new years. 🤞

Does anyone know how they factor in a graduate GPA?
It just becomes a part of your "last 45 credit hour GPA" and combined with your undergrad GPA for overall GPA and Science GPAs.

(Asked that question myself at a vet school open house a couple years back while I was completing my Masters here at A&M)

No interviews this cycle at all... email I received beginning of December said so. I'm concerned because I think of myself as a strong interviewer and highly sociable so I feel like looking at my academics I may be at a disadvantage. Plus the CASPer went well for me for other schools so I was hoping my prep would carry over to MMI's with some practice and mock interviewing.

Oh well. Best of luck to you all :)

I know interviews were cancelled but I just checked my portal and it has a new box that looks like this. Do y'all have it too?
