Hey Guys,

I know that for the entering class of 2012 for all 3 Texas Dental schools require statistics. However, does anyone know if they will accept statistics taught by the psychology department, or does it need to be taught by the Math department. I could not find it on their websites. My college has both a math stats and a psychology stats.

Answer: "The Statistics course should be taught in a Math or Statistics Department.
Individual dental schools may consider statistics courses taught in other departments on an individual basis with appropriate documentation from faculty."

Question: Do Texan dental schools accept AP Statistics credit even though it did not apply to my degree?

Did you ever find out if your stats class qualified??

I graduated in 2010 and my advisors had always been telling me calculus. I just found out requirements are now statistics.
I took a Business Stats course in 09 but I don't know if this means I have to go back to school. I would hope I would be grandfathered in.

Please let me know what you found out if you ended up calling. Thanks!!

Baylors website said as of a year ago that they would require STATS for the 2012 cycle. No such thing as "getting grandfathered in" when it comes to prereqs.

Yes I have the same question. There are two statistics offered at my school:
1. Intro to probability and statistics.
2. Statistics for sciences.
Both are held by Maths but for the second one the pre-req is calculus-II which is not a requirement for dental school. I am confused as to which one to take. Taking the second one means have to go back and takes Maths again.
Any comments please.
Thanks

I'm from Texas and you need the science stat, according to Baylor. I'm pretty sure the other schools are the same but don't quote me on that. Call the schools for a definite answer.

Call them for the right answer.

Will Texas dental schools take Calculus 1 in place of Statistics 1?

I am looking at enrolling as a non-traditional student. All the dental school requirements must be important; but, I would like to concentrate on the other main prerequisite classes tested on the DAT.

seria, I do not believe so. you must take the statistics course. but you can call them to make sure.

I'm from Texas, and graduated from A&M.

Your stat needs to be taught by the Math department (or stat department). I was a psychology major and took the psyc stat but that didn't count.

Stats for all three schools should be taken from either Math and Science Department. I called UTSD and they said both Intro to Stats or Stats for Science will fullfill the requirements as long as they are from Math/Science Departments.

Thank you for the input, xtra333.

How difficult is Statistics compared to Calculus I?

I thought Stats is easier than Calculus I, but that is just me. Also, the difficulty depends on the professor you have.
