I also had a 29 with a 3.7 GPA...interview for the 10th. I don't think it's based on numbers and it has nothing to do with being on the waitlist of the last cycle. When I called about how the interview affected my chances of getting off the waitlist I was told that they don't have enough time to take the waitlist into considersation when sending out interview invites. So it wasn't considered at all...Diana you will get your interview, don't worry.

apparently the combination works out for you.

I have a 3.34 (3.26 ugrad)/31 and haven't heard anything. maybe they prefer GPA over MCAT.

I also had my application sent on the first day it was available. What would it be if it wasn't numbers? Random chance? ECs? PS?

I seriously doubt anyone is on the actual "waitlist" at this point - it's very early, and I think the UTMB interview invites that have been sent out so far are based on numbers. Because they sent me the interview invite just 6 days after they got my app. That feels to me like they just ran it through a computer program. So no worries, I'm sure LOTS more interviews are going to go out, especially when they start looking at PS, LORs, ECs, etc.

I'm on the CURRENT waitlist for the class that starts this fall. 😉 I'm a re-app. I interviewed with UTMB last cycle...hence my concern as to why I haven't received "another" interview. Sorry if that was confusing, I forget we have a lot of new people to the forum!
 
that makes a lot more sense. i was just really confused. i guess we should have our own thread for 2008ers =p.

guess what? we both worked in Dr. Langlois' lab. did you do ERP studies with the babies?

LOL, don't worry...let me just make this clear to everyone right now so no one gets confused...😉 I'm a re-app!!! Haha, just check the mdapps and it will allll make sense. 😀 And yes, I worked in the Langlois lab as well! Yay baby studies!!

Awesome job on your MCAT. What was your GPA though? As long as it isn't below a 3.2, this should make a lot us who have not heard from UTMB feel at ease.

No, but I figure that below a 3.2 could hamper your interview chances despite a 38 MCAT. Hell, my 3.4 gpa might. Who knows... I don't agree with it at all. To me, a high GPA says one thing, you decided to become a doctor as a freshman. I screwed around too much because I had no goals. I knew little of medicine and didn't know any doctors. Adcoms don't seem to understand this sort of thing.

Then this should make you very happy. I'm absolutely certain that it's not solely stat-driven. 37, 3.9, verified on the 20th, no invite.

Lol, are you a texas resident? I guess there are a lot of variables to consider. Bottom line, no one should care if they don't have an interview yet.

we wouldn't be pre-meds if we weren't paranoid about getting rejected.

I don't know if any other group of people cares as much about what other people think about them.

Thanks. Its a 3.39 as far as TMDSAS goes. I thought I had a really strong PS this year too...who knows. :S

Its still early in the game tho!
 
I'm not trying to sound defeatist or alarmist, but I've got to think if such a cutoff exists it won't likely affect you folks with 30+ MCATs. It's folks like me with very marginal MCAT scores who should be paranoid. My expectations are hopeful but also realistic.
 
Is there a TMDSAS verification thread? They recieved my certification page on July 2nd..am I looking at the beginning of August for verification?

Sure. 3.39 gpa. 38O MCAT (B14, P13, V11), verified June 20th and invited to Tech. 😀 Still holding my breath for UTMB tho...🙁
 
I got an interview at UTMB on 8/10. My numbers are 3.88 (overall), 3.95 (bcpm) and I got a 33M (12bs, 9v, 12ps).
 
I got an invite from Tech also, yipeeeeee. Numbers are in my mdapps profile

Armybound, I notice you are from Baylor as well and I just wanted to say that I haven't received a Tech invite either, so don't feel too bad. It might have to do with the LORs, I'm not sure - just a guess. Those of you with Tech invites, do you already have your LORs in?

With a TCOM and Tech invite, I'm waiting for UTMB..🙁

I heard the first round of interview invites for UTMB was on 7/3. When
will the next one be? I thought it was today (Wed, 7/11) but didn't see anyone responding on this forum with an invite. Care to comment on this subject, anyone?

You're right, the first round of invites appeared to be last Tuesday, but I saw two posting that they were invited this Tuesday, not Wednesday. My wild speculation is that the UTMB adcom meets every Tuesday, so the next time you'll hear news is 7/13.
 
Anyone know of a decent place to stay near TCOM? I'll be bringing the wife and also want to see some of Ft. Worth. I know nothing of this town. I've heard it's nice overall. If I have a shot at this school, I'm going to need to show it off to the better half. Any recommendations for lodging, restaurants, or other notable sites would be appreciated.

when is your interview? i have one on the 31st and i live in fort worth. let me know what you are looking for and maybe i can point you in the right direction.

ive heard that Joe. T. Garcias (restaurant) has fabulous mexican food. I've never been so thats just hear say.... hopefully i will get an interview from TCOM to have an excuse to check it out myself!!

Uncle Julio's on camp bowie and I30, also Chimy's on camp bowie and foch. Chimy's has great tacos and margaritas

My interview is Friday the 27th. We'll be getting into town the night before. I understand TCOM is in a pretty nice part of town so I'm looking forward to seeing the area.

Yeah, TCOM is in a nice part of town...then again, most parts of Fort Worth are nice (I am biased though, I grew up and am living there). I definitely second Uncle Julio's as a restaurant choice, though it is a little more on the pricey side (definitely worth it).
