I'm curious, what percentage of UTMB interviewees are offered admission? I'm guessing the numbers aren't published anywhere, but educated guesses would be great.

I don't have the number on hand, but typically you can take the class size and multiply that by 2. Then divide that by the total interviewed.

UTMB interviewed 974 people, with 229 matriculating. I'm guessing maybe 100-200 more offers were given but definitely not all at the same time. More competitive schools initially offer less seats because they cannot overfill their class. I'm also not sure if the number of offers a school quotes includes waitlists or not.

Most of the basic info is in the MSAR btw.

Ok...this is a new term for me so go easy. MSAR = Medical School Admission Record? Could you point me to where I could find these stats for the different Texas schools? Thanks.
 
By the way, I know three current medical students at UTMB. Two of them got in with a 23 (I kid you not!) and around a 3.5 gpa. The other I know had a 29, and I am not sure what the gpa was. So, it can't be just the #'s.

Medical School Admissions Requirements. It's a book published by the AAMC that gives the stats for all the US medical schools. For each school, it lists how many matriculants broken down by ethnicity, average and range of MCAT, average and range of GPA, % of matriculants with research, volunteer, and clinical experience, a blurb about the school, average indebtness, etc. I've got the 2007-08 edition, it's a year old, but if nobody else is willing to post stats from the 08-09 version I'd be happy to PM you with them.

Medical School Admission Requirements. I've got the 2008-2009 version of the MSAR if anyone needs info from it. Not much different from the previous version when I took a look at it.

Also, here's a link to a post that has numbers for all the Texas schools (except Baylor). The most important thing you'll learn compared to final averages is that a lot of waitlist movement happens after match day to give lower averages.

I'm almost finished rereading book 5 - there's so much they left out of the movie, and it's been a long time since I read 5 or 6. Guess I'll spend all day tomorrow rereading Book 6. I get dibs on 7 in my house since Sunday's my birthday!:hardy:

A lot of people told me that the movie was nothing like the book, but I actually think they did a very good job in making everything just like the book, with a few minor differences because of time constraints (the book is, after all, ~800 pages long).

I especially think the choices of Luna Lovegood and Dolores Umbridge were quite appropriate for the roles. Kreacher was nothing like I imagined, though, for some reason I thought he would look a little more like dobby, just ugglier and older.

I'll second that...both Luna and Umbridge were perfect! I'm not sure what I expected Luna to be like...but it sure seemed like Evanna Lynch nailed her character. I've heard a lot of criticism regarding the acting potentials of the original 3...but I think they're doing quite well.

Lol, this is so totally off topic...but it's keeping me distracted! :laugh:
 
A&M has finally removed the notice that they sent out a round of invites "this morning," and that they sent them out twice.

Did anyone ever get anything from A&M? Has anyone asked them? Could that be the 7/19 LMFU?

Yup, I just finished re-reading HP 6 two days ago. Now, i'm really READY for HP 7. Can't wait!! I just hope that HP7 over exceeds my expectations, otherwise it won't be as fun. 🙄

my LMFU was changed to 7/19, but i only applied to utsw, uth, utmb, uthscsa (so i guess maybe uth, utsw?). man, i need to stay off of sdn, this is making me neurotic!!! 🙂

mine changed to 19th, but they just got my new mcat score, so its prolly just that.

I have no new MCAT - was reasonably happy enough with my score from last August to say "nope, not going to do it again if I don't have to". (I do wish I'd studied for it, though...long story.)

Harry is most definitely not going to die. I don't hold out much hope for any of the Weasleys, though.

true,some get in with low 20's but were they in any early matriculation program????(JAMP,MSEMP.......) cuz that helps also

if you check your TMDSAS status and click on Applicant Profile, you'll see last master file update at the top. rumor has it changes often coincide with interview invites and acceptances. no one can prove anything.

i heard from an insider at UTMB today that my stats are pretty good and I shouldn't have a problem getting an interview, but perhaps because my LORs aren't in i haven't been reviewed yet. They hadn't come across my app yet, basically. They said even if UTMB says they won't wait for evals, chances are the committee likes to have everything. I felt a little positive with that, though not too much because the letters are out of my hand right now, I can just bug my school a lot and hopefully one of these days they'll actually send it off!

Well, at least for now, it's been just about proven that UTMB will interview extremely competitive applicants within a week of a person's application being processed and sent to schools.

One of my friends just told me he got an interview at a med school, and I was able to guess which school (UTMB), what date (8/24), and when he got the actual e-mail (this Tuesday). Needless to say, he was quite spooked. :meanie:
 
Forgot to mention...I checked my LMFU after I got the TCOM invite this morning. No change.

Does anyone else feel a bit surreal about posting invites? I mean, you work so hard for so long, and then suddenly...I'm still a bit in awe. (Of course, I'll be even more excited if they give me an acceptance! 😀 )

Yeah...and then when you have great interviews and that acceptance doesn't come...I dread that happening again this year. Hopefully my applying to several OOS schools this year will help me out. :clap:

Hey guys,

My LMFU also was changed to 7/19. I just think that it is the day TMDSAS updates everything and sends out everything. I called them today and they said that they send out everything on a Thursday...which would be 7/19.

Just my two cents...let me know what you guys think.

(My rec letters were probably sent out today thru TMDSAS to the Texas Schools, so it might just be my case where the LMFU changed to 7/19 for that...i dunno)
 
This question is a little out of place but I was just wondering, for those of you who have been granted interviews, did you guys fill out the two optional essays? I'm not sure whether I should fill those out since I feel like I've incorporated those aspects in some way into my personal statement, but then I feel really bad for not using up space on the application if it's available. Thanks for your help!
 
I filled out the diversity essay. From what I understand, it's kind of a given that you should fill that one out if possible.

I filled out both, but I had a special circumstance. From what I understand, you can get away with not filling out the first one, but you should treat the second one as a "what makes you unique" question.
 
TCOM just called me 8:30 in the morning to schedule an interview. They had spots open for August 2 and 7. verified on the june 27.
