Congrats on the interview, adammd. From one fellow reapplicant to another...BEST OF LUCK!!!!! 😀 May we both get what we've been waiting so long for. 😉

So, I talked to this girl today who said UTH and Baylor already sent out interview invites. I think she was a re-applicant, but I was like what?? I didn't even think they started lookin at our apps until august 1st (for UT-H)..i dont know about baylor.

Do you guys think she was straight up lyin or she really did hear bak?

Definately not UT-H. I was in the admissions office last week and they stated they have not even began reviewing applications. They have several boxes awaiting, and they should start reviewing early August. She must have false information

Diana: thanks for sending me the PS. Its really good and it helped me understand how to address philosophy. Did you ever get a job at Baylor or UT-H as a research tech? What about HHH, I applied for a volunteer job in January and they still don't have enough room. It seems like they only accept 8 or so volunteers a semester. Were you able to volunteer there?

For those of you that have interviewed in SA, I'm wondering if it would be easy for me to fly in and then find transportation to the school, to my student host's, etc. Anyone have any experience with that?

I'm driving down there for a wedding the week before my interview and don't want to do the drive twice and by myself for the interview. I've found a flight out of Love Field for $112 and just really want to do it to save time, inconvenience of driving. Plus, if I stay with a student host, the cost won't be that much more.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!!

You'll just need to rent a car and you should be fine. I've gotten good rates on priceline and orbitz. Getting around SA is easy.

I am new to posting, but have been reading many of the threads trying to figure out all of this med school madness. My husband is applying through TMDSAS for 2008. He took his MCAT in May and received a 27L: 10PS, 6VR, 11BS. He is retaking on Aug 6th, so his results are to be back Sept 5th. He has completed his application, but has not sent out or requested any seondaries. He has received one interview to UTMB. My question is.. because he is retaking to improve his MCAT scores, should he send out the secondaries and do the Texas med schools review applications twice? He did put on his application that he was retaking. PLEASE HELP! 😳

Hey there. Sounds like your husband is in a similar boat to me (27T here). Tell him to get his secondaries ASAP, regardless of his MCATs. 27 isn't stellar, but it can get you an interview if other parts of the application are very strong. Early is very important. Just my 2 cents.

Does anybody know a physician in Austin TX that I can shadow?

ay, okay, one last LMFU question. did everybody that had an LMFU of 7/19 get a UTHSCSA invite?

Not a problem, glad it helped! 🙂 And no, I've applied to a ton of tech jobs at Baylor, UTH, and MDAnderson. I got REALLY close to getting a job at UTH, but the guy couldn't give it to me...needed someone who would be around for more than a year. 🙁 It's been really frustrating. I have a meeting with the volunteer coordinator at HHH soon. Hopefully some volunteer spots will open up.

Thanks! I hope you the best as well. Hopefully the re-applicant thing will show adcoms how seriously commited we are. BTW, when's your UTSA interview?

Does anybody know a physician in Austin TX that I can shadow?

There are plenty of doctors in Austin to shadow. Why don't you narrow it down to a speciality you're interested in. Then just start calling offices and see if anyone would allow you to visit. It's really not hard at all.

ay, okay, one last LMFU question. did everybody that had an LMFU of 7/19 get a UTHSCSA invite?

I had a 7/19 update and a tuhscsa invite a week before that... but nothing since the 7/19 update

Ok folks. Back from a great experience at TCOM. You folks heading down there over the next few months should enjoy it. It's very laid back, but they seem serious about their students' education. This is a solid program particularly for folks like me who are leaning toward family medicine. I posted feedback in the interview section, but if you have specific questions (that I can answer) I'll be happy to answer by PM.

Here's to the first of many interviews for all of us. (He said rasing his beer) :luck:

Hi yall- I'm another reapplicant, reading for a while but never posted. Hopefully this will be the year for all of us!

I had an LMFU of 7/20 as well... and got the UTHSCSA invite on 7/28 for 8/27. Processed 7/4, 3.57, 31. I interviewed there exactly 3 months later last year... really hope the earlier interview will be luckier!

Best of luck to everyone!

hey guys, just for the record, i got an A&M invite (my first one) for 8/9 a couple of days ago. 3.74 and 28P. good luck to everyone!!! any ideas/inputs/suggestions for the A&M interview?

seriously, no one wants to help with my san antonio transportation question?

i stayed at country hearth inn right across the street from the school. they even provide a shuttle for you....and about your driving question, if your close enough id drive.

Nice to meet you! 😀 I like hearing from all of these reapplicants...I don't feel so alone now!

I just got an interview invite from A&M for the 9th, and I have UTMB in Galveston on the 10th. Is it suicide to do both back-to-back like that?

I RSVPd that I'd rather come on the 2nd - like in 3 days. Don't know if that will fly, but I have a deal with my daughter on the 16th, and classes start the 22nd, so the 23rd would be my first day of class for me.

excited panic is starting to set in!!😱😱😱

Ok so is there anyone out there that had an LMFU of 7/19 and has NOT recieved a letter from UTHSCSA besides me?? Because I feel fairly certain that particular date for LMFU is corelated to the SA invite...

You sure it couldn't be something else that happened with your application? Also, there's still the LFMU from last friday (7/27) that we have no clue about...

If they say frog...jump. I would not reschedule unless there is no way you can make it. It'd be hectic but you could knock'em out quick. Good luck.

Thanks!! I couldn't reschedule before school starts, so I'm going to do them back-to-back! I'm off to buy another white blouse to go with the suit!!🙂

Are you from the Houston area? That would be pretty easy. I could see it being tough if you lived somewhere else. I might suggest getting a hotel north of Houston as a middle point between the two Uni's.

i'm in the same boat as you. my letters were sent in after, so i know it's not b/c of that. who knows. it's not worth our time worry about LMFU's...we'll hear from schools when we hear from them.

No, I'm in San Antonio. I have a friend to stay with in Galveston, but nothing lined up for CS yet.

If anyone is interested in sharing two days of driving and stress from San Antonio to CS to Temple to Galveston, PM me!

What kind of info is in an interview invite anyway? What resources do they give for people who have to fly around everywhere (I don't have a car).

in the UTMB packet, they gave us a discount code to use at hotels, people to contact if you want to stay with a student, i think a general timeline for interview day, map of the school, and info about the social-thingy the night before the interview. not many resources for students that have to fly 🙁 but you could try getting a student discount with individual airline companies when making flight reservations.

Ah, that's cool. My parents and I have to plan ahead on costs of traveling around to my interviews and it's really hard since I don't have my own transportation.

Anyone have ideas on how to get from Austin to Galveston? I'm pretty sure that'll be my first interview but I'm not really sure how I should go about planning flights and stuff. Thanks!

fly into houston, rent a car and drive to galveston. that's what i'm doing, at least.

Eh... that requires a credit card, car insurance, and reliable place to park, none of which I have at the moment.

There's no domestic airport in Galveston, so you can't fly in directly. You can fly into Hobby and get a cab (which I believe will be nice and expensive) or see if anybody is willing to drive you down for the day. Either way, you can't avoid H-town.

How do you mean? They gave us parking instructions for UTMB.

Also, instead of flying into Houston, you could just drive all the way from Austin. I'm pretty sure that would be cheaper and less hassle.

Aha, I missed a post earlier where you said you didn't have a car. When is your interview?

I don't have an interview yet, but I'm just thinking ahead. My parents don't live in Texas, so the problem multiplies!

Transportation to Galveston is really the only issue I have as other Texas schools have an airport located in the same city.

My parents are definitely helping out financially, but I'd like to save money if possible. Still have to pay tuition for 1 last year! 😀

Quite the problem. If it was 8/17, I was going to offer you a ride. So if you can't rent a car in Houston, I thought maybe bus? And it seems like a bus does travel between Houston and Galveston:

Greyhound (PHONE: 800/231-2222) provides service from U.S. destinations to Houston. Kerrville Bus Company (PHONE: 409/765-7731) provides connecting bus service to Galveston. Buses arrive at and depart from Kerrville Bus Station (714 25th St., Galveston).

So maybe you could call that bus company - Kerrville - and see what you can do from there.

maybe have one of your parents meet you in houston?

I believe you should receive a packet in the mail once you confirm. I haven't received mine yet but thats what the e-mail said.

I was just wonderin' how long after everything was received at texas tech, did it take for ya'll to receive invites from them?

My stuff just got listed as received today (everything) and I was wondering when to expect an interview invite...

THanks =)

I confirmed for the 23rd and have not received the second letter as well. I guess we shouldnt be worried just yet then🙂

I have not yet received a single interview invite and I am getting nervous. My TMDSAS application was processed 6/20. Do you think UTMB was waiting for my newest MCAT scores? They just recently got them. (GPa: 3.9, 1st MCAT: 30M, 2nd MCAT that they just got: 33R). Do you think I should ask whether my application has been read my the committee yet? Do you think I got rejected by UTMB?

Why is everyone so hellbent over texas? I mean I understand having pride in where you're from, but jesus christ. In every health forum here there's like 100 pages on threads that talk about texas. I swear if I didn't know any better I'd think you all were your own country! 👎

Oh by the way, CALIFORNIA > TEXAS!
