To some extent that is true, but I'm wondering if the new PBL at UTMB and Step 1 prep is just more effective than that at UTH? Both schools have students with about the same GPA and MCAT. Probably a similar composite of work ethics too. So, why would there be this discrepancy. I wish UTH would just release the Step 1 pass rate results for the past 5 years. UTMB showed the past 3 or 4 during the presentation on interview day.

(Not whining...this is a tremendous choice to have. I feel extremely blessed, and these acceptances have humbled me.)

i have the same problem but for me its utmb vs. a&m... even though i agree that its not teh school, but the student... utmb must be doing SOMETHING right to have the 2nd highest board scores in texas, when they get students with lower mcat/gpa right off the bat when compared to utsw.

It is highly commendable that UTMB has the 2nd highest board scores in Texas, but how many years have they done that? One thing to consider with this past year's Step 1 scores is that they could be a random event. If UTMB has ranked 2nd in scores over the past 4-5 years, then I would say that going to UTMB would give someone the upperhand in preparation for the Step 1. I just wouldn't base my decision to go to a school on the Step 1 scores from a single year.

where do i find reliable step 1 stats for schools?

Call and ask them. This is an important decision for both the schools and the students. The schools in making their decisions are requiring MCAT's, LOR's, transcripts, etc.... (basically looking up your rear-end with a flashlight). What would be wrong with students requesting information from schools, so they can make an informed decision as well.

As nerdy as this might sound, I actually had a chart going... :laugh:

I went back to my hometown for a wedding this weekend and two of my friends (one from each city) got ahold of my chart and added themselves into the pro column. I was cracking up.

are schools still sending out acceptances? or did they just do that one round of the 15th so far?

I may be wrong, but I am guessing that the next wave of acceptances will come out after the schools receive notification of the number of the acceptances/rejections of their offers.

well i think most schools are requiring us to make our decision by december 31st, even though tmdsas said we have until jan 15th

For UT-H we have to notify them if we are going to accept their acceptance by Dec. 1. Also, I would imagine that the schools did not send out all of their pre-match acceptances on the 15 and 16 alone.

I am a bit confused about the pre-match offers. If we accept the pre-match, are we then obligated to go there, or is it to notify schools that you are considering attending??

You are just considering attending (at least for the Dec. 1st deadline imposed by UT-H). By Dec. 31st you can only hold on to one acceptance.
 
Hey guys, I just got offered a $20,000 scholarship by UTMB! I am so freaking excited! I've never won anything in my life! (Sorry for the excessive !s.)

Anyways, it said that I had to respond in two weeks but it doesn't give any specific instructions as to how to respond. There wasn't an e-mail or a form to return. Did anyone else get this?

Sorry, I was wrong. The Dec. 1 and Jan. 15 dates are sort of confusing. But maybe this chart will help.

my tcom letter says that i must accept their acceptance by nov 31. i do'nt have my other two letters yet, so i don't know what they want. i don't think it is asking me if im considering their acceptance.

Seriously...I don't mean to obsess...I'm just curious about UT Houston's USMLE Step 1 Results...here is a link to UTMB's:

I didn't get my offer for UTMB in regular mail yet 🙁 ... did yours came this past saturday? last time i checked my paper mail was this past friday so maybe it might be sitting in my mailbox.
 
for those of you who got accepted to UTSW and got the official snail mail, did they include scholarship information like UTMB and UTH's letters? I'm not at home in Dallas to get my mail, unfortunately😳
 
I didn't get anything in the snail mail from UTMB or UTH yet! Just e-mails. Hopefully, this is a DFW thing?

Haven't gotten anything in the mail from them either and I am in Waco

Another question is whether anyone has received the official snail mail packet from UTSW? I would've expected it to be here by now, but I haven't received it yet...
 
I haven't gotten anything either... I'm about 90 minutes from UTMB and nothing...
 
I would worry, ppl, it seems that a good chunk of accepted folk haven't got their snail mail stuff. 🙂

I send in TCOM's acceptance letter before Nov. 30th. However, that does not preclude me from getting other pre-match offers. Do I understand this correctly?


I'm assuming other schools don't see your acceptances, so they will still recruit you in the pre-match process.

I understand the match process, but I'm not certain if sending in this letter is going to prevent me from getting other pre-match offers.

this is the same concern i was having.. if the pre-match goes on until dec 31 but schools are making you decide by nov 31, then how the hell can you get more offers if tmdsas only allows you to accept only one pre-match offers. i mean what happens if we get an interview somewhere else? seems really messed up!

Congrats on the scholarship...i wish i would have gotten one that big when i was accepted.

If i were you, I would call the financial aid office or the office of student affairs to respond. You should be able to easily find these numbers at www.utmb.edu

Perhaps if you give up all of your acceptances except one, someone else will do the same and thus possibly free up an extra spot for you.

My understanding is that you can accept multiple offers from schools at this point, but after dec 31, you can only hold one acceptance. You can still receive pre-match offers and interview offers from schools at this time if you already are holding an acceptance.
 
What does everyone think all this "reasonable recruiting" will include?

It seems that for now, we're only receiving simple letters from the school and not that much more information wise. I understand a couple people got scholarship offers, but I can't help but assume that it might be more of a need-based thing rather than simply an incentive to come to that school. (I hope I'm not offending anyone by saying that...I don't mean it in a bad way!)
 
If i were you, i'll pick UTMB because its just an amazing school. Good study hours, less stress, more time for fun, nice people and amazing board scores. You can't bit that.

Maybe it is need base. Oh well, money is money. It's all the same to me. 😀

I think in the past five years, from what my cousin told me, there scores are 221, 223, 225, 228 or sth.

What about UTMB's financial problems? Don't get me wrong, I would love to go to UTMB, but this is something that concerns me. I don't have a news article or anything, but i'm sure someone can fill in on the details for me.

I doubt they would give out any need based money until they get your FAFSA, which isn't even available until January.
 
Hey I got offered one from Houston and one from Galveston. (No mail received yet) I know that it is NOT need based because I show no need. I don't know why they would offer money yet....it seems early.
 
Hey guys,

I just got an email from UTMB answering some questions of mine, and they said they sent out ALL of their pre-match acceptances the first 2 days, and if you havent heard by now then you will be waiting till the match....idk if this is true for all the schools or just UTMB. So if you are sitting there with no love yet like me, might be a long wait 🙁 🙁 🙁

Hang in there. When I interviewed, A&M said that they would send out a few rounds of pre-match offers, so, at least their original intent was to not send them all out at once.
