congrats! i hope you get more interviews and i start getting some soon!
Thanks, man. So do you get to interview with TCOM on the regular timetable or do they wait until later? I ask because SMP students can't interview at Gtown until the spring; just wondering if you had a similar thing.

anyone gonna be at utmb tomorrow?

I will, but then again, i'll most probably be in class...perhaps you'll be lucky and run into me or others in the anatomy lab. Be forewarned...its hot and muggy down here. GL to all...hope the interview season is going well

we get interviews during the fall. i turned my TCOM secondary in late because i was waiting to find out if i'll be able to get my DO recommendation letter (from someone on the interview staff and adcom!). so i should be getting my interview from TCOM soon. if i get a 3.5+, i'll pretty much be guaranteed in so that's a nice feeling. the school is amazing and i could see myself staying here for med school. i just need to do more research on opportunities for surgery/neuro/cardio as a DO.

haah even though i knew i was getting an interview from TCOM, they called me today so first interview next thursday 9/21! look forward to hopefully meeting some SDNers there.

CONGRATULATIONS! And see you there! 👍 👍 😍

Congrats chaey and yourmom on your interviews!! I hope I get one soon too. Good luck, I am sure you both will do excellent!

So they are letting you guys interview in the fall, why did they change? They interviewed last years post bacs in the spring.

That's actually the first day that she suggested for me when she called, but I have an Embryology test that day. When I told I her I was in DC, she laughed cuz she thought I was in Dallas.

I just got my TCOM interview invite yesterday. Finally, one interview! For those of you who applied there, how long you received your TCOM invite did you receive your other TX invites? I know TCOM is always the first to invite, which is why I presume it was first for y'all as well.

Yeah!!! I am so happy for you. This should be the first of many....😀

Quick question, does San Antonio send emails saying that they have received your application or letters of recommendation?
Thanks

So I'm keeping my cool like everyone else who hasn't been shown much "Interview Invite" love from Texas schools. However, I just got a little more nervous.

I received an e-mail from TCOM stating they received my application from TMDSAS and invited me to complete their secondary. Well...I completed that secondary ages ago, was invited for an interview, and attended it back in mid to late August.

So, what makes me nervous is whether or not schools like UTMB, UTH, etc... have my app.

I have received one other interview, but it wasn't from a Texas school and my TMDSAS was complete back on 7/12.

Any advice? Should I call some of these schools and see what's up?

Definetely call them.

I figured out last week that Texas Tech was saying they hadn't received my committee evaluation package, even though it was sent in June. I bugged them for two days (first by e-mail, then by phone)....after two days, my file was suddenly "complete" (which I'm guessing means they found the evaluation package they hadn't received yet....). I got an interview invite two days later.

Good luck!!

Hey, if anyone went, I'd like your input on the UTMB social. How were people dressed: jeans, kakhi's, etc? Was it payed for by the school or do we pay our own bill? Was it principly food or drink, did people consume alcohol?

I just like to know what to expect. Thanks.

Wow, unbelievable. Hopefully I can call some of these schools on my lunchbreak tomorrow.

Man thats like... a nightmare. Definately call them. Good luck, man.

I was able to call UTH and UTMB today at lunch and they stated they received all of my materials back in July/Early Aug. I probably won't call on the rest of the schools seeing how I think it might be an isolated incident.

Oh well...back to the waiting game 🙂

Has anyone heard from san antonio lately, are they slower than the other schools?

I'm a bit concerned because they send out invites by snail mail and the post office here routinely misdelivers mail.

I'm so anxious. I will have interviewed at all the Texas schools by this Thursday (A&M) and it will be November 15 at the earliest before I hear anything - October if I hear from Baylor, but that's unlikely. I just graduated from college and I have a part time job. Even with all that I still feel like I'm doing nothing with my life. I can't get a long term job because I'll be leaving in December for teaching abroad. Any suggestions to lower my anxiety from now until november?

I have no practical solution for your anxiety, sorry.

You are very fortunate to be in the situation you are in and even though I don't know you, somehow I feel you know that too. I believe you are just as grateful for the interviews you've received as I am.

So all I can say is...try and enjoy the process. Step back from this forum for a bit and look at the world around you. Although I know I have worked hard to get to this point, like most of the people on here, I am still amazed to be interviewing with schools. By no means is getting into medical school my ultimate goal; becoming an excellent physician is, but you have to sit back and appreciate where you are at in life at this moment.

I try to remain cognizant of everything that is in front of me and that brings me a certain amount of joy, satisfaction, and peace. Thinking about the future and what is to come brings me even more.

for starters you suck man.

i'd suggest picking up a new hobby, take some classes for the hell of it (if that's possible). get a second part time job. do house work. millions of options.

ps. i'm in your boat minus the having graduated thing, and the fact that ut-sa never invited me to interview. i suggest going to lots of happy hours (j/k)

Don't tell him that!! he will do it!!

Earliest that it is possible to hear from Baylor (I'm assuming that you are not EDP) is Oct. 15. However, rumor has it that they accept very few people at that time, so don't freak out if you don't hear anything then.

You make one little comment and all of a sudden everyone thinks you're an alcoholic...

I submitted my TMDSAS sometime early June. I was processed some time in July and my first interview was 08/02 at Houston.

Me too, I don't know if SA found something on my app they didn't like (paranoia source), or if they just assumed that we will go somewhere else. I'm sure you will hear from them, and hopefully I will too. I'm out of school in December and I think I'm gonna find a lab rat job somewhere in the TMC if I can.

I'm in this boat too, either SA has different criteria than the others or they are taking their time sending out invites.

Hullo everyone.

I am a 4th year at UTHSC-San Antonio, going into pediatrics next year. I loved using SDN to get me through the psychosis of applying, interviewing at meds schools, MCAT crap, etc.

San Antonio was my second choice (out of 7 texas interviews) and I have been very happy here for four years now.

Anyways now I should give a lil love back to SDN. Feel free to message me with any questions about San Antonio, interviewing, applying, or med school in general and I will try my best to be honest and helpful.

take care kids, and good luck.

Diane (Picklesalt1)

i got an invite to SA to be there on the 9/2 well dont give up there is still plenty of time processed in early august

So last Thursday I interviewed at A&M and yesterday I was at San Antonio. Both were good interview days, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. My question is if you got to pick where you attended med school from the schools that interviewed you, where would you go? Both places had friendly people and opportunities for lots of experience. I don't know, I guess for me, I'm not in love with either place so I have no clue where I'd go if I was handed an acceptance today. Anyone have any opinions on their likes/dislikes of the different schools?

SA finally offered an interview 10/2, had to reschedule to 10/16.

Finally! I expected to hear from them first but so far TCOM has been the other school in Texas to offer an interview. I'm a nontraditional applicant with low GPA from undergrad but strong postbacc grades and field experience as a paramedic.

I'm looking forward to the social at the Flying Saucer. One day I'll have my name up on one of those gold plates 🙂

Good luck everyone!

waiting on texas a&m and san antonio ...COME ON!! COME ON!!

Anyone have these interviews: UT-H on 9/29, UT-SA on 10/2, and UTMB on 10/20?? I just got san antonio and galveston today, so exciting!!!! And just when I was about ready to burn down our health professions office...they FINALLY received my last two letters. Lol 😛

why do i have a feeling that I am not going to hear from UT-houston or UTMB...maybe because I was complete early June and have heard nothing from them...oh well although I really wanted these schools in Texas over some of the others

Yeah, I'm slowly coming to grip with reality that I will probably not hear from Tech. Even if I do get an interview later on, I will still feel doubtful in regards to my chances there because they waited so long.

Oh well, can't win 'em all...

Just saw this earlier and thought I would post it... kinda funny.

I am a non-texan applying to San Antonio. My TMDSAS was complete last month, but I still haven't heard anything. Is there a website to check? Do I have to just sit and wait? How long does it usually take to hear something back?

Thanks!

There's no website for San Antonio that I know of. Good luck! :luck: I know the waiting sucks!

Nope you cant check anywhere...and you will only hear from them by snail mail...good luck!

alot of you have some tied feelings about TAMU and UTHSCSA. I've gotten two emails already about the two, and a couple postings on here. here is what i wrote to one of you:

let's see. i interviewed at both schools and really liked both. i will give you positives and negatives (at least, in my subjective opinion), on both schools:

TAMU Positives
- really nice people
- small program = more one-on-one with faculty, closer relationships with classmates
- clean, new facilities in College Station and Temple (i cant tell you how crappy/old some medical school hospitals and buildings can be...i.e. UTMB is ancient...and how this can wear on you after awhile).

TAMU Negatives
- smaller program = dont meet as many people; less well-known than the UT schools.
- Temple, TX: not that much to do, fewer patient load in hospital, fewer neat "rare" patients, though you'll get a good education anyway (the zebras aren't necessarily key to good learning)
- you have to transition to a new place to live after 2nd year...college station was fun with TAMU kids around(went to undergrad there) but temple seemed dull

UTHSCSA Positives
- Our University Hospital is a county hospital and treats a huge chunk of south texas, i.e., you get to see lots of crazy stuff that you wouldnt see at a smaller hospital (people with less income tend to let problems/diseases go longer/further than they should...terrible news for them, but interesting cases for you as a student)
- bigger class = lots of personality types (i personally cant stand the typical med student anal freaks, but thats just me) 🙂
- SA: lots to do, and if you're single, there's a nursing school, a dental school, Allied Health, and UTSA undergrad to meet lots of young single people around. also my favorite thing about UTHSCSA is that it's the only major med school in texas to sit in a suburb...there's hill country to the north and downtown to the south...it's wedged in a great middle-area that is pretty safe and inexpensive.
-good mexican food

UTHSCSA Negatives:
- the Spurs craziness(born in Dallas. mavs til i die, baby)
- UH and our school buildings are getting old (although they did just build a great new student administration building with neat fake-patient facilities...really state-of-the-art)
- big class can mean you never learn some peoples' names. some people prefer the anonymity though.
- good mexican food makes you fat.

hope this helps. lemme know if you have anymore questions.
