for those who initially accepted their med school acceptance, but now want to reject, how are you going to do this. I am turning down my multiple acceptances but i have no idea how to write that letter....can i just call? That does not seem right....so a letter, but how do you phrase it? thanks for the help...oh and i am turning down UTH, UTMB, Tech, A&M for you guys!

I'm not big on how you worded that... turning it down "for us." That kind of implies we need you.

Anywho, I think you can just put it in a letter. Say something to the effect of "I appreciate your offer, but have decided to attend another school. Thank you."

If you're gutsy, you can add in "Perhaps a hefty scholarship could sway me."

I emailed utmb yesterday asking if they were going to send out any more prematch accceptances. They replied today saying "We will be making more offers later on." When I interviewed there on Nov. 17 the dean of admissions said not to worry if we didn't hear from them for a few weeks, because they were going to wait and see what the response was from their initial send-out.

You beat me to it, I was about to email them as well. 🙂 Sounds like good news to me, hopefully we'll get the best Christmas present ever!!!! (please????)

Hey, I just read your MD app. Did you interview at SW on Nov 11? What did you think of it? Dave, my tour guide, seemed enthusiastic, but I'm not sure I was sold on the place.

Yes, I did. Honestly, I ended up liking UTSW a lot more than I thought I would...but I'm not sure I would rank it 1st. Although to be QUITE honest, I'm completely torn between the UT schools and think I could be happy anywhere. 😀 Of course, I also I have another reason for wanting UTSW...my long-distance boyfriend lives in Arlington! 😉

Small world. I live in Arlington and went to college here. Does your boyfriend go to UTArlington? I'm not really into college football, but it must have been sweet being in the band at the national championship.

I just couldn't get a warm feeling from SW. Obviously, it offers superior opportunities. The students I talked to were split about the school. Case in point, when we were touring the student center, there was a guy working out who saw us and said "Don't worry, SW isn't as hardcore as people think",...to which our tour guide rolled her eyes and mumbled something like "I'm not so sure about that".

Anyway, glad someone else is still looking for that elusive acceptance. Good luck!!

Still free!!! Man last night some douchebags summoned like a hundred Strong Yetis, spiders and peons at all gate entrances to Jangon... saw many people die. I was on a horse and got mauled by a group of 7 yetis...
 
😀 Just received an email from UTSA saying that "correspondence" that had been sent to me had been returned to the office... but they had my correct address, I guess the US postal service doesn't want to give me my acceptance from them!!

So, my situation is that I am NOT going to be taking out loans, but it seems that in order to receive scholarships/grants (some need-based, others not) from some TX schools, you need to fill out the FAFSA form.

Now I thought the whole idea of FAFSA was to figure out how much you money you can get loaned to you.

How do I go about filling out this form if I'm not looking for a loan, but rather an opportunity for the schools "to assess my financial situation"?

i thought FAFSA was just a way for schools to know how much financial support you have (either through yourself, spouse, or parents/guardians)

Filling out the form online is pretty self-explanatory, just go through the steps on their website. Make sure if youre dependent on your parents that you have all their recent tax info handy... it takes awhile to do... but if you got into medschool, i think you can handle it 😉

oh and FAFSA not just about loans. its also a way of handing out grants (mostly need based) from the govt or the state.

eh im not exactly an expert...but hope that helps.

Don't most of them send you a self-addressed stamped envelope and printed letter where you just check "yes" or "no"?? All of the schools you mentioned above did.

For some reason I am having a hard time checking the "I decline" box. I'm being SELFISH.

Anyone else feel this way, or is it just me? 🙁

If you're sure you aren't going, then yeah, a bit selfish - but an understandable selfishness. 😉

You're psyched about UTSW (which is awesome) give someone else a chance to be psyched about your other schools.

(For the record I'm hanging onto both because I really can't decide yet 🙁 )

I am having a hard time...but its because I have an OOS acceptance that I think I would rather be at than A&M...but its the only Texas one that I am holding on to....I think I am going to decline anyway...I just dont see myself there

It was hard, I guess because I am paranoid and feel like having backups (I know it's stupid), but I sent my decline thingie to TAMU.

Exactly, that's why I'm having a hard time.

Except I know it's idiotic since I will have to give up all but one by January 15th, so what is the point?

But yet, it's hard. 🙁
 
Tceh sucks, kick it to the curb asap. It is going to be in the teens tonight with a 20-30 mph wind.....think of it like old man winter is coming after you with an ice chain-saw everytime you step outside. The two trees on the plains of West Texas have already lost their leaves so there is really no cover to speak of outside of the occasional cotton gin dotting the barren, wind-burned landscape. Run and run fast but be sure to promptly decline your acceptance as well:meanie: .

All kidding aside, kick the ones you are for sure not interested in to the curb and be neurotic over the others. I can see where you are coming from though, it is sort of like reaping what you sew. You have worked hard and you want to bask in the radiance of all those acceptances, if only for a couple of months.:laugh: I/some others here just want a little candle, akin to the one that pretended to hold in Sunday school while singing "This little light of mine, I'm a gonna let it shine......Ain't gonna let the devil "pffff" it out, "pfff" it out....I'm a gonna let it shine.....<trails off singing>

All I can think of is my mom making me clean my room again and saying something to the effect of "do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again." I am going to become an amateur art critic in the mean time so I can understand those passages......oh $hit, I think I just followed suit Ana. Interestingly enough, Malt-O-Meal ain't so bad the second time.😉

Seriously though - sent in Tech and TCOM decline letters today. It was hard to do - but I did it..... so good luck! :luck:

Well, the way I eat it the wheat flakes are spaced out in the super saturated sugar/butter solution like gas molecules in space, so it ain't so bad.🙂

At least Lubbock has winter the way it should be, Austin fall and winter are wack, I almost never get to use a jacket.

Yeah, I worked in Austin for a while and it was quite a change from the weather out west. I moved there during one of the worst ice storms Austin had seen in early '03, it was far worse than anything I had seen, even in Amarillo.
 
Has there been any consensus on the bio lab requirements?
I also went to UT and took just Bio205L and have already graduated. It would kind of suck to have to go back and do a lab somewhere while working. 🙁

Also, for those out there still looking for interview invites --- good news : I just got one from A+M. Although the elusice UTSW would have been better.

UTMB's offer letter states that one needs a year of biology laboratory work. I only took BIO206L at UT. I asked if the one semester lab (BIO206L and I think BIO205L too) is sufficient and UTMB responded that it is sufficient and that no further course work is required.

Go for it! Someone contacted UTMB and was told they would send out another wave, but were not sure when... I would still give them a couple of weeks though. But I would also like to know when UTH expects to send more...

I didn't know there was a disagreement? 2 credits of Bio. lab is required. Bio205L is 2 credits. Therefore, Bio205L satisfies the requirement. Same with Chem204 for the Inorganic Chem. Lab Requirement.

I think the confusion was due to UTMB's offer letter which states one year of biology laboratory work is required and BIO205L/206L is only one semester.
 
I talked to a lady in the admissions office at UTSW and she said that there would be two more rounds of pre-match admissions. Hope this puts some of you guys at ease. I know I'm still hoping that Southwestern sends me a letter!


Would writing a letter to someone at UTSW really help? I'm fairly skeptical on stuff like that.
 
Went out for a drink with my wife and barely made it home because of all the snow and wind....visibility less than 50 feet. Look out down south.

19 degrees, 25 mph winds gusts of 40 with 4 inches of snow expected.....dam blizzard by my standards. I am rethinking Tech...come on Houston😉 .

Stay safe if your out in it tomorrow.
