No, there's a method to the madness. They are probably looking at EC involvement over grades, using time of application as a general guide.

I'm currently an MSI at UTHSCSA. If anyone has any questions about the school, interview day/process, etc. please feel free to message me. I enjoy helping applicants out. 👍 Good luck everyone!
 
is there anyone who was processed in august who has received interviews from any of the UT schools? and does processed imply the letters are in?

I was processed 2 months ago without letters, so they're not necessary for getting processed.

Of course I haven't gotten a single interview, so that might have something to do with my LORs only getting received last week. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.

I'm still wondering how you got a Southwestern interview after only a week of being processed. 😵
 
So my 1st interviewer at UTHSCSA didn't have a business card or anything that day with him, so I asked him for a way to contact him (expecting an address to send a thank you) but all he gave me was his email.

Now everyone says to write hand-written thank you notes. Since he just gave me his email, should I send him just that, or try and find his correspondance which is turning out to be very difficult...

If he wanted you to mail him something I imagine he might have given you an address. Just send an email. I'm sure they all go in the trash either way.
 
True, but a M4 who was touring us and giving us advice said that on the evaluation for interviewers, there is an actual check box for "sent thank you"

Keep that in mind

At A&M they made it very clear that they were meeting the next day to talk about us. That necessitated emails to be sent SAME DAY! One of my interviewers did not have business cards with him, and as he was not regular TAMU faculty, I was unable to send him a thank you in a timely manner.🙁 Couldn't be helped, though. I Googled to no avail!
 
You could always throw a hail-mary and sent a thank you to "firstname"."lastname"@"schoolemail".edu with or without the period, or maybe just the first initial of the first name. You'll usually hit 99% of addresses that way anyway, and the worst that can happen is you're email will bounce back.

Is it just me or does it seem like there have not been many new people reporting interview invites. I was processed on 6/20, but my LOR were received like 3 weeks ago and I have only gotten one invite to TCOM. Do yall think for places like UTMB and UTHSCSA who have been giving out a ton of invites lately, that if you haven't gotten an invite yet and were completed early that you're prolly not going to get one? I'm getting really worried! By the way my stats aren't stellar but I thought they were good enough for some UT invites!

MCAT 29
Lots of EC, volunteer, and work experience. And what my advisors keep calling "really great LOR's".....

Also, does anyone know if TX med schools ask the people they want the most first and then go down the list or by processing date or how they choose to send out invites? Thanks for the help and CONGRATS to all yall with those awesome scores and interviews! Good Luck
 
It depends from school to school. Conceivably, I'd think they would ask the people they want to interview most first, using the time of submission as a general guide.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you (3.74, 28). Either of the scenarios you mentioned (best candidates first or invitation by processing date) could be in play, depending on the school (as MassTransport said). I would think you would get interviews sometime in the near future. Good luck!!!

Perhaps it's because the adcom members that would be looking at apps now spend 2-3 days out of their week reviewing applicants who have just been interviewed. Things go by slower as the interview season kicks into full gear.
 
With regards to the thank you notes, I read somewhere in a separate thread that what they do at A&M (convening within hours of the interview) is generally the case at most schools, so sending a note by email or snail mail makes no difference. I'm not 100% sure about that, but it sort of makes sense.
 
Hey guys I'm an avid reader but I never post. But anyway I just had to vent! I'm getting really depressed that I haven't heard from UTH, Southwestern, or Baylor. I've got pretty good scores (3.8 and 32)! Why cant they just tell me now!! Its seriously messing with my psyche.

Same with me, but there's a bit of method behind the madness with Baylor. Unless your app was complete (and I mean everything) before the end of July, they just haven't gotten to you yet. At least Baylor gives you a status page, the other 2 are just wait and see.

There is a status page to check and see if your letters are in. Click on Coursework updates, log in, and it will be there for you to see.

The thing is I know theyve review it because of the status page so thats driving me even more insane. Does that mean they dont want me?!

The thing is I know from the status page that theyve review it! Thats whats driving me bananas because I keep thinking that if theyve review it and they havent already invited me then they dont want me! :scared:

Just chiming in to say I'm in the same boat. (3.75, 28) good EC's, and a committee letter that my advisor stated it said that I "walked on water".
I figure I am worth at least an interview at ONE school, but things are still silent. Granted, I wasn't processed until 7/3.
Man, if this MCAT sunk me I'm going to be so sad - I was rocking the practices and fell apart on D-day
 
Whoa, what is this about sending thank you to your interviewer? Is that expected or what.... cause I haven't done that for any of mine.. :|

Our (very experienced) med advisor has repeatedly told us to do it. At a UTMB conference they were giving us tips for the interview, and told us to do it. I've heard from several others to do it.

And like I said earlier, I believe at UTHSCSA, the interviewers have a check box for whether we sent a thank you or not. That is just what a M4 told us, so I don't know if its necessarily true or he was joking...

i wonder too, but im not exactly about to question it! congrats tho on the baylor invite...baylor is awsm! i want my LORs in so badly, cuz i want baylor to process me 🙂

I think it's a well known fact that you should send a thank you. It doesn't sound absurd that they would have a check box. I doubt very many schools have that though.

I concur. Writing a thank you is just the polite thing to do. One way I heard to do it is bring two (or three if you want to write to a person who was a host type person of the day) stamped thank you cards and write them right after your interview when you have a little break. Then you can drop them in the mail on your way out or right when you'll get home. Sure they may have already discussed you by the time it gets to them, but they can always review you again later, and you never know when that interviewer could come into play in your future (residency, eventual colleague, etc.). Plus it is just nice! 🙂

Polite, yes. "Well known fact" or "requisite"...I don't really think so. The checkbox part, well, that's just paranoia.

Good luck to all who have interviews in College Station and Galveston Thursday and Friday - you will have a great time, but be very careful of the weather. My parents totalled their car on the road near College Station last year. It was wet and slippery - with TS Erin coming, you are sure to have wet roads, so give yourselves extra time and slow down!!

got the houston invite
 
I accepted an interview at UTHSCSA. Problem is that I'm having second thoughts about San Antonio. I have nothing against the school. It's just that there won't be very many opportunities for my husband to do what he wants there.

Should I just go to the interview? Or cancel the interview? How bad is that?

I've got 8 invites total with my AMCAS app already and am beginning to feel the stress. I just got the UTH invite and I would much rather go there as there are degree programs for him at Rice.

I guess I kinda already know the answer, but just wondering anyways.

No problem. I was processed 6/13 and the schools got my new mcat on 7/25. My LORs were in by late june and my LMFU hasn't changed since tmdsas updated my profile with the new mcat score.
