I'm an intern in Texas, and was thinking about getting the licensing process going since i hear it can take quite a while. I have passed all my licensing exams, and currently hold a PIT permit. I wanted to take the jurisprudence exam in the next month or two when rotations are light but you can only register for this exam after registering with the TMB for a full license (and its associated 1000+ cost). My question is this, is there a time limit once i pay the 1000 fee to complete the licensing requirements? obviously the full license can't be granted until july 1st next year, but can i register now, take the jurisprudence exam and submit all the required paperwork and just let my app sit until july next year? or like i mentioned above, is there a time limit for all this.

Thanks.

I just got my TX license in the past year. It's a very painful and expensive process. I would wait until you are closer to finishing residency before applying. The cost of applying is actually closer to $1500 once you factor in the additional stuff you have to complete for the application, and then you get to pay an $800 registration fee once you are approved (and every 2 years thereafter!).

It's a pain to get all the crap together for your application, but they were pretty quick about approving the license once my application was complete (<1 month turnaround time).
