If you get an MD/PhD at UTSA, do yourself a favor, and RUN!!! 😀

I really liked the panel as well--those 4 yrs were pretty entertaining. But, there were way too many aggies, and not enough longhorns!

Good luck all 👍 👍

Can you tell us more about your MD/PhD and what kind of questions he/she asked you? Thanks everybody for the helpful info! 😀

I'll post on interview feedback tonight--just glad that interview is over! 😀

Emily

Thanks Emily! I'm sure you'll start hearing back really soon...you're in the home stretch 🙂

I didn't get to watch the video b/c I'm at my fiance's parent's house and they don't have a very good computer....I'll have to watch the video in a couple of days when I get to my apt at school.

Anyway, does the video basically say what the short article said? The article could have gone more in depth with specific examples of why he thinks that, but maybe that's what the video says. Anyway, I agree with most of his list....I didn't get the "male" part. Since when did males get better health care than women? Some of the other things I have experienced or know people who have so I agree with it, but I probably need to see the video.

Txguy, did you get the "male" part....the very last one on his list? It seems that they say we have the very best healthcare in the world to justify escalating prescription drug prices and high hospital costs. So, I think this guy has a point....we don't really have that great of healthcare when so many people can't get it. Isn't the stat for TX like 24% uninsured? (I think that's according to Encarta, correct me if I'm wrong).

howdy dudes and duddetts, what day did yall submit you applicatino and on what day was it verifies.

thanks a bunch

Read through the thread.

Though I will say that the majority of the posters on this thread were processed 4 wks from submission (I was) and that many were complete back in June. I was done about 2 weeks ago.

Good luck and welcome to the thread!

Completed on 6/28 and processed on 7/21. Welcome to the Texas thread!

Sent TMDSAS in on 6/15 and processed 7/14.

On another note, has anyone else felt like the interview invites have been slowing over the past few weeks? Back in late July-early August, people were posting constantly about invites. Could it be from the flood of applications that the med schools are receiving now?

I submitted 6/21 and was processed 7/21 (not 100% sure on the submission date but it was something like that).

i think part of it is that a lot of people on this thread were processed around the same time, so we all ended up hearing back at the same time.

I didn't watch the video either lol.....I was going to ask you guys about the male thing, I wasn't sure what he was referring to either....but I do agree with the rest, access to healthcare certainly favors a certain "profile"......

AggieGal: I agree, this thread has been real quiet...I guess the "first wave" of invites is over...hopefully the second wave comes soon, maybe then Tech, A&M, or UTSW will look at me 🙁

Anyway, just to play along, I submitted on 6/17 (days after MCAT score day!), my 3 items were received on 6/21, and I was finally processed on 7/21. I think it shoudl still take TMDSAS 4 weeks to process--thats the upper limit they claim on their website, right?

Good luck, and welcome to the Longhorn, I mean, Texas thread

I've been lurking on this thread for over a month now and think i'll join in the fun.

I have a concern about my volunteer experience. I just got a volunteer position in the Texas Medical Center after filling out many applications and making several phonecalls (hello, I am providing FREE labor!). I only have about 9 hours so far of experience, but I think it's good experience. Other clinical experience I have was when I was 18, shadowing a neurosurgeon for ~100 hrs.

OK, so here's my question: how do you think adcoms will view my meager experience? I didn't put it on my tmdsas app b/c i wanted to submit it (7/28) but I emailed tmdsas asking to add it once I got the position (August 11). Do y'all think I have a chance of being considered? 😕

hey hey...the aggies may not be equal in number, but we certainly are equal in spirit 😛

on a side note: I think it's interesting that at every interview I've been to, I always end up sitting with a bunch of Longhorns (Aggies too). We may have our rivalry but I think it's cool how we still stick together.

Yes, I think that this is true. It does seem that some schools are more efficient than others.....

*waits patiently*

lol

For some reason, I am always around Aggies when I am interviewing! But it is cool how Aggies/Longhorns seem to proliferate the interview trail!

Anyway, nothing new to update 🙁

And welcome to the lurkers!

Yeah! Interview #5! Got an e-mail for Tech; choice of 3 interview dates....my interview will be on September 8 in Lubbock! Everybuddy check your e-mail =)

I think TMDSAS would be the best to ask about this. You might call the schools inidvidually and ask it anything has been added to your file, or just directly ask if that new volunteer experience has been added....

However, since it just began on August 11th, do you have enough experiences to speak about? Maybe since it was summer you were working alot, I dunno......

Good luck to ya 👍

You were processed on 7/14 right?

And when were you "tech" processed?

I called UTSA today and found out that I got an interview invite for 20 September. 😀

TxTech: They *still* haven't unpacked my app from the box TMDSAS sent them. They said "please please please give us until Sept 3d before you call back." 🙄 Technology is only great if you use it. 😉

UTMB: still being reviewed.
UTSW: "under review"
TAMU: just now being reviewed.

But I'm happy. 🙂

my app STILL hasn't been processed by tmdsas and when i called they said my correction is still in the pile of crap waiting to be entered into the system. i think i'll call or email each school to make sure they got the update. And yes, I think I've seen a lot of stuff to talk about already because I volunteer in the emergency room. Also, when I was 18 i saw this lady come into the er with a friggin burst aneurism and when they put the central line in she bled on my shoe!!!! Oh and she barfed all into the oxygen mask, really scary for me. Thank god she lived. ok i'm rambling.

i'm just worried b/c i'm a reapplicant and i'm pretty sure it was clinical experience and bad interviews that kept me out. Last year i had 3 interviews (Tech, UTH, UTMB) and got on the waitlist at UTMB and TEch. Oh, and Tech offered me a spot in their class THREE DAYS before they started class!!! But i had to refuse because of my job and i'm in a lease and no finaid lined up and other crap (rambling again). I hate to go through the hell of applying again but it will be worth it someday. 🙂

I just got an interview invite from UT houston and I know they don't have my LORs. Do you guys know of any other texas schools that offer invites before recieving letters?

I'm sure that you had your reasons, and of course it's your life, but.....

WOW. You *gave up a spot* b/c of your job? And as far as the FinAid goes, don't most schools have emergency funds to pay for your stuff until the paperwork clears? I know that some schools do.

Wow. I can't imagine turning down a spot. Hopefully this application cycle goes much better. Good luck! :luck:

If you are applying in TX you might as well do all the schools.

Do I still apply to all the schools even though I'm from California? --Thanks!

Don't say that, you're making me doubt myself even more...I hope I made the right decision but I went with my gut instinct even after thinking it over really hard.

I can't believe I turned it down either, but there were too many reasons for me not to go THIS year after I already gave up hope on getting in. I am more confident I will get in somewhere this time and will have more notice than two and a half days.

I wish I were processed...Last year it took 2 weeks.

Well, I won't say anything negative about your choice. I mean, it's YOUR life and only you understand the circumstances surrounding your decision.

Don't sweat the processing. It's only 4 weeks...and you've submitted already, right??? 😉 🙂 Watch when people submitting in late September and October start complaining about 6 week processing times! 😱

😱 😱 😱

At least you are now a seasoned veteran, and not a deer in the headlights like the rest of us. 😀

I would have personally sold anything and borrowed money from friends, family etc if I got a spot. But like Evo said, we don't know the entire situation, so I'm sure you made the right choice!

Well, Good luck--your clinical experience sounds fine now 👍

Yeah. I interviewed there last year but wasn't accepted. I think it's b/c I had a terrible set of interviews. 👎 But this year I'm much more seasoned.... 😉

Apparently, from some posts in this thread, UTSW sends invites to applicants with 3.5+/31+ regardless of receipt of secondaries and/or LORs.

Might as well if you don't mind traveling here for the interviews. The schools are great. The application is easy and much cheaper than AMCAS, but you need pictures to send in. Keep in mind TMDSAS doesn't do Baylor; Baylor is on AMCAS (i'm sure you know that) 😀

last year, both UTMB and UTH invited me without having received my LORs. 👍 But get them in anyway! 🙂

I just got an interview for UTMB on 9/24!!! YAY!!!! I was starting to get a little worried about not hearing anything...this should do me for a couple of weeks and I'll be happy.

Anyway, Evo and UTKB:What happened with y'alls interviews last year? Y'all are making me nervous when you talk about that....I'm really nervous about making a fool out of myself. I had a mock interview about 2 weeks ago and she said I did really well, but I appeared too stiff...I was really nervous. The last interview I had was for a bagger position at HEB! LOL!

Yeah I plan on going but, what do people usually wear? Sorry if this is a silly question, but I don't want to show up too casual, too dressed up, too trendy, etc. Any thoughts?

Are you staying with a med student or at one of the frat houses?

Thanks... I appreciate your input. As a matter of fact, I have already started communicating with the staffs from my schools of interest in TX.

the people who have already been interviewd help please.
what to wear. what kind of questions did UT-houston ask.

Any information is good.

Thanks

lol, as much as I would want to, I'm not stayin at a frat house...I am the kind of person that needs my space before the night before the interview--but it does sound like fun tho!

The pre-interview social stuff has no bearing on the admissions process--its just a chance for us to get a feel for the students and get an inside scoop on the school. Its very casual. Anybody hear anything different?

read earlier in this thread-- about aug 22 or so-- would be the day i posted my UTH interview info. Boy:suit, Girl:suit (skirt is more traditional, but there were plenty of plant suits to be seen). How long you are there depends when your interviews are. Mine were 11ish and 2ish. After your second interview you can leave.

OK miracles do happen...I got an interview from Tech today! This means I am 7 for 7! For all of you with not so hot MCAT scores or average GPR's obviously other stuff IS important (it worked for me anyway!). I am SO happy right now 🙂 It just makes me feel like I have done all I can do academically and now I can really show them the real me in person.

I'll be at Tech on 9/8. Not looking forward to that super long drive though...

I filled out the form by AMWA to stay with a med student...I didn't think the frat house would be a good idea in case a lot of people stayed there and didn't really go to bed at a reasonable hour. I figured it won't be too bad with just one med student, plus I can't afford a hotel....🙁 poor college student. However, AMWA is charging $15 to stay w/a med student!! I guess that's still better than staying at a hotel.

Hey! It looks like I'll be joining y'all in Lubbock on 9/8!! FINALLY! But...oh what a drive... 🙄 and it's in the middle of the week so I'll be missing some classes. I'm not looking forward to driving 7 hours by myself to a place I've never been. :scared:
