Your u/grad medical school *might* have some bearing for the ultra-competitive residencies like Gen Surg @ Mass General, etc.

This is mostly true, except for a few small specialties. I am applying to plastic surgery right now. With only 77 spots in the country, it is very small and very competitive. You would be fooling yourself to think that med school doesn't effect your ability to match in a specialty like plastics where a lot of it is who you know.

But you're right, most specialties look more at your individual accomplishments (step I, etc, etc).

Wow you got interviews at Baylor and UTSW and not at UTH?

Someone needs to figure out how this TX system works and write a book about it. Even though i'm done with my part...i'd still buy it to figure it all out!

The letter was apparently sent on December 10, but since I've been in Houston, my mail has been ON HOLD in Austin. The lady from UT-San Antonio called me this morning at 9:15 and was wondering why they hadn't heard any confirmation from me. Wow, things like this usually do not happen to me. So, on a completely different note, one guilty of being non-medically related, I was wondering if you Houston locals knew of any good local bands worth checking out? (I would post this in the lounge, but I have a hunch that more Houstonians will be around this thread) I moved to Houston about 4 months ago and don't know squat about the local music scene. I'm a bit sick of bars and clubs and wanted to check out some local live acts, but the ones I have seen thus far have left something to be desired. Any recs would be greatly appreciated. GO BEARS

As for the ranking, I was pretty sure about the following:

1. UTHSCSA
2. TAMU
3. UTSW
4. TT
5. UTMB
6. UTH

However, my fiance just got a job out of Houston in which he will be working one week on and one week off and I'm now considering puttting TAMU in the number one position. (I really don't want to live IN Houston or in Galveston and College Station is like an hour and a half away...am I correct on that?)

Anyway, I think my 2nd interview @ TAMU wasn't that great, but hey at least I can try. My first interview was with the chair of admissions and he said I had the best personal statement he had ever read so hopefully his opinion will override the other guy's opinion in Temple. 😳 I guess I'll give it a shot! 🙂

Thanks....my interview was the day after the World Series and he said that he actually stopped watching it to continue reading my ps. I just had one of those moments in the other interview where I forgot how to talk for 15 seconds which seems like a long time in an interview. When I remembered how to move my lips and make sounds come out of my mouth, I wasn't very articulate. Thanks again! 🙂

FYI: You're allowed to answer "will file later" and estimate what you'll be putting on your tax return. You can update it later when you have done your taxes. I've heard that certain awards are prioritized depending on when you filled out your FAFSA so it's best to get it done ASAP.
