Thanks lane. I have a question regarding the optional lecture sit in at 8 in the morning, I checked out the schedule for the week of my interview and it looks like the med students are going to be taking an exam 🙁 , now my question is this: are there going to be other classes (besides the ones on 3.102 and 3.104) to which I can sit in? and what is the purpose of this part of the interview? Will some of those students be part of the interviewing process? will it look bad if i skip it? Will it look good? any info will be useful. Thanks. And oh yeah, hope to see u at the social 🙂

hey drdragon, i'll go ahead and answer your question since it appears lane isnt around :meanie:

anyway, the option to sit in a class is just for you to get a feel of what classes are like. it's totally optional and doesnt matter at all whether you choose to do so or not, it's just for your own experience. and unfortunately there arent other classes to attend. but i think you said your interview was on 9/20 and i dont know about the second years, but the first years dont have exams on that day. ours are during next week. at least no exams that i know of... :scared: so you can sit in at 9 if you like. it may say we have a conference section at 8, but classes start at 9.

and like i said, sitting in a class is just for you to see what classes are like, and while you may get a student interviewing you, those will be all fourth years so no, you won't see them in class. so, it doesnt affect anything if you go or not.

hope that helps!

Yes, Texas Tech will have a new med school in El Paso.

Thanks lilstina for your insight 👍 . I just found out this mornign that I have an interview with Tx Tech, I picked the one on the 15th 😀 . As for the rumors regarding the med school in ELP it is more than a rummor it is a fact. They (TxTech) already broke ground on the new construction of the building during the summer. It should be up and running in about a year or two that is if everything goes smoothly and knowing my beloved hometown of ELP it will not (sad but true).

i think its accepting its first class in the year 2008...a little late for most of us 🙁

HOLLA

 Yeah, Tech is moving sloooowly this year. Mine's still in the "box."

Had TCOM yesterday. I really liked the place. Very much an easygoing interviewing experience.

For those who interviewed at Tech (Lubbock), what time did it end? I'm thinking about catching a flight back to Houston at 5:20pm after the interview and was wondering if I can make it or not. There is a 7 o'clock flight but don't want to wait. Thanks.

just call and talk to the admissions office to ask them what time you'll be done. I mentioned I wanted to catch a flight at a certain time and they scheduled my interviews to make sure I could make it. however, I was coming from out of state, so that may have made a difference.

Most people's interview ended 3:30 with tours and a wrap-up after that. They don't mind if you leave after interviews, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Tech's planning on interviewing 850 people this year--more than they've ever interviewed--so just be patient!

Yay!!!! I got another interview... I just got the mail today, and I had an interview from UTMB in it! I'm interviewing 10/1/04... Anyone else have an interview in Galveston that day? I hope this good news is followed by some more... But at least I'm glad to have 2 interviews!

Emily

I just got a UTMB interview for 10/1 too! That makes for three interviews in four days, nuthin' like jumpin' right in. I have a question about Galveston though. How far is it from Houston? Where do spouses find employment, is this not really a family school? thanks for any info, I am not currently so sure about it... I am from out of state so that is why I don't know, and I can't find much help on the net, nothing says "if you are moving to Galveston there are many nearby metro. areas for your spouse to work!"

it's ~45 minutes from houston but that's about all i know 😳

if you have any questions about dallas or san antonio (or atlanta) i can handle them a little better 😀

werd... in my usual post week/pre football game drunken stupor

prediction: 45-0.

didn't we almost lose last year to unt?

didnt play them last year, but two years ago we beat UNT 27-0

ah...i must be thinking of another near-upset..

I am trying to submit this bad boy asap, but i have a question

On the personal bibliography- it asks us to list the jobs we have held during our freshman year, sophomore yr, junior yr, senior yr, graduate school, and summer. Which summer is it referring to? All the summers?

Thanks for any help....

First of all, congrats! Looks like you're gonna be busy over the next few weeks! I interviewed at UTMB on 8/20, and I'd have to say that Galveston might not be the best place for all types of employment, especially business or computer-related employment. However, about half of the class is married, and a significant portion of the students are non-traditional (older) individuals. You definitely want to ask your tour guide (or any other medical student) about the employment thing....I guess it would depend on what type of work your spouse is looking for. Galveston revolves around tourism, seafood, and the medical school itself (research and medicine). For better employment opportunities, you might look to Houston (UT Houston, Baylor) or Dallas (Southwestern). I'm not an expert on Galveston or anytyhing, but I grew up in the Houston area and know a bit about the city due to its proximity from my hometown. I'd also advise going to the night before social if you can....this would be a great opportunity to ask questions =)

Just to add to what AsianDoc said, some of the students and faculty don't even live in Galveston. If you don't bind a bit of commute, you could always live somewhere between Houston and Galveston. You could go to school and your spouse could find a job in Houston.

Right on GutsyGal! I should have mentioned that too....whoops.

This is a strange question, but how are you guys sending in your photograph for the Baylor interview? It seems this is the only thing they want via snail mail, and I feel a little strange putting a photo in an envelope by itself. Is anybody appending a small note?

put your name on the back of the photo, along with your amcas id#. Then put a note explaining that it's for the interview. That should work fine.

Anyone heard from TTech in a while?

This is how slow TXTech is:
Secondary received July 15, still does not show up on my status screen...grrr 😡

I just got back from Houston. I really enjoyed the day and met a few SDNers at the night before. It was kind of funny how it happened...I sat down and started talking to two people and then one said, "Are you SFAJess?". I replied "Oh!! Who are you!!??" Turns out they were DrBevo and BrightStar!!

I'll be posting on Interview Feedback soon...I have an interesting thing that happened that day.

Haha..How funny. I hope nobody "recognizes" me when I go interview...that would be frightening...

Man I havnt posted in forever, kinda been a lurker through the whole interviewing thing....but I saw you too SFAJess, you were getting food and saying how it will determine if you like the school or not, I was the Indian guy in front of you. I saw DrBevo too. HOuston was great. Really liked the school....

What a great way to remember me! LOL! 🙂 The food didn't really pass the test for me, but I really liked the school, anyway. When they kept talking about it feeling right, it kind of did (but then I found myself in traffic for 2 hours). I haven't been to any of the other schools yet, but I really thought highly of UTH. The students were right...everybody was normal and welcoming. I may just have fallen in love with the school just because I haven't been anywhere else yet. I'll have to wait and see how the other schools hold up.

Yah, the only thing that I don't like about the Texas Med Center is the TRAFFIC. I am a horrible driver (quite literally) and I am scared that I would seriouslydamage my car in that traffic....something I must consider for UT-Houston and Baylor.

There are plenty of shuttles and bus routes to help you with this. UT-Houston has several shuttles and there are several apartment complexes w/n walking distance to the med center (The Greenbriar, The Lanesborough). Also the METRO (Houston's bus system) has numerous bus stops around the area (the 82, 73). I wouldnt worry about Traffic. What I would worry about is PARKING. It is too expensive to park in the garages (100+ bucks a month....and they keep going up!). Many people also park in the remote lots and take the metro rail to the med center...that option costs about 50 bucks a month.

The med student I stayed with lives in Lanesborough Apts and I noticed there was a park and ride right next to those apts to get on the train. I wouldn't mind doing that...what would bother me is going anywhere else other than the med center and downtown houston. After my interview, I decided to go back over to Rice Village to buy myself something for my birthday (my fiance gave me money b/c I already knew what I wanted from Express) and after that I needed to get to Katy. It took me 2 hours... 😱 Do people use the public transportation for everything else as well?

Well, if you were going to Katy that is another story..There is a LOT of traffic along I-10 (coming into town in the morning and out of town in the afternon). I don't recommend living out there for Medical school unless you want to commute around 6 in the morning and leave around 7 in the evening everyday to avoid traffic. Most people I know do not use public transportation all the time, unless they live along the rail(the park and ride you described next to the Lanesborough). As the rail is a fairly new addition to Houston, there are not that many places it can stops (currently, its major stops are Reliant Stadium, med center, museum district, and downtown). Plans are in the works to expand the rail to Katy and other cities....

ANYHOW, most people just DRIVE everywhere in Houston (besides med center)...Places are too spread out not to. If you know back routes you will be fine.

Thanks for the info, Madame Lulu! 🙂 Despite the traffic, Houston would be a great place to go to med school and I still plan on ranking it high. It's just something I've never been exposed to. Even in San Antonio the traffic doesn't get THAT bad. Thanks again!

Yup. I was at UT Houston this past weekend too. I never thought I would have met SDNers at the interview, but after I met someone named Jessica from SFA.. I had to ask if she was SFAJess.

Overall, UT houston was a great school, and I met BrightStar, Mahi, and SFAJess.

Hehe, Houston drivers are also known for their road rage, but I think it's ok around the medical center.

I saw a column in the Houston Barnacle today which intimated that a UT win over AK would be no big deal. 😱

Whatever. 🙄

However, Mack Brown is finished in Austin if they lose to OU again. :meanie:

that's b/c arkansas lost 10 out of 11 offensive starters from last year's team, so everyone is expecting them to suck this year. but they did win their opener pretty handily (63-14 or something)........even if it was only new mexico state, so maybe they are not as bad as everyone thinks (kind of like last year 👎 ). but we have the revenge factor working for us, since they whooped our ass the past TWO times they played us. it was nice to see mack brown run up the score..........maybe he is finally developing some of that stoops killer instinct 🙄 . i hope he runs it up this weekend too, and every weekend til ou for that matter, so maybe they'll play with a little swagger against ou. i know i am stupid for thinking this, but i really think we will beat ou this year. that defense looked pretty good (i know, it was only north texas) and cb is in midseason form. but even if the "unthinkable" happens, and we lose, i'm sure spurier can beat them next year with these players :meanie: . yeah right guys, tx will make mack fire grag davis before they give him the 'ol heave ho.......you really think tx is going to buy out brown's near $2 mil/yr contract for the next 4 yrs just to beat ou.......i wish, but not gonna happen. anyway, i have faith. this year is our year. :horns:

Has anyone sent an updated summer transcript to TMDSAS yet? I was wondering because I sent in mine about 2 weeks ago, they received it and it shows a C on my status page. However I don't see the changes reflected in my applicant profile? 😕
