Hey guys.

Pretty much I am always torn between Dentistry and Podiatry. Thus my name. My question is simply this.

What is a DAT score which would pretty much guarantee acceptance to a school in Texas. I know nothing is guaranteed but what numbers would you say would be safe.

My cGPA is about a 3.43 and my sGPA is a 3.67 an my bcpGPA is a straight 4.0 (one W in chem1 freshmen semester)

I'm so torn about whether I should apply for dental school or podiatry school, but I figured I should determine what id need.

My opinion (may be wrong): I don't think a certain DAT score can guarantee you an acceptance to dental school; you must have the whole package. However, if you score high enough, it does do you a favor and increase your chances of getting in. As far as I know, Baylor's DAT average is around 20, while Houston's and San Antonio's fall around 19. With that being said, you should try scoring higher than these averages. I think 22+ would certainly get you interviews, at least, from all three schools.

Thanks guys for the advice.

I'm mainly concerned about my cGPA which is pretty low (18 hours of dual credit in high school of all Bs and then some business courses) really messed with it.

Your problem is not what score you would need; your problem is ambivalence.

Dentist would be my most desirable.
Hell it's what I literally dreamed of for all of high school.
Enter college and got my ass handed to me freshman year due to family struggle and working full time and classes. Then got demoralized. Now wanting to actually pursue something that I want to do, which is a medical specialty that allows me to help people, own my own practice and work with my hands.
The problem is that one path requires an MCAT the other the DAT.
Therefore if I choose to pursue one, it's the one I'm more or less stuck with.
So my question is, in all honesty. Can I make it work?

Podiatry is a sure deal with my stats, I want to know if Dental School is a possibility. If so then that will be the path I will pursue.
Yet I don't want to go down a path, and realize later that it was all in vain.

Your stats are so strange. The science GPA is almost always lower than the cumulative...I think it's good to have it the other way around. Anyways, score a 20-21 on your DAT and you'll be fine.

But first, figure out what you want. We can't do that.

Thanks man.

More or less my first two years of college was me just taking lots of random classes, etc.
Then I was like I should probably go to class and stuff, and started taking pre-health pre-reqs and making A's.

Your GPA is great! However, there really is no "guarantee" DAT score that will guarantee an acceptance. You have to be well-rounded. In addition to stats, you must have ECs, shadowing, and volunteering. Best of luck!
