I'm just wondering how many people have gotten interviews at Baylor, Houston or San Antonio?? Are you in state or out of state?

I live in Dallas, have all my life and am a little upset that not one Texas school has invited me for an interview when 4 out of state schools have.

My sister has gotten interviews at all Texas schools and our scores are just about the same.

My DAT 17/17/17
Her DAT 18/18/16
My GPA 3.7,sci 3.5
Her 3.8,sci 3.7
I have 5 years of research experience and she has 1 year of research experience and 6 months of dental clinic experience.

It's also weird that we have gotten interviews at different out of state schools, the only one we both got an interview at was Nova, and while I received an interview at Case, her application was put on hold until she retakes her DAT (which she's not going to do).

Anyone make some sense out of all this? I'm at the point that I don't think I even want to practice in Texas if the schools won't give me the time of day. That may be harsh but I'm hurt!

Are you twin sisters ^_* Applying at the same time I see. Well, there are many factors that go into extending an invite: personal statement, gpa, dat, recommendation, as well as time of review. If they reviewed her application first and there were plenty of spots to fill, they will most likely extend her an interview more readily. Unless you scored much better on the DAT, or had a much better GPA, it is hard to tell why a person is extended an interview invite while the other is not. However, your GPA is stellar and the DAT grade is sufficient for most schools.

Wish you both luck,
Rich

last year i applied to all 3 texas schols thru tmdsas with a 21/21/16, 3.07 gpa. i only got an interview to baylor, but didn't get accept though. i used to live in texas, and my family still lives there. but i'm still considered out-of-state.
this year i only applied to baylor thru aadsas.

Only two things come from Texas...

To me, both your stats are exactly the same. The only thing I can think of that reflects your situation is that the applications process is all crap...or your applications are read by two different adcoms with differing opinions of what makes a good candidate (at every school perhaps). In other words, everything is just really random and acceptances one day may not mean an acceptance tomorrow.

Anyway, good luck to the both of you! I haven't even sent out my apps and I would gladly trade places with you, either of you.

How long do you guys have to normally wait to hear that you have received an interview? Granted I applied 8/31 and that's kind of late, I'm still starting to worry. I have good scores AA: 25 TS: 23 PA: 20; but I'm an economics major with a 3.3 gpa. I heard from UTSA on 9/17 but I've yet to hear from Baylor or UT Houston.

Is it too soon to worry?

Whoa, AA 25? You will get those interview invites for sure.

one of my friends got interviews to all 3 schools even though the application was submitted only a couple weeks prior (go figure she has pretty amazing stats). my application was submitted over 2 months ago and i havent heard much from any of the texas schools 😡

She had her application in May 1st, Mine was June 16th... I still think it's pretty crappy. She comes in town next week to go to her Baylor interview, and I'm driving her to it. I'm happy for her but it still bugs me.

Last year when I received my invitation to Baylor, it took them about a month and a half or so. I interviewed early in December. On the other hand, I didn't get any response from San Antonio and Houston until March.

at least someone in your family will be a dentist

hello there...i too live in dallas and have comprable stats as you. I have recieved an interview from baylor and sa....during my balor interview one of the interviewers said that the earlier your intervie the better your stats. my point is that mayble you should call to make sure you have a complete application in. they will not send you an invite if you do not.

downtown dallas is a pretty big place... you could always "accidently get lost" driving there

hahaha I would but wouldn't you know I work at Baylor, not the dental school but in a research lab.

jr8047: I've already called them they said my application didn't make the first cut. The only other thing I can figure is I e-mailed the Dean of Admin at SA in April after I took my DAT and asked if I was competitive. She said I needed to retake it. I also have a friend at Baylor that took me to meet the Dean there, he was so harsh that I wasn't "Baylor material" he made me cry on my way out.

It's funny that I'm not "good enough" for them but Tufts, Case, Nova and Arizona all liked what they saw.

I really wanted an interview at Houston though. I heard they like Chem majors. I have a BS in Chemistry but no word from them.

My application was submitted to the schools on August 31st. So far I have been invited to interview at Baylor(later this month) and SA(Nov). I am an in-state applicant and my stats are competitive. How many times did each of you take the DAT?

took the dat once; as=19, ts=20, pat=14;gpa=3.6,sci=3.5; For all the texans out there i've been told that the texas schools do NOT put any weight on the PAT section of the dat.

also, during my san anton interview they shared the last years entering class stats and the average gpa=3.7, sci=3.5 and dat as=20!!

wow..i'm sorry you had such an awfull experience.. I don't know why anyone would want to qwell anothers aspirations. At any rate, if baylor is going to readily dismiss you as an applicant then maybe you might be happier at one of the other schools. From your stats, you appear to be a competitve applicant and certainly there have been MANY others who have been accepted with stats like yours. During my interview at Baylor I too had a school official try to discourage me by telling me I needed more dental experience to be a competitive applicant.
It is still early so you may find that you get an invite soon. Also, I understand Houston is quite slow at interview invites.

best of luck to you.

any Texans attending the Texas Mission of Mercy on Oct. 21-22nd?
