Hey everyone,
I'm currently a P4 at Tech. I'm here to answer any questions you may have about the program or the school.
Just a little about myself. Went to UT for undergrad, 3.25 GPA 80 PCAT. Did my first 2 years of pharm school in Amarillo, and my last 2 in Dallas. I'm a week away from finishing my 4th P4 rotation and being halfway done with my last year of school! I'd be happy to field any questions about classes, rotations, or anything else you can think of. I am also applying for a residency, so I can try to answer any questions you might have about that.
I've interviewed 30+ students for the school as well, so I can answer questions about the interview process or give some interview advice if you'd like. If anyone here was at the early decision interviews in Dallas, you've probably already met me.
Questions I won't be able to answer would be anything having to do with the application process. When I applied, Texas Tech wasn't a part of PharmCas, so I am entirely unfamiliar with how that whole process goes down. Hopefully your future classmates or current P1s can help with that. Otherwise, I'd suggest emailing Sharon Harrison. Side note: The student services at Tech is unmatched by any other school. Don't hesitate to ask them any questions. I interviewed at 5 other schools and none of them made me feel as comfortable and at ease as the staff at Tech.
As for the smell, you get used to it. It was pretty bad while I was a P1, but I hardly noticed it P2 year. However, there are days, when even those who were born and bred in Amarillo were bothered by the smell. I was more annoyed with the snow. Coming from Austin, I'd seen snow fall once. Adjusting to driving in the snow sucked. And I don't mean to pile on, but for some reason, the worst drivers in America all decided to live in Amarillo.
However, the school itself has many redeeming qualities and it's a great program. I'm really glad I chose to go to Tech. I'll do my best to check the forums and answer questions. Good luck to all the applicants!
