Texas Tech Application Thread

If anyone is worried about the HRDKA that some one posted about earlier, you should not. I am currently a P3 and took the test and made an easy A. The test is not that bad and as a class we had 99% make the 75% required. So it is not that bad. If y'all have any questions let me know.

lol, agreed.....no reason to be worried, 1 person didnt pass. but after 2+ yrs in pharmacy school and you dont know that stuff, it would be a shame. still studied for it, but questions were basic and mostly obvious. its 3yrs down the road so no need to worry bout it now, lol
 
i will be at abeline on friday!! I am just happy that we are in the first batch. I heard they accept 80% of the people. But i have started to get that wierd feeling in my tummy...This is my first interview!!

Oh btw does anyone know where does the interview take place at the abilene campus? I looked through the email and the documents online and it doesn't mention anywhere the room number or anything.

And on the deployment choice form it says that if you go to amarillo, the last two years you get a choice of location. But it says if you go to abilene you have to stay there for all 4 years. Is there any reason for this? I want to go to abilene but I would love the option of dallas/ftwrth later on.
 
that's what I was trying to find out too. I called my advisor's office (which is in Amarillo) and the lady said they will either have signs everywhere or just head toward Student Services for info.
I hope there'll be someone there early for me to ask question.

The interviews at the Abilene campus will take place in our case study rooms downstairs. I'm sure Mike Nall will be telling you which rooms you'll be in. Mike is great, and he truly knows how to make prospective students feel welcome and at ease. He doesn't sugar-coat things and will tell you his true opinion about everything at TTUHSC SOP in Abilene. Interviews are after lunch anyway so you'll have plenty of time to be told where to go.

As far as deployment... when the Abilene campus was created, they really wanted to keep the students there all four years in order to build up the program. Unfortunately because the campus is still in its baby phase, it lacks some specialized preceptors. This forces us to seek rotations elsewhere than Abilene. Those who choose Abilene all four years will do most of their rotations in Abilene but may have a couple in other cities. If you consider deploying, you may opt to make Lubbock, Amarillo or DFW your main campus your last two years of the program and do your rotations in those cities. Spots are very limited so if you consider deploying, plan on trying to be at the top of your class during P1 and P2 years.
 
Interview was great. it was actually not as stressful as i had read on the sdn interview questions site. We didn't have the essay section. Critical thinking was arite. Definitely the easiest part of the interview. On half the questions i felt that there was no right answer. It could be either depending on the way you think. There were one or two logic questions where you have to think a little and there is definitely one right answer.

Group session wasn't that bad either. The prompt was a little confusing but it is not a killer.

For the interview they ask a set of seven questions which is standard for everyone. And as you speak they write your answers down and so you get some extra time to relax between questions as they finish writing your response.

I was a little surprised that they have dress codes. And as I am a crazy punk clothing person, it will take some getting used to.

Yes, I agree. However one of my interviewers asked me questions I didn't expect to be asked and was quite surprised at it too. But it's over. I tried my best and that's all it matters 😛.

Yeah. And I was surprised that they didn't ask more. I just fell like I didn't have a chance to tell more. My interviewers were very nice though.

Overall, I fell at ease for the most part, thanks to Mike Nall and the welcoming staff. I really like the campus plus new equipment and interesting teaching style! I didn't care about the fact that it was small or anything. I dont think I would even have time to go out or sleep.

Now I sit tight and wait.

No essay question...hmm wonder if it will be the same way for the rest of the Amarillo and Abilene interviews.

Yes. They sent another email 2 days before the interview.
Oh, make sure you have your immunization record and deployment form which are found on the first invite email. If you have it already then great!

Yeah! I like the staff and faculty and the students too. They are nice. I hate waiting xP

They said that mid feb they will be reviewing the first two interview batches (21st and 28th) and send the acceptance mails out then. But my friend who interviewed there last year said that they don't email it but actually mail it out. So it will take maybe a week or two after they make a decision. So i am guessing end of feb or early march max. And they also said that if you dont get the invite then that just means they will review it again with the next batch. The latest they send the invites is May end. But then there have been some rare cases where students have gotten accepted just days before school started.
 
Yah, I have also heard that they mail their acceptances. My friend had confetti fall out of her letter :laugh:

I'll be at Amarillo as well..and it sure will be a super long day..the schedule looks super packed. How are you guys preparing for the interview? Did you already book your accommodations?

Look over the interview questions previous students posted in the SDN Interview Feedback, its incredibly helpful. My cousin and I are going to mock interview each other, since she is applying as well. I just got my invite last night, I haven't booked a hotel but I have an aunt I might stay with. There is a link to a list of suggested hotels in your invite e-mail. Good luck preparing, everyone!!
 
Congrats to those who received interview invites! There used to be a link about interview preparation specific to Tech...can anyone find it??

Just use that link..there's really nothing else u can do bcos the questions relate to ur life experiences.. Just be honest..one thing u could do is to take a pen n paper n write down the important events n challenges in ur life, how u handled them, how it affected ur personality, etc... This will make it easier for u to recollect n answer the questions.. Also, it may be a good idea to write down all the questions u have abt the school because throughout the interview there are sooooooo many opportunities to ask questions..they really make you feel comfortable and try to answer ur questions...hope that helps!!!

Its a long day. I interivewed last year but did not get in.....This year I am still waiting for an interview but have not heard anything yet....

Your day will start with orientation for30 mins. Then you will take a test. Its a psychological test where there is no true answer... Just do your best and guess. I heard they got rid of the writing so do not worrk about that. Then you have lunch and then you will be assigned to solve a dilemna with a group. Personally I did not like the group exercise because the kids were just trying to solve it on their own and were not really helping...The faulty will come in and you will present it to them..Then they will ask you 2-3 questions....

Then you either go to your interview or laptop orientation/tour....The interview is as follows:

They will ask you either 7-9 questions based on your problem solving abilities....Major points to incude: Think about why you chose pharmacy and Tech. How do you work in group, meet deadlines, weak/strengths ect.. Like the person mentioned above just get a pen and write down all your experieces and you should be fine. Just talk and use extensive eye contact...Lastly, leave a good impression.

Do we have to have a medical professional fill out our immunization document? Can I just go to my health center on campus and get a copy of what the schools has with their stamp?

The only questions I saw on that link go like this :" Was the staff friendly at the interview? " and it was more a feedback from students how comfortable they felt at the interview, not specific questions they were asked. Idk, maybe I AM missing something
