The way the letter is worded, it makes it seem as if they decided to increase their class size and so they're squeezing me in. I thought they didn't take people from off the waitlist until much later so I'm just assuming it was "pre-waitlist." Then again, I could be completely mistaken...

I came up with a weird question today and I want to get the thoughts of the people on this thread about it:
So we all have heard that many of the waitilists of the TMDSAS affiliated schools are not ranked. The way these adcoms will accept people off these unranked waitlists is based upon maintaining the balance of the class. From my understanding, maintaining the balance of the class means keeping characteristics like race/ethnicity, undergrad majors, etc. of the class they have as of right now relatively the same with the people they accept off the waitlist. I have no problems with this. It is what it is. But it does make me think:
How did these schools achieve this balance in the first place when they do not know which students they interviewed will match with them? I mean, isn't it possible that a school will get the match results, look at the intially matched class as a whole, and not be satisfied with the balance of the initial match results? In this scenario, would it be possible for the schools to accept people of the waitlist that would rebalance the class to where the adcom wants it to be?

You make a good point. All I know is that being on the waitlist sucks. I'm not really sure if there's anything I can REALLY do to help my chances. I personally believe that they already know who they'd be willing to take out of the waitlist...how could they not? This whole pool thing just seems like a way to get out of students calling all the time to see what number they are. We'll see. Good luck to everyone that is STILL waiting.

Anyone received a letter about the San Antonio waitlist? The admissions office said they sent out waitlist and rejection letters almost two weeks ago, but I've yet to receive anything.

UT Houston was my top choice primarily because the people there seemed so happy and at home. As far as you not being impressed... if brand new facilities (incl. anatomy lab), one of the most beautiful and high-tech hospitals in the nation, an immaculate 24-hour study lab, posh student housing, an olympic-sized swimming pool and massive new gym 😀, location in the heart of a major city, tremendous patient variety, and connections to MD Anderson and the Texas Heart Institute (to say nothing of the rest of TMC) don't "impress" you... I don't know what would.

I agree..TMC did impress me alot. I just felt like the UT Houston school itself was alright... Maybe I'm the only one who got this impression when i went there, but it seemed like Baylor kids get first dibs on all the awesome resources and opportunities there...

how many students will texas tech accept this year? 140 or 150.
Also, does anyone know how many students they have accepted currently for their class. That way i can see how many people have to withdraw before they go to the wiatlist.

UTSW has so far offered just under 300 acceptances for a class of >230. Just something I heard this weekend in Dallas. Seemed like a third of the new acceptees there were still deciding amongst UTSW and a few other schools (Baylor mostly).

Your welcome. To be more specific, I was told that the 185 people attending UTSW's MS0 event comprised roughly two-thirds of the acceptances offered at that point (comes to about ~270 so far). In 2004, 354 acceptances were ultimately offered for a class of 213. So it seems like with the larger class size now (~20 more) and the # acceptances so far, the school could be moving about 100 off the waitlist. I'm sure that would include the entire top quartile of the alternate list and at least part of the 2nd. Has the school notified waitlisted students what quartile they are in?BlinkyCat said:

UTSW sent us an e-mail about being waitlisted, but it says that they're not disclosing to us where we are on the list itself. I guess either there's not a quartile breakdown this year or they're just not telling us.

I'm not sure how accurate this is given that I was also told that they stopped handing out interviews in Nov., and I recall people getting interviews after that. oh well.... all we can do is wait..

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ACCEPTED FOR HOW MANY SLOTS: that way we can see how many people have to say NO before we got a shot.
WHEN THE SCHOOLS SAY THEIR WAITLIST WILL MOVE.
DO THE SCHOOLS EVEN THINK THEIR WAITLIST WILL MOVE OR NOT.

p.s. this is my second time applying so for the people who only interviewed at texas schools and are only waitlisted at texas schools, you better start getting your application ready for reapplying. next time apply to ALOT and i mean ALOT of OOS schools. i was waitlisted at texas schools last year, needless to tell you how that went.
if you are waitlisted at any OOS school, WALK there on your bare knees to and hold their leg and beg for an acceptence. Do not let the leg go until they offer you an acceptence. That's your best shot.
any other questions, u know what to do.
