I called Tech as well. They won't even bother with the waitlist until the number falls below 140. I asked what's the latest we could hear something and they said that it was not unusual to notify someone up to the day before classes start.

Just FYI: I was told by the UTSW admissions office that at this point no movement has been made on the alternate list, instate or out of state. Of course, this is expected. Just passing it along.

From your profile you have a terrific application. I think UTSW likes Oklahoma students - met a OOS acceptee from there at 2nd Look weekend. Good luck - I bet you have a great chance of getting in.

Yes you can, if the schools that waitlisted you were ones you ranked higher than the school that accepted you.

i'm hoping for major southwestern/baylor movement cause it seems like a lot of kids are holding acceptances at both schools. let the waitlist trickle begin and let it not end until we are all in med school.

The only school I've heard of that's increasing its class size is Texas A&M, which used to be 80 but has now expanded to ~100.

I know for a fact that UTSW is staying in the 230 range.

I would agree with that assumption. Seems pretty silly to me not to have it ranked.

I asked Karen Davis at UTSW earlier this week about waitlist movement. She said there's been none so far. I don't know if they just don't have any spots to offer up yet or if they're in the process of deciding who to call from the unranked waitlist. The wait this week has been excruciating.

Does anybody else get the feeling that all (or at least nearly all) the TMDSAS schools have overaccepted by more than they would normally overaccept. i mean i know there has been drops of waitlist movement here and there (like ut-houston and san antonio) but i get a real bad vibe this year. sorry to sound negative. its still early in the process obviously but the vibe is very bad.

Let's talk about the schools, how they handle waitlists, and what to expect.

I just called all the schools that I want info on their waitlists.

A&M: I'm on their waitlist
UTSA: won't come out until end of Feb
Texas Tech: Will come out on the 10th
UTSW: I'm on hold. no wait ring ring, on hold again. ring ring. "Hi can you hold" on hold again. ring ring, on hold again. "call back monday"

What we can do now is call A&M, find out if you are on the wait list. Remember that their school is small and their list is small. So if you are not on their waitlist, you may be on another school's waitlist.

my utmb waitlist letter says that june 1 is the date when they will cut off people on their waitlist who already have a spot at another school.

i assume that applies for the other texas schools as well? can anybody confirm or deny this?

doesn't this dramatically decrease the level of waitlist movement since the only kids who will be accepted off the waitlists at this point will be kids who don't already have a spot at another texas school?

Nah - it caught me completely by surprise. I didn't have any e-mail contact with the school prior to the certified letter (dated May 30th) that I received on Friday morning. I hope you hear something soon! 👍
