Thank You Letter for Admissions Advisor?

I'm wondering if it's appropriate to send a thank you letter to a med school admissions advisor. She was really helpful, but I don't want it to come across as sucking up. Thoughts?

Saying a sincere thank you is almost always appropriate. You’ll probably make her day.

I sent hand written thank you notes to the admission offices of every school that I attended. To be honest I don't think it really does much as far as improving your chances. I was just raised with manners and sending a thank you is just something you do after someone provides you with an opportunity via an interview.
