I just received a thank you letter from a program I've interviewed at. I was quite surprised, first because I didn't know this was done, and second because I didn't really feel that my interview went that hot - they asked me a lot of petty questions that I didn't think had much to do with my app.

Do you guys know anything about this? Is this standard procedure for some programs? Do they send letters to everybody or just to the people they are interested in? Anyone else got them?

Thanks.

I got a few of those last year. I don't think they send them to everyone, but I couldn't say for sure. My friends and I tended to get them from different places... but it was sort of a keep it on the D&L since nobody wanted to make anyone else feel bad.

This is a question that has come up recently. Do PD's give their top choices some kind of feedback about where they are on their lists? Is this feedback done during or after the interview process? For example, many of the PD's that I have met with go out of their way to say that I will most likely get my top choice given my "numbers", but aside from a couple of very generic "we enjoyed meeting you" emails, I have not been contacted after my interviews yet. A couple of points, I'm out of town and not getting my mail, I am WAY behind on my thank you letters.

Does EM do the heavy recruiting that other specialties engage in? Any feedback from current residents or applicants would be greatly appreciated. I'm wondering if I am a bad interview or if my less-than-prompt thank you cards are having a negative affect.

Thanks
