What's appropriate for thank you notes?

Card or letter?

Handwritten or typed?

What should it say? Should a letter of intent be sent separately?

How long after the interview should I send it out?

I haven't seen a recent post about this, so just curious. The school I just interviewed at mentioned "we welcome thank you letters if you wish to send them", so I was wondering if this was expected.

Thanks

E-mail or nothing.

I emailed my thank you letters to my individual interviewers as well as the admissions office. I received a response from every single one!

I would, however, send your LOI separately

I did handwritten notes, but I don't think it matters at all. Email should be fine, especially if you want it to be quick (like for an upcoming committee meeting).

I also emailed each interviewer separately. There were some aspects of the thank you email I may have copied at pasted that were relevant to how I felt about the program, but most things just touched on unique tidbits of the time i had with the interviewer(s) and the overall feel i got from the school.

So far it seems like people respond to emails well. One lady actually cc'ed my thank you letter to some other people on the adcom. Plus, emails get there faster, and this will certainly be before they give their opinion of you to the committee.
