How many thank you notes do you need to write during interview season? Does everyone need one? Thanks

I did my thank you notes via email, sent to everyone who actually interviewed came. Then, when it came time to certify my ROL, I sent my top choices love letters. My #1 choice get a very enthusiastic love letter saying I will rank them as #1 and exactly why, the others in the top three got nice love letters saying they've been ranked very high and it would really be a pleasure to match with them. I got my #1 top choice. I think you can do thank you notes however you like.

I would just write thank you notes to your favorite interviewers or ones you feel you really connected. The rest just send emails. That way you know they actually received them. When the time comes, you can send an additional email, especially when the program emails you come close to match day.

Generally minimize post-interview correspondence. You don't get points for them in internal medicine. Impress the program on your interview day, not after!

I wrote thank you notes to as many people I could. My current PD even kept a copy of my note and showed me after I matched. Don't underestimate the importance of a Thank You, even in Internal Medicine.

A friend of mine gave me a hard copy of this book which made it really easy. Good Luck!

I wrote 3-4 per program. One for each interviewer, one for the PD (if (s)he wasn't one of my interviewers), one for the PC (probably the most important) for arranging the interview day.
