I had a 3.08 sGPA and a 3.26 cGPA, an underdog especially considering KCUMB's minimum 3.25 sGPA requirement. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do. You can do anything if you put your heart and soul into it - good luck underdogs, I'm rooting for you all.

So, I'm waiting to be AACOMAS verified and I also just got back my sad pathetic MCAT score this week. I'm wondering what kind of wait time I should expect for any kind of secondaries/interview invites? (If I get any).

cGPA 3.15/sGPA 3.4/MCAT 20 Q (PS 7, VR 9, BS 4! wtf; retaking in Jan). Should I be looking for any response from schools at this point or do they typically wait until they get your final MCAT score? Oh, I did indicate on my app that I'm re-taking so hopefully they wouldn't toss me out immediately :xf: I just don't wanna waste alot of time stalking my email if they're gonna be waiting until the end of Feb before they give me any real consideration.

P.S. the rest of my app is rock solid, just that stinkin' MCAT 😡

Yea... you can fill out secondaries (they will send them) and all that, but you're not going to get an interview invite with a BS 4 and 20 overall. Study hard for that January one, and if you score well, you may still get some interview invites after that. Just make sure you do well.

Hey everyone! Although I lurk on this website almost daily, I'm not much of a poster. However, I thought I'd share my story, since I definitely consider myself to be an underdog.

I applied late last (2010-2011) cycle (secondaries submitted in February). I was granted 3 interviews (KCUMB, ATSU-SOMA, and LECOM-E), but was wait-listed at each school. For the 2011-2012 cycle, I made sure to submit all my secondaries by the end of August. I was invited to interview again with KCUMB, and received my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday 🙂 KCUMB is my top choice, and I'm super excited to be enrolled next fall!

cGPA 3.44 sGPA 3.27 MCAT 24O

I was just accepted to KCUMB yesterday! I have a 3.40 cGPA, 3.15sGPA, and 28R MCAT.

Congratulations. I was there 9/26 but I live in Canada so I haven't heard anything from KCUMB.

Your MCAT is good. If you submit your AACOMAS application now...it won't be verified for 4-5 weeks...which is late in the cycle. I suggest submitting June 1 and you will have a good chance of getting in. Now, if you don't want to wait another year...you can apply now 🙄

May not be an underdog much longer. Hard work pays off! Of course I still have to take my MCAT in the spring, so not counting my chicks before they break membrane!

Still no interview invites and 1 rejection post-secondary for me (3.2 sci and cumm GPA's and 23Q MCAT).

Is there anything I can do to let my top choice school know how interested I am beyond just calling to check up? Every time I call they just say "your file is complete and no decision has been made". I registered for the January MCAT, is it worth calling them and letting them know that information over the phone or will they see it on AACOMAS?
 
You could send a "Letter of Interest" which is basically a letter re-stating how bad you want to go to the school, what you're currently doing (update them on your EC's, any planned or current coursework, and your planned MCAT) and why you would be a good fit for the school. Most likely though, they're going to wait for your MCAT score since 23 is a little on the low side for acceptance. Not impossible though. If you want it, go get it son!

I'm also looking into Pikeville with very similar stats but I'm a Michigan resident.
Good to know it is possible to get in with a 22 MCAT score!!!

I'm from WA and even though I have a low MCAT I had a good amount of EC with my app.
 
Just wanted to share my status and tell all underdogs to push on...

I received 3 interview invites...PCOM, KYCOM, and WVSOM.

Don't want to jynx myself, just wanted to show that there is hope!

Yes, it is good to know that some schools look past the MCAT score. I had a 25 and did not retake it because I felt my clinical experience in healthcare should make up for 1-2 points on a test that tests preqs I took 15 years ago.

Some schools did and others did not. Congratulations on your acceptance.

I'm gonna disagree just on account of the formula. S/he is absolutely not an underdog, unless there's some IA and lack of work/volunteer/medical experience thrown in there too. Still great that s/he got in and all, but definitely not an underdog.

Historically speaking, he's right, AZCOM does prefer a higher MCAT. His GPA is right on the money. I have similar stats (but with a 25 MCAT) and I would be considered an underdog too.
 
LMU-DCOM interview invite this morning. Now I gotta call em back and withdraw my application D:
 
On hold at Western COMP-NW (Lebanon) until my next set of grades come in. Better than being rejected! Time to ace biochem and advanced Japanese/Anthropology!

The mcat is exactly why I thought I'm an underdog for AZCOM. Regardless, I want to put my stats out there so people can know they are not only accepting those with high mcat scores.
