I just think it's stupid. To me, it's an admission that DO students may not be as academically motivated/skilled. If our argument is that DO students are trained as rigorously as their MD counterparts with added features such as OMM and "holistic care", then it should be just that. The MD and DO students should have the same thresholds every step of the way. I'm sure the five percent is irrelevant in general, but I have no idea why its existence is even needed...
But isn't this with reference to combined courses? Courses that are taken together under the same conditions...? If not, then I don't think this is an issue at all.
Yes. Same lectures, same exams.
While I sincerely doubt that 5 percent on exams means anything translated into real-world clinical scenarios, I think that it is obvious that these courses should have the same grade requirement from both medical degrees if in the same class. I just think that the grade difference, while practically insignificant is almost like saying that the DO students can't perform with the MD students by whoever sets these gradelines. Again, it's not important but I do think that it's careless. And considering that I never completed my application to MSU-COM I can say that without reservation 😛
JP, I'm not saying that this proves that DOs are inferior, which is what I think HumbleMD is implying not only in this post but in other inflammatory ones as well. I'm saying that it is careless to require less of DO students than MD students at a university where the two medical doctoral students intermix frequently.

Im waiting for an MSUCOM DO student to give his/her opinion and insight. I could care less about the grading policies of other schools. No one here except an MSUCOM DO student can accurately comment on this topic. If its not something that they are upset about or something they are fighting to change then I see no need in having an open forum to "discuss" this issue.
I've been very careful to not make any inference as to its meaning. Any interpretation I leave to the individual, but I am vehemently defending the truth of a harmless fact (which of course, others seem to assume is harmful, and seem to be on the immediate defensive of).
Why are people jumping on humble? I don't know why humble is hanging around hte DO forum, but he hasn't really said anything that crazy or insulting. THe 5% is either true or not, its not an opinion that can be argued. I doubt it applies to anything other than MSU's grading policy. Big deal. As Electric might say, hug it out bitches!
WALKE219 is a DO student at MSU & replied earlier.
I think the whole thing is irrelevant to everyone other than the MSU COM and MSU CHM students!
