When you void, does it ask you "Are you sure you want to void?"
I'm pretty sure I didn't void it but now after reading these questions, I can't remember.

Im such an idiot...I said that I won't be doing SDN or anything mcat related for at least a month and now I'm back and starting to worry all ready.

Basically ima second time taker- I felt nice about PS- although th eoslar stuff was rough!
VR has ruined my day. I was getting high marks in verbal and doing great on practice but this just depressed me! I felt the passages were very hard tog et through and I rarely felt as if I was doing any "reasoning" as I answered the questions unlike the AAMC tests!!! urgh! the environmentalist one with anthills an dstuff was crazY! not to mention the AI one was all over th eplace. I didn't feel like I got a fair shot with answering these correctly...anyway i feel sick to my stomach and really hope I improved my disgusting 7 in verbal!

Bio- orgo was sooooooo much better than my jan 30- wh ocna complain about two essentially identical oxidation qs and transesterifications?????

, and the bio passage on nucleosomes I found a little wishy washy

everything else not bad

prob. downgraded my lovely S in writing just hope i didnt downgrade my VR Ill even t ake a 7 after that horror show

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee are the campions, my friends... AND WEEEE, WE'LL KEEP ON FIGHTINGGG till the enddddd....

I think what sucks the most about taking the MCAT is you spend so, so much time studying... and after you come out of the test you feel like ****, as if all these past months were a complete waste.

I thought the test was difficult. I took the 2pm test. Some of the discreet questions were pretty damn tricky in PS, even though at first glance they looked simple. I wasn't too fond of the electric circuit one, and another passage or two which had some tricky questions.

VR I just suck at, and this time was no exception. It's awful when you literally change your answer 3 times to 3 difference choices on a 4 choice multiple choice test a good few times. Wish I had time for more practice!

BS, it was definitely tough. Where the **** was orgo. I wasn't too happy about that... orgo is what pulls me through. Some of the passages were very dense and questions / answer choices very ambiguous. There were a few easy passages but other than that there was some tricky stuff. I usually don't have troubles with R/S configs, but that one question definitely had me confused on priority assignments.

We'll see what happens in a month. I'm not feelin too good about the score though..

soo im behind in genetics and histology but i feel too depressed to concentrate, wheres the cymbalta... ? wait wut

I took the 2 pm administration and I'm feeling pretty devastated about it this p.m. I got a 29Q last Aug, spent the entire summer studying, and have scored in the 32-34 range on AAMC very consistently for the last month. Avg = 33.5. Last week, I took AAMC 8 and I was convinced I failed. Then I got a 34. So I'm TRYING to remind myself that it ALWAYS feels like you suck, and then it will be better than expected.

STILL, I got owned on the solar stuff in PS. WTF was up with that passage. And also? Knowing the name of laws? Unfair. I laughed my ass off this evening when it dawned on me that my ability to get into medical school might be affected by my understanding of how a toilet flushes. I hope I don't score lower than my 29Q from last year. That would suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck to go down.

I thought the VR passages were longer than AAMC, so I tried early on to go fast. I spent less time than i usually do on questions and more time reading, but they didn't seem like the hardest I'd ever seen. I guess I'll see when I get my 5 in VR, right?

Usually, I kill the orgo sections of Bio but I struggled with some of these. I think I guessed OK in biol, but really, that DNA microarray and placental gene expression **** threw me.

For the 2pm test:

PS - Spent and wasted too much time on that solar intensity/mass-flow problem. I still don't understand it. As a result, I had less time on other problems I was planning on coming back to. Overall, the section sucked and I probably didn't do too well...

VR - The passages seemed really straightforward but I found myself taking too much time reading. I usually hate humanities passages, but for some reason I found these to be better than some of the social science questions. The sulfur extraction one might have got me.

BS - I think I did very well here. Very biology-based and little O-chem (which was simple and straightforward). I really like the microarray and nucleosome questions. With a biochem background this stuff was very basic. I was surprised by the number questions relating to the central dogma of life.

Overall - I was a little too anxious in the beginning, which probably caused me to be off my game in the PS section. As time went on, I became much more comfortable and did well in the later sections.

Thank god this thing is over....

*open's can of beer*

i agree with most ppl, PS was excessive compared to AAMC prac. test and i usually avg. a 14... 🙁

verbal was decent

bio wasnt bad

lastly, did everyone have their fingerprint taken? i didnt, i had a photo taken, anyone else have this too?

Hey man, so when you say excessive, what do you mean in comparison to AAMCs? Questions were a lot harder? Were they still conceptually focused or were they harder because they were more calculation heavy?

It's a relief to see that everyone else thought that the PS was as cracked out as I did...the circuits and first few passages (combined with nerves) completely threw off my pacing and I had to rush through the last two passages 🙁

The VR and BS I didn't think were bad. I guess we'll find out...

Does anyone know if they administer the same test to all of the September takers? If so, should we be saying less about what was on the test? If not, I have a question about one of the PS problems that I wanted to kill...

I had a photo and fingerprint, the fingerprint was with ink though, not electronic.

At first I thought this was a joke, then I remembered the passage lmao 😀

Ok so it's pretty global then. I'm in Canada. Who the hell mentioned magnetism previously?

I guess we don't really have anything to worry about if it was difficult for everyone??

8AM atlantic Canada... first passage was about the Earth's magnetic field.

okay 2pm I think im remembering?

1. fishes
2. tank passage w/ circuit -which I thought was odd/confusing
3. a water heating system w/ sun - sorta hard
4. the NO2/ NO- dumb reaction
5. using h2 not ch4 -pain with the reaction
6.
7. Cm/ Li element and an BOND Dissociation ENERGY passage -was it the same as the NO/NO2

I cant remember the last one!
I usually do but it seems like a blur

they def. were NOT calculation heavy... just a lot of harder questions than AAMC.. for AAMC everything seemed straightforward with a few here and there that i was unsure about.. on the real test, i marked atleast a couple each passage which is very unusual for me

HAHAHA yeah toilet!!! That was hilarious. PS was hella tricky!! On the aamc practice tests I usually finish 10 minutes early with time to go back and check--this time, I barely got to the end. Let's hope I didn't accidentally leave any question blank!! PS is probably my most consistent section (scored a 13 on nearly all the aamcs), but I'm telling you--I'd be happy with a 11 here.

VB was long, but the passages contents were at least somewhat ok. Thank god no dinosaurs or aliens. I hate reading stuff like that. I especially liked the passage about short stories. That was actually fun to read (okay...maybe it's because I am an English major here). 🙂

BS: ALSO difficult! The writers are getting really good at this & just can't cut you a slack, can they? They definitely crammed as many difficult and tricky q's in there as they can. I usually like doing the BS passages, but this one had loads of difficult questions. Orgo was not a piece of cake either. Anyway, feel bad for kids who have to take this after us...this s*** is getting harder and harder every year!!!

Overall...think the test was much more difficult than all the practice tests combined. And I did 'em all. So....let's keep the fingerz crossed and hope for the curve. hehe. CHEERS everyone! Good job on just being done!

Oh GOD!, no don't say that. Sheesh, thanks for ruining my dreams of becoming a physician. :scared: Well, lets hope the dumb it down a bit for my test year. XP That'd be awesome and I'd just laugh. Hmmmm So overall, how difficult do you guys think this test is? On a scale of 1-10. I hope you don't say 10 to the infinite power or something. XP That'd totally kill my dreams. If you guys can still remeber taking AP test back in High School the physics and biology, is it noticibly harder then the PS and BS portions of the test? Thanks for all the feedback. :xf:

Hi there. First time poster here...it's actually a little sad how my first post is dedicated to how my devastating my first mcat is. oh my god.

I took the 2pm one today and PS owned me big time. PS is usually my best section, averaging about ~12 ~13 on aamc. BUT... The passages today were difficult, but not as WTF as the discretes. WTF is with those PS discretes? I almost ran out of time and I had to blindly guess on about 4 questions. I usually have about ~10 minutes left on practice aamc ones. I wanna cry. AHHHH. Everything went downhill from here.
1. fishy
2. electric circuit/bouyant ball periodic cycle
3. ambulance (kinematics/doppler)
4. solar collector
5. organic contaminant binding affinity/pH
6. something about hess's law/electrochem
7.

Verbal is hard. The passages weren't bad, but the questions were tricky as hell. I felt like I was hallucinating the whole time I was taking VR probably because I was still shell shocked from PS. lol. I am really scared about this section. Again, time wasn't enough (as always......)

BS was rough. WTF is with the cholesterol stereochem question.....and all that molecular bio ****.
1. cholesterol
2. kindney stones
3. estrogen+red wine
4. some vaccine
5. siRNA
6. nucleosomes
7. neurotransmitter vesible behavior

I'm really hoping for a miracle, especially on verbal....I don't want to retake this piece of ****.

They have different tests for different administrations, even on the same day (ie. the 8am and 2pm tests will be different)

I totally feel you there man!! that's how I felt the first time I took the cbt MCAT. Just...WTF the entire time. Second time gets a little easier, but not much. 😛 Don't worry, I think we all thought PS was pretty hard, so there's hope!

09javcar: YES! Of course it's harder than the APs!! I have never taken AP Physics, but I doubt they will ask you to contrast a toilet fluid system with an electrical system! Remember it's a LOT more about comprehension of new and strange passage info!! And expect the MCAT to be harder than all the AAMC practice tests... X(

how great can the curve really be tho?

bold counted and everyone had. The other were experimentals from what I can see

1. cholesterol make
2. kindney stones

3. estrogen+red wine
4. some vaccine- killed vs altered
5. siRNA/ immuno assay
6. nucleosomes
7. neurotransmitter vesicle behavior
/kiss n run
8. mom and baby placenta

how great can the curve really be tho?

Since the curve is set when the test was written as opposed to how everyone did I doubt anybody's scores will really differ much from the practice exams so don't worry too much. Assuming you had the time to actually finish the thing.

PS - I bombed the physical sciences section Chemistry is usually my strong point, I rarely miss q's in chem on the practice AAMC's but for whatever reason I got really caught up in the H2 NO passage and had to rush the rest of the exam. I ended up with 2 passages left and 9 minutes remaining (had already finished discretes) so I choose not to read the passages and just try and attack the q's directly. Not sure how well that worked out, I know there were a couple that I was able to answer but for the most part I was only able to eliminate like 1 and then make a guess. I am usually getting about about an 11 on this section but am also finishing. The fact that I wasn't able to read the last two passages added with the weird chem passages has got me thinking I could possibly end up with a 7-8 on this thing.

VR - I can never seem to judge how well I do on this section - On practice exams whenever I feel like I did well I end up doing horrible, and whenever I feel like I did horrible I do well? Anyways, I average about a 10 and assuming that it will prob be the same here. Overall similiar to AAMC with the exception of some trickier questions.

BS - I didn't find this that bad - the only passage I had trouble with was the orgo one which was wierd and the kidney stone one since it was my last passage and I had like 4 minutes to read and answer. Think I did well on the others however. Overall I felt it was easier than the AAMC practice ones, for me at least. Usually average about a 12 so hopefully that holds.

I took the 9/04/09 test at 2pm. That test was ridiculous. The PS was horrible and unlike any AAMC or Kaplan test (and I have taken all of them). The VR was long and ambiguous, but manageable. The BS....I do not know what the **** they were thinking when they wrote that section. Too much hypothetical experimentation as well as organic chemistry. "Don't worry about Organic as much, the AAMC is reducing the organic and integrating more genetics." That was what my Kaplan instructor told me. Obviously, he was wrong. The Biology was by far the hardest section I have ever taken. I finished every section, though. God only knows how I did. But, it's a relief to know I was not the only one that suffered. 🙁

Too bad reservatol wasn't legit, it was one of the few I felt I had locked down lolol. I had a cell bio professor a few years ago who was obsessed with that stuff, and there ya go.. the copyright at the bottom of the passage said it was from Nature 2006 so (don't ask why I look at those things, sometimes its just there on the screen while I'm reading the last paragraph and I notice it).

You and I seem to have had the exact same experience. I got caught up on PS on that exact same passage. I decided not to read the last 2 passages. This is going to kill my score. Hopefully I did well enough on the other 2 sections to pull it up.

HAHA QFT

Agreed.

PS was intense. But HEY! I know how to fix my toilet now...best $220 ever...
I personally enjoyed the verbal section, but then again, I love VS in general. Didn't find it too bad...
BS was intense as well. Very experimental it felt.

And for the sake of adding on a smiley face...

my brain went down the toilet after seeing that diagram

it wasn't so bad of a test, but it was the nature of the beast... it had a ton of bizarre passages.

Yeah that sucks. I can't believe the very thing I have been fearing (not finishing a section) actually happened. I feel like its going to give me a complete mis-representation of my physical sciences strength.

So how do you think you did with the questions on those last two passages? Do you remember which passages it was for you?I don't remember the last one but know that one of my last 2 was about solar panels and intensity and I think the last one had to do with electric potentials of some sort.

I think I was able to get at least one question right which involved a calc about energy and I think there might of been at least 2 other questions in which I felt I was able to answer confidently without the passage. Other than that it was a blurr and alot of guessing.

im not going to discuss details but there was one question that has been annoying me untill today...

i teach chemistry so it's obviously my strong point, but i felt like some of the chemistry stuff today was straight "name" based and not even so much that but tricked up. I dont know if anyone recalls the one about cells, but they could have easily wrote galvanic instead of voltaic. voltaic is a name that is RARELY used to describe that cell, and i think i eliminated based on the fact that i had not seen that name in any of my books, or instructions.

i'm pissed.

but i may have gotten it right, it annoys me that i cant think what i put.

I actually finished the BS section with 10 minutes left, but I definitely was not feeling good about it. I went back in those 10 minutes and changed at least 2 answers, and was stuck on figuring out one or two others that I never did and after the section ended I was just tired. I'm never that tired after a practice full length, but this test had me exhausted. PS I finished with like 3 minutes left, and went back and changed some answers (which, I changed to the incorrect answer.. how lovely), and VR just sucked! Passages were nice, but the questions were very ambiguous.

Problems keep popping up in my head that I know I missed for sure in the PS section. Gotta stop thinking about the damn MCAT. Last night my friends got me plastered though so definitely wasn't thinking about the MCAT then lol, but the first things that popped in my head when I woke up (at 4pm) were mcat questions. I wonder how many questions you can miss and still pull a 10-11 on PS. I feel like I got a 7 or 8 in VR... and BS definitely had to guess on a couple questions.

Glad we're all agreeing that the test blew. Majorly.

A lot of those diagrams I just stared at and was like........ what the eff is this.

Ironically, when I was reading the toilet passage, I almost sh** my pants from how difficult it was.

Anybody take it in the AM and remember what the passages were?

PS -
1. Magnetism and the Earth (EK had a passage EXACTLY like this - SCORE)
2. Car Crash Momentum passage
3. Noise canceling headphones
4. the chemistry passage with the CaO enthalpy formation one... drawing a blank... there were like 3 or 4 different pathways...
5. the BaSO4 and BaCO3 Ksp experiment

BS -
1. Immunology - 1* and 2* antibodies
2. OChem with nicotine
3. OChem with extraction lab
4. the NO neurotransmitter one... can't really remember it
5. glutamate mouse hippocampus one. i think this was the first passage.

I can't think of the rest of um... if YOU can, post back!

There was the miRNA passage as well... my mind is drawing a blank. I remember some random discretes though.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It was a red herring to use an unfamiliar term.

hate to be a debby downer but- i too teach chemistry and not only is voltaic said alongside alvanic in textbooks but just about every mcat review book.

but still i always use the word galvanic

Oh you're not being a downer.

btw I'm not a chem teacher, the other poster is. By red herring I'm just saying its a test device which the unfamiliar term, whether it is a correct answer or not, most people will cross it out just because it isn't what they're used to. This is something that is done across the board in practice tests as well, and comes up in other test sections.

I want to vent and complain about the BS section...it is usually my fav. / best section, but yesterday's passages totally threw me off...

I usually have 10 mins left to check things and I usually get consistent 11-12s...but for yesterday's section...I felt like I left with a 6...

I thought PS was pretty bad and hoped to gain some ground with BS...but when I left I felt more confident about my PS than BS...I got totally owned... : (

The verbal was kind of long but seemed like avg AAMC so I wasn't too worried...The writings were considered easy topics...

looks like I got to take it again...sighhh

I was looking for a huge curve but read from AAMC site that the scale is already set...and is not based on everyone's performance yesterday... so yea : (

I am in a major depression right now...are you feeling the same way?!
