Hey, I was just browsing the mdapplicants.com site, and what caught my eye was that LARGE majority of those who are accepted are between 21-25 years.

Now myself, as an immigrant and a late starter, I will be applying for the first time when I'm 28. Then if I don't get in on the first time I'll be 29 on the next opportunity.

Anybody here who's been accepted a bit later than most? Wanna scare me?
What about my status as an immigrant? Will it play any part in getting accepted?

Oh, and Happy Valentines to everybody!

Well, I was 20 when I was accepted, but my mom was 43. My dad was your classic 22 year old back in the day.
No idea about immigrant status, though, as we're all US citizens.

A 28 year old isn't going to "get in" or "not get in" compared to 22 year olds because of his age. The reason you sometimes see lower acceptance %'s for students above 26 is that these students often have lower gpa/mcat's.

I think if you standardized for stats then you would see that age is not a factor, or that it is only a factor in extreme cases(under 20 or over 40) at certain schools.

I am a MS1 and I celebrated my 36th birthday yesterday. I am also not the oldest in my class. My classmates range in age from 21-45.

There are also quite a few students who have immigrated from other countries.
