In the CASPer test, each scenario includes two questions. Identifying the question type correctly gives you a guide on how to structure your response. I classify the question types as follows:
Situational questions ask what you'd do. Start by acknowledging how everyone involved might feel, then explain your specific actions and the reasoning behind each one. End with a summary as to why your response matters.
Judgment questions ask you to reason through an ethical dilemma. Acknowledge what makes the decision genuinely difficult, then analyse the options with sound ethical reasoning, grounding your thinking in principles such as fairness, integrity, or accountability.
Reflective questions ask about your feelings and insights. They're either based on a past experience or ask you to imagine how you'd feel in a hypothetical situation. For past experiences, describe what happened, how you felt, and what it revealed about you. For hypothetical questions, focus on how you'd feel and what that says about your values or tendencies.
Each question type has a different scoring emphasis. Knowing which one you're answering before you start means your response is structured around what the test is looking for.
