The latest meaningless "Best and Worst" survey of drug stores.
(At least it wasn't the usual suspects: Fortune or US News and World Reports)

Blasphemy,

Dr. M's pharmacy is not mentioned.

No credibility.

I cringed! I laughed! I continue to be thankful that I work in academia!

You have a job where the customers aren't allowed to complain about the ****ty job you do. Nobody is there to tell you that reading powerpoints to me is a waste of my time. The type of people that hold PharmDs that INSIST on people calling them Dr. SoandSo. I'd rather spend 50 years at CVS than another minute around the type of pretentious, narcissistic douchebags that run a school of pharmacy.

....

But that's just me.

No it's not.

According to my professors, reading powerpoint slides verbatim is the pinnacle of pedagogy and deserving of accolades and ass-kissing.

....and I have to register my astonishment that idiots like those could ever become professors.....😱😱😱

They actually said they received as many bad complaints as good with CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid that the called it a draw.

Wal-Mart was singled out as being one of the worst. My favorite quote is from Reader Lchickerall. This idiot said:

"I have never seen a pharmacy that takes an hour lunch with all the employees. They literally close the whole pharmacy, so everyone can take lunch togeter. Thus leaving no one to let you pick up your prescriptions, its ridiculous! .......They are so inconsiderate of your time! I will never use Wal-Mart pharmacy again."

Well excuse me Mr. ****ing ******. I forgot you are the most important person in the whole world and time needs to stop for you. **** you *******. I don't see you complaining about your Doctor's office closing for an hour and a half for lunch everyday. It is the pathetic losers like this that shop at Wal-mart.

Why you gotta hold back?? C'mon, tell us how you really feel!

I think my fave part of that quote was where he said that they post a sign telling you that they will be closed. THEY TELL YOU THEY'LL BE CLOSED. IT'S NOT A SURPRISE. THEY TELL YOU. RIGHT THERE. ON THE WALL.

Jerks.

Me too. I'm glad that I don't work at a school like that.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at your alma mater- not all schools operate like that.

LOL...I love it. It's funny because I used to work at both the Favorite (Target) and Least Favorite (Wal-mart) at one time....and I promise you, that quote brought back some memories. LOL. We closed at 1:00 for lunch and I used to have this one customer who would purposely come between 12:59-1:01 EVERY time. Then he would complain to the store manager, just because he knew the manager would give him a $10 gift card. Every freakin month....UGH!!!!!!!!! Like there isn't a sign posted. Next time, they should do a survey of which pharmacy has the WORST CUSTOMERS. I promise you Wal-mart will be at the very top...with no competition! LOL

If you give the Rx in 15 minutes, customers will complain it's not 10 minutes. If you do it in 10 mins, then they'll complain it's not 5 mins. If its 5 mins, they'll complain that you didn't instantly materialize the drugs at prescription drop off.

There's some customers that no matter what you do you cannot make them happy.

Exactly! No matter what you do people will bitch and complain. At my pharmacy the wait time we tell people starts at 30 minutes. We do it for the exact reason you state above.

It's very weird that pharmacist always get flack for just taking lunch like everyone else should be allowed to do.

CVS has problems paying employees correctly all the time. If you don't catch their mistake, you don't get paid. They will also just not pay you.

Examples:

For union stores. Last few weeks, the company ignored the union contract about raises and did not input them, although it is shown on the pay stub, just not reflected in the check. Yes, they will report it correctly on one end and then not pay you, so if you didn't catch it, you don't get paid.

Apparently floaters have to constantly make sure that their info and pay is correct because it takes forever (weeks/months) to get the money.

For the stores in SoCal, they used to pay our vacation on our anniversary date. So if your anniversary is Sept, you get paid the vacation money you earned this year in Sept. This year they decided to pay us when we take our vacation instead of waiting for the anniversary. Guess what, if you took your vacation BEFORE your anniversary date, you don't get paid (this happened to 3 people at our store).

The only way to get paid for vacation is to take it AFTER your anniversary or wait until next year 2011. Let say the last time you got paid for vacation was last year in sept 2009, so if you wait until next year sept 2011, the company just avoided paying you vacation for 24 months.

That's funny, never having worked in a pharmacy, I actually agree with this person. It's just lunch! Why do all the pharmacists have to eat together so that no one's working? This is not high school, it's a business! You guys are all biased. If I was that customer I would be saying the same thing. And having a sign that says CLOSED doesn't mean it's okay.

Is this a joke? "All the pharmacists" means the ONE pharmacists on duty. The pharmacy closes so that the ONE pharmacist on duty can have a proper lunch. Although I do think the lunch issue gets blown out of proportion, it's not wrong for the pharmacy to close so the pharmacist can have a proper lunch.

It depends on how the pharmacy operate. They probably have only 1 pharmacist that is on duty at the time, so when he/she goes on lunch, they have to close.

It actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it, even if you don't know all the details. Even if that pharmacy somehow stay open, without that pharmacist, they can't really operate. So it makes more sense to just close the place for an hour and have everyone take a lunch at the same time.

Most pharmacies only have 1 pharmacist at one time unless its an extremely busy stores. At the store I interned with the pharmacist only get a half an hour break, so he just finish all the scripts within half an hour and go for lunch. During that break, we just put all new scripts time about an hour or two and don't do any waiters.

Our store has a opening pharmacist at 8am and another to close at 10pm during the weekdays. They schedule it in a way where the morning pharmacist goes on lunch when the closing one gets in to avoid that. Although during the weekends, there is only 1 for the day because we close early. So in this event, we just tell people that the wait time is an hour, and pretend to be very busy with a lot of waiters...😉

If everyone cared about lunch so much, why not have a relief pharmacist come in for 1 hour to cover lunch? Make it part of the job description. Or just close down for an hour, it's not the end of the world.

Do you think someone is willing to come in to work 1 hour? Would you be willing to do that? Factor in things like driving time, gas and taxes and your wage for that 1 hour goes down very fast.

Well if it's only one pharmacist, then I guess Walmart is to blame for not hiring more or organizing it better. The post quoted the woman saying, "They literally close the whole pharmacy, so everyone can take lunch togeter" so I assumed there was more than one.

So does mean I should get a job at Walmart then? 🙂

Maybe you should look for a job and see what real pharmacy is like. The whole pharmacy is closed down because without a pharmacist in the pharmacy, nobody is allowed to be in the pharmacy. That being said, Walmart usually doesn't close down because they have 2-3 pharmacists working except on maybe a Sunday when it's slower and only one pharmacist is on duty.

Definitely reality check.

I worked at a Walmart pharmacy as a tech for 5 years and there usually was just one pharmacist on duty at all times. And on every Tuesday only one pharmacist would work the entire day. That was a 12 hour shift! And the lunch was only for 30 minutes. So I would like to see customers of Evil-Mart work a 12 hour shift with only a 30 minute lunch & no other breaks. :annoyed:

aaahhhhhahahhahahahahahahahahhahha

Oh I think I may have hurt something from laughing too hard.

Doesn't Walmart lure patients in with $4 generics and then purposely have pharmacists fill prescriptions painfully slow so that customers will have to shop longer? And this is why Walmart is so adamant about giving their pharmacists lunch breaks when not every state mandates them?

I blame the big chains for this one. They come out with shorter wait times to compete with each other and now it is expected from every retailer. If we all just said a 1 hour minimum people would have no choice but to accept it and the bitching would stop. People will wait longer for a cheeseburger at Chili's, than they will for their script. It's really sad.

Not true, I have seen many who close down even when they have multiple pharmacists on duty.

What makes it worse is that other pharmacies and/or MDs cannot contact them. You have no idea how annoying it is when you need info from Walmart and find out they're 'closed' for an hour. Please, it's not that hard to stay open, everyone else does.

And I worked for one of the worst pharmacies in the country and they're not on the list. Then again they are an independent...

Hmm...I find that really hard to believe, only because I know Walmart DM would not allow that to happen. Surely someone would complain already if it was a common, daily practice.

We don't call the MD's office during lunch hour either, so what is the big deal of closing an hour for lunch at Walmart. I can understand why a customer would not understand that concept, but coming from someone who is in the profession?? This is the reason why we all don't get to close down for lunch.

I've worked with three former Walmart PICs, they all completely closed for lunch no matter how many were working.

The thing is, you call at lunch you can still get a nurse or receptionist to have basic questions answered. Many of the times I just need someone to reverse something, which takes all of 2 seconds, but because they're closed I have to wait an hour.

Where is this? Walmart only closes for lunch when there is ONE pharmacist on duty...

If anyone doesn't like Wal-Mart closing for an hour a day to enjoy a lunchbreak... maybe they shouldn't patron a store that has a pharmacy designed as a loss leader instead of a profit maker. You get what you ask for, $4 dollar generic lovers.

Isn't there a saying for this?

Fast, Accurate, Cheap

Pick 2, that's what you get for your prescription.
