This is a real genre now. Personally, I can only stomach the best. Zdogmd. Undercovergunnaz(sp?). In my opinion, you have to have a sophisticated sense of humor and be clever and of course have the skills to execute. These are not that common in med school.

I'm not inclined to take a Paul Mooney line on racial authenticity. But he does have a point. I don't need to see medical students taking themselves seriously as rappers. The white dude in the video had the right approach in owning his ridiculousness as an MC.

It's just painful to see most of these. But the best certainly are great comedy. This one doesn't cut it. Med students making a rappy video is just not funny....unless it is and thus exceptional.

Problem is this isn't what a "gunner" is. It's not someone who works hard and excels. It's someone who compromises relationships to get ahead. A gunner would rather get his A by making everyone around him tank the test than actually know his stuff. Basically it's the old joke that you don't have to be able to outrun a bear, you just need to outrun the other campers, except that a gunner is the guy who also ties the other campers shoe laces together.

Dozens of ways to be a "gunner" ( although you shouldn't want to). Ask them difficult questions during presentations to make them look foolish in front of attendings, know tidbits about their patients better than they do for no useful reason other than to make them look bad on rounds, volunteer them for undesirable tasks, circulate useless materials you claim are extremely helpful so people waste their time, hide useful library/shared resources once you've used them, play mind games to psych people out before the tests, convince people they are studying way too hard so they ease up, order them pizzas at 3am the night before a test, that sort of thing.

OK, but the video is still dope. Lol. They looked like they had fun doing it, and it was fun watching it. Love the rolling pizz scene.
