How do you feel about the 2008-2009 cycle?

Hey guys,

I'm wondering how everyone feels about the cycle as a whole, now that all of the major decisions have been made and waiting hell (part 2) begins for the waitlisted crowd. Anyways, I hope everything went wonderfully for everyone!

Who doesn't love a good poll?!

I chose "Wonderful! Things went better than I ever could have dreamed and I got into my top choice".

But, it was a bit more stressful than I anticipated... I personally thought it was a tough year... but then again, it's my first time (and last time, thankfully) that I've applied, so I can't really compare it to other cycles...

Just glad it's over (for me at least)🙂

👍 I agree - it was much harder than I thought it would be. Than again, I like phospho have nothing to base it. Being one and done in this setting feels amazing 😎

EDIT: Hey phospho, what ever happened to jurassicpark? He/she was hilarious...
 
It went well. I didnt get any of my top 3 choices...but i got into some other of my top choices.
 
LoL I'm not from this cycle, but my cycle wasn't over until July 31... so to me this seems very early to be asking 😛
 
i chose "Great! I didn't get into my dream school but I found an even better place for me" ...though i do think it went better than expected and wrapped up alot quicker than expected i had been hoping that at least one of my "reach" schools would've given me an interview. not sure if the school i will attend will be "better for me" than my "dream" school because i didn't get to visit my "dream" school...not that i think i had a "dream" school...i think it's just, whether we like it or not, we are influenced by rankings and before the process started i was hoping to get into a highly ranked private school. i can't complain though...i'll have minimal debt and really enjoyed my visit at both schools i've been accepted to.
 
I picked the wait list hell option, but I'm really happy I'm in somewhere!

Great! I didn't get into my dream school but I found an even better place for me.

Worked out for me. Would have liked to interview at the rest of my state schools, but I will definitely take what I have been able to achieve and run with it.
 
I chose Great!

There were some bumps in the road (had problems with my LORs, had to take the MCAT 3 times), but I had more success than I thought I would. I got to interview at some great places, actually got to turn some interviews down, and got into some great schools. 🙂

I am so blessed to have gotten so much med school love this cycle. I didn't get into my super dream school but I have some awesome choices and I'm sure I'll be happy wherever I end up.

For me this is totally true; I've been WL'd at what I thought would be my top choice heading into the cycle, but I was so totally blown away by the school I'm ultimately going to probably attend at the interview that I couldn't be happier 🙂

I chose the same option as Chad. I'm somewhere between the "Good" and "Great" options. I like DS enough that I turned down a couple recent interviews (which I didn't think I would ever do pre-cycle) but it would have been nicer to have a few more acceptances to choose from or have had interviews at my dream schools.
 
Do you think this is representative of the total SDN population or are people just less likely to come on this site right about now if they don't hold acceptances?

Or is it that most SDNers just do that great in the application cycle?

oh noes! So many confounding factors to consider...:scared:

i'm in waitlist hell now, and i know that i've stopped reading school specific threads for the schools i'm waitlisted at, just because it was increasing my anxiety... so it very well may be skewed.
 
Before yesterday, I'm not sure what my answer would have been. I was shocked that I got multiple acceptances but wasn't thrilled with any of the schools and was really conflicted about where to go.

But UCSD acceptance changed my tune!

Yeah, respondant bias is always an unavoidable issue...

I have another option from those listed above.

I got accepted to a DO school, but I am still waiting to see in about 5-7 weeks whether I got into an MD school.
 
I put Great. I got waitlisted at my top choice, but I'm entirely impressed with the school I'll be attending (and especially ecstatic about my future classmates). I honestly think I wouldn't be happier anywhere else! Yay for polls, LET! 👍
 
I picked Wonderful, got into my first choice.

Although, my top choice did change a lot during the cycle, but ultimately I'm happy with where I'll be headed this Fall.
 
i picked the wonderful option, even tho UCI wasn't my "top choice" at the beginning......i knew during and after interview day that it was where I wanted togo to school (it was also my last interview).....it should be an interesting 4 years. 😍
 
I think im somewhere bw the Good and the Great. Got into, not my top choice, and not a school I ended up liking better than my top choice, but one I, think, I will really like.
 
I'm somewhere between good and meh. I'm really excited about where I'm going, but the cycle definitely turned out worse than I had hoped.

Yeah, it definitely depends on what part of the cycle you're talking about...I did beyond my wildest dreams compared to my expectations at the beginning of the cycle, I did a little worse than I thought I would mid-cycle, and overall I'll have no idea how I feel about this until May 15th rolls around.

It's a rollercoaster.

I picked "wonderful", but I wish blessed was up there because I am blessed beyond belief! I got into the school of my dreams!
 
I chose bad. I should have applied to more schools. I think my numbers are too good for how few interviews I have gotten and for the fact that I still don't have an acceptance. I haven't determined what the problem seems to be other then the number of schools. But I guess I can chose the waitlist hell option too

I was honestly afraid that I wouldn't get in anywhere let alone my top choice! 😀

I'm glad to hear many others seem to be happy with their results as well.

my feelings exactly. I was surprised to get an interview, let alone an acceptance to my top choice 😀 Although it was stressful, the cycle has definitely been wonderful for me.
 
This cycle was a blast. I didnt really have a 'top choice' but I got into some pretty decent places, and I just found out today that i'll be graduating w minimal debt so thats freaking awesome!!!! This cycle was DEFINITELY better than the last!!!
 
Not good, but not waitlist hell... Just anxioius to get to May 15th and get my final decisions from Creighton, VCU, Pitt, and Miami.
 
Wonderful, and profoundly relieved as well. I'm still waiting to hear from my state school, because Tulane's COA makes my soul want to shrivel whenever I think about it, but as far as non-UMass schools are concerned, it was definitely one of my top choices!
 
I'm very happy about how the application has gone for me. I got into a school where I thought my best case scenario was a waitlist.

I'm not gonna lie, though. I am kind of envious of the posts that I've read like: "I just got a full tuition scholarship at XXXX SOM."

I'm really happy for them, and hate them a little at the same time.

But really, this cycle went much better than I thought it would.
