I'm soooo sorry. That must be terrible. Lady Gaga is just awful. Awful combined with sad. I can't even describe my disdain for her.

Actually, Lady Gaga comprises a respectable percentage of my iTunes library, I am (somewhat) ashamed to say. How dare you? Just kidding. About being offended. I do have a lot of Lady Gaga's music. Yep, I do. :p

He looked at me and finally realized I actually knew what I was talking about. Not just another patient confusing lateral dislocation with subluxation of patella.

My absolute biggest pet peeve is people treating me as if I am an idiot. I really, really hate that. And it happens in medical settings quite a bit. I know I certainly don't know very much yet but I do know my diagnoses and why I am taking the meds I take. I realize there are patients out there who just don't get it (I see them at my job) but I am not one of them and I don't think I come across as clueless. <sigh>

Maybe when we are finally physicians, StephBee, people will stop treating us this way? :)

On to more important things, what is with all the Lady Gaga hate? ;)

Some night, I completely forget I'm applying to med schools, stay up late goofing around on youtube or something and having a nice, relaxing time. Then, there are the far more frequent nights where I'm up till 3am worrying and researching this and that. I have no idea how so many of us do this every year. Every time my email makes it little blip sound signifying that Ive got mail, my heart skips a beat. And, without fail it seems, it's Borders sending me some coupons :p

For me, it makes it better just knowing that there are other people going through the same thing, and people that have made it through before, and people that I might be able to help through it. So I totally understand where you're coming from. But for me, it's Barnes and Noble, not Borders :)

Actually, Lady Gaga comprises a respectable percentage of my iTunes library, I am (somewhat) ashamed to say. How dare you? Just kidding. About being offended. I do have a lot of Lady Gaga's music. Yep, I do. :p

I don't think it's bad for people to like her. As far as current pop artists go, she's probably the best for making catchy songs. My distaste for her comes from the fact that the music she performed before she became Lady Gaga (the kind of acoustic piano type stuff) is one of my favorite things to listen to. Going from that to something that a computer spits out just makes it hard for me to listen to her. Totally understandable move, since it makes way more money, but still. I like Stephanie Germanotta way better than Lady Gaga.

Wow. Thanks. That made my night

It's unfortunate and I hate it too. But the general populous is just so stupid that I think lots of docs by default just assume everyone is completely clueless. The more patients I interview the more I realize why they do it.

I am tempted to annoy the old lady next door by turning on some Indie rock and doing yoga in the backyard, while allowing my dog to run around yapping.

Good neighbor relationships ftw.;)

I'm not entirely sure where all the Lady Gaga hate comes from. Aside from being one weird chicka, I really enjoy her music.
I have such an eclectic music collection. I think I'm the only person I know who went to see Shania Twain in concert and loved it (given, I was 9 but still! i have her autograph on a ticket stub. The woman is amazing. She was singing, dancing AND signing autographs :p)

See thats why I love my orthopedist at home. He knows taht I'm premed (gives me soooo much crap for going to Syracuse cause he spent time at Hopkins, a big rival for our lacrosse team.) and that I've done my research and know what i"m talking about. Yay for great doctors. Although he does have the ortho attitude to an extent but he's got a great bedside maner.

I have been studying genetics for almost 14 hours except for lunch/dinner breaks and I want to cry. I usually don't cram like this but I was at a conference last week (i.e. vacation) so I didn't study then, and then I spent all weekend studying for yesterdays physics test. Blahhhhhhhhh so tired.

I actually like Lady Gaga

The problem was that 1 - the sound was up WAY too loud, 2 - they kept playing it over and over again, because 3 - I think they were using it in some kind of game. Like dance dance revolution or rock band or something. It was.....awful. And loud. And bang-y.

jeeze, what kind of genetics class are you taking?! I never studied more than an hour. Then again, my genetics class was wicked easy.

I don't think I've EVER spent 14 hours studying for anything. Even the MCATs...(spent like 3 hours a day for about a month. Clearly it wasn't enough  Hindsight, right!)
Maybe orgo. Spent like 3 days studying for orgo. Maybe 14 hours total.

I've been on a Seether kick lately. Been listening to their discography for the past few days straight...I think that's the sign of a great band. I don't think I could listen to gaga for days straight...

I think they both signify a certian lifestyle. It's nothing new, it's spread across our tvs every day but the fact that their famous makes them cannon fodder for everything people think is wrong with our society.
I mean, as much as a shudder to say this, look at Miley Cyrus. She's turning 18 but people still expect to her to act like a 14 year old. Does she ever get to grow up and embrace her sexuality/feminity?

VikingLegacy,

I applaud your morals. I'm glad to know there are other people out there who don't think a great weekend is getting drunk and having casual sex. Though I am not offended by Lady Gaga. She is an entertainer and that's different.

I know right! Our stupid profs put DNA replication, all DNA repair mechanisms, the cell cycle and regulation of the cell cycle on one exam and that doesn't sound like much but we have to know every single detail, protein names, subunit names, and the experiments that were done to prove everything. And so I had to cram that all into 14 hours in one day and like 4 hours this morning of studying... but the good news is I think I totally just rocked the exam :D Now I'm going to catch up on sleep :)

Ive got a big anatomy lab practical on friday so i'll be up late studying...just got home from work.
We're dissecting cats and we've got to know like 180 muscles. I guess it's a good thing I'm realy good at memorizing this but it's stupid becuase we had a quiz on monday that was another 180 human muscles. and sadly there's very little overlap.:(

in the meantime: Top Chef, Just Desserts! And then mythbusters :p

Just gotta wait a bit to catch up with the other shows I missed while at work. (Hellcats, Project runway etc). tv's kind of my addiction. Specially during the fall when there's so much good tv on :-D (House, NCIS, Grey's anatomy etc. )

I know what you mean, and it really is not healthy. When i would commit myself to watch an entire season in 24 hours, I would be like i got to stop, but I couldnt. For the better or for the worse they are finished with it.

Pssh, is half of the stuff we do as pre-meds healthy? Nope! And is it going to get better in med school? Nope!

Dexter is wayyy better back to back. This season so far has kinda sucked. I mean, I was intrigued to see how he was going to handle being baby daddy and dad to astor and cody and instead, the writers shipped them off to grandmas house? wtf?
And I love Julia Stiles but her part is so lame. *soooo lame* It's kind of like weeds: I haven't seen an episode in like 2 months because I was just bored with the story line. Shane killed whatsherface and they go on the run...cliche much? With Lost, 24, and Monk over (and dollhouse cancelled), that leaves House, Chuck and a few other decent shows here and there but they premiered like 1000000 new shows this season and there's only like 2 (guilty pleasure: Hellcats and The Defenders) I can get into. I was so bummed they cancelled Trauma (though, that was probably because I loved watching the show and yelling at the screen that they were doing it wrong. ABCs man, ABCs! And who does CPR like that, really?!) :p

God, I'm a dork.

Weeds is SO AWFUL!!!!!! I liked the first few seasons but then things went way downhill. I tried to watch the last few episodes of this season and I had to turn it off. It was UNBEARABLE.

 Thanks guys!

This has been a really weird week. You know how sometimes you feel invisible? (I rotate through like 5 different jobs and volunteer positions, so I feel like no one notices me much at the moment) Well somehow this has been an odd week of recognition.

Last night I was at a meeting for one of my volunteer positions and I helped the guest with something. He stopped the meeting and said how much he appreciated it and how it took such intuitive empathy to anticipate what he needed and when. After the meeting, someone who I didn't think I had had very significant interactions with came up and said "Cougs, that was so nice of you to help with that....that was just so YOU!"

A couple of days before that, a person who I don't interact with much at the hospital found out I got into med school and came down 3 floors to congratulate me and tell me how she knew I would get in because I am so amazing.

Then a girl I took Calculus with last year ago was working in the shoe shop I was in tonight....and she remembered me and went on and on about how nice I was and how everyone in class loved me (I guess it didn't hurt that I brought in pastries for my birthday:D)

And I got a letter from a patient telling me how much she appreciated me being with her last week.

And tonight I was made a mod....and other than in the 2015 thread, I never really thought anyone noticed anything I said:)

All of you humans are quite lovely this week  :D

Well, I guess its over for me tonight!

Now, I'm going home to sleep, go to the gym, and then I'm off to the beach (and yes, its cold outside).

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Whatup Yoda!

I find that jelly beans cure burn out.

I'm on call at the hospital...per usual on the weekends. Just sitting and waiting. Watching "Sleeping With The Enemy" on Netflix:)
