The Late Night Thread

Yep, Tapepsi, I am still awake.

I'm still here. Is everyone else still out there? May 21st is officially over and it looks like the world did not end. 😉

Still alive in the Chi!

But apparently (I had to Google this), only the most devout followers would be saved today. Everyone else now has to suffer 5 months of wrath, and then the world will officially end on October 21, 2011.

And if THAT doesn't kill us, then there's always December 2012.

Had a sudden urge/motivation to start working in a psychology lab (I enjoy psychology), so I just emailed a few professors who had sub-fields that interested me. I emailed 5, Ill be happy to hear back from 2. I like to aim low 🙂

Could someone explain to me why the specula sizes are small, medium, large, and "snowman"?

Well...snowmen are pretty awesome so I can see the logic there...

I'm kidding I have no clue. I thought Snowman was a specula brand?

electrophilic addition and aromatics, someone please shoot me now :bang:

Up late on the Internet listening to Kesha. Back to work in the AM after my week off. Of course, I messed up my sleep schedule so am not tired.

Sleepless on the Late Night thread.

I really don't want to go to work tomorrow. Why wasn't this weekend longer?

So, according to your MDapps you are going to med school this fall. 🙂 When are you quitting your job? My last day is July 15. Classes start July 25 for me.

End of July is what I'm thinking as my last day of work, although lately I've been wondering if I can stay on payroll longer to snag one more paycheck... it's both going to be a long and short two months.

Mauberly,

I wish I could leave my job earlier than July 15 but I have a house with associated bills to pay. 🙁

I am an older nontrad so, no kidding, I have been in the same job for literally ten years. It is research so it's very redundant work. I am so looking forward to doing something new!

its the way to go man. i'm just snacking on random soft stuff until i can finally go to sleep. i just go my wisdom teeth out so i can go too hardcore tonight

yeah it does. all because of one tooth was impacted. they had to take that one out which means that had to take the other tooth above it, but of course i just can't have one set of wisdom teeth, so they decided to take them alll out (-____-). freakin dentist

I feel your pain. hope all goes well 👍

Hey Doc of the Walk,

Yeah, I slept most of the day myself. Which means my 6:30 AM alarm is going to hurt. Hope your mouth heals up quickly and you are back noshing hard core again soon!

I am up drinking Coke Zero and eating watermelon.

Are you punishing yourself for something? 😛

Hey guys, I haven't been on here for a while. What's going on?

Currently midnight and I've wrapped up my AMCAS application for June 1st. I felt a sense of relief that I now have some downtime between the primary and secondary applications. I picked up the closest book to me ("Survivor" by Palahniuk) and just started reading with "Garden" by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs playing in the background. I recommend both the book and the track 😎

Thanks guys, all seems to be going well for the most part, minimal swelling, no pain. I think my sleep schedule was screwed up the day of the surgery because that whole day, I pretty much slept.

Good thing is, I don't volunteer until 1, so even if I do stay up, I'm not that screwed over

Same. This is the longest I've been doing something outside of grade school, but even then, things were new from year to year back then.

Taking the day off work today. 🙂 Plan on sleeping in though, heaven knows, I'll never get my sleep schedule back on track for school at this rate.

Getting ready to go up to bed, listening to Lady Gaga.

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly happened in this clip? Classmates no likey story time? 😕

PS done, Work and Experiences done.

One more look through tomorrow, and I'm off to the races!

So I actually planned on going to bed early tonight, but a couple of hours ago I was petting my dog and when I stood up (and extremely fast for some reason) I hit the back of my head off of the edge of my counter. It was bleeding and I was worried about a concussion but according to my mom (who is a nurse) checked my pupil dilation and said I was fine. Still...the back of the head is not the best place for a bump especially when you're trying to lay down on it.

Hey, Tapepsi,

Be careful for the next few days since sometimes these things get worse a day or two later. A few years ago I smacked my head really hard on the car as I was leaning in to get something out of the car. I was okay until about 30 hours later when I got a headache and earache that lasted for days. My PCP wouldn't see me in his office and made me go to the ED where they did a neuro exam and said since I wasn't on blood thinners and had no LOC they didn't need to do any tests. I really believe I had a concussion because for about a week I just felt a little "fuzzy" mentally.

Ah no! I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 Hope you're okay...definitely continue to monitor it like Helen said. It's a good thing you have a nurse nearby 🙂. As a very accident prone person, I know how to feel. Here's to hoping you get some sleep tonight :xf:

On my end, wrapping up my primary application. Who knew the work and activities section was so hard to fill out?! The 700 characters makes it worse. Hope to submit in the next day or two, and then its back to MCAT studying. It's nerve wracking to think that if I don't make the most of these next 6 weeks, I won't be going to med school next year. 🙁

Scenario: I've saved enough money to take EITHER an awesome vacation OR get lasik before med school starts in August. Help me out y'all 🙄

The vacation could be nice/relaxing given that I've been working pretty hard over the last year or so (80 hour work weeks). It's obviously important to relax and enjoy your last summer before med school but lasik seems like a rational and long-lasting investment that would continually pay out.

Thoughts?

PiBond,

This might be outdated info but years ago I read an article that drs usually don't get LASIK because of the small but possible chance that something could go wrong, mess up their vision, and thus mess up their career.

I know this sounds terrible coming from a med student to be in 8 weeks but I am a sorry wimp when it comes to surgical procedures. Unless I am dying, I'll probably never agree to even having minor surgery performed on me.

Messing around on SDN for the first time since finals.
