I have conveniently solved this problem, kautionwirez. I don't have an SO. Sometimes it gets lonely but I also realize it puts me in a great position to start med school with no distractions.
I know people, though, who have spouses who are not in this field and don't understand why they need to spend so much time on medicine. It can certainly be a source of conflict.
I think if I ever did find someone to marry it might be better if he were a physician, too, so at least he would understand the situation better. Though I know everyone on SDN feels you shouldn't have a SO in medicine.
I agree, if I didn't have a spouse, I would consider a spouse who is a physician. And I know how much time I will have to put in medicine (especially specialties I am interested in). 🙁
But I do love my spouse who has been with me every step of the way. And she has been a pain/nuisance at times... (My gut feeling thinks I could have done better on the MCAT by 3+ points). 😱
Wise men say "only fools fall in love". Guess I'm a fool. 😳
