Alright, so many of us are in the same boat, right?

We all have to take this exam, and lets be honest, it sucks. It's a roadblock and it's annoying. But we HAVE to do it, so we might as well enjoy it.

At the same time, I think having a 'support group' would be helpful. So why not post about MCAT trials/tribulations here?

Did you have an awesome study session? Grasp concept that you were having trouble with? Beast that practice test?

If so, post!

Did you have a crappy study session? Are you failing miserably at figuring out something seemingly simple? Just get frustrated at that practice exam you just took?

If so, post!

ughh just took AAMC5 and got a 4 on BS! Wth, I got 10s on 3 and 4! There was so much organic chem on there and I got it all wrong.

I heard the newer actual MCAT exams have a lot less orgo, anyone know about this?

Heard that too. But a friend that I know she got half like 1/3 Orgo on the real thing and another friend that I know got only one passage on Orgo that was last year summer.

Had a great study day today.... Got through about 6 Bio passages with 90%+ correct! I have really be focusing on the bio sections lately as that seems to be my weakness. I just recently decided to start up on here posting so we will see if it helps me stay on track! peace

Pushed my exam back to may...

Going to apply next year now. Going to concentrate on getting stuff together for this fall for now. Wohoo!

Um. Mine had 3 passages last year. I would study the orgo and get it down. It's silly reason to lose so many points. I got a 10 because I was weak on orgo. Would have done much better otherwise.

I did another 6 biology passages today and took a EK verbal exam. Did well, but I am not sure how accurate these things are when compared to the AAMC exams. I think the questions are too detail focused like the GS, at least thats what I have heard about the GS. I have plenty of time until my exam, but I wish there were some better verbal practice exams out there besides TPR.

Anyways, another day of studying done!

So AAMC 4 yesterday...
I'd taken it before, but it was a year ago.

I got a 30 (10/10/10). I got a 29 last time (9/10/10). Missed the 11 in PS by one questions.

I'm going to review the exam tonight. I still have some gaps in content and still need to memorize formulas and a few mechanistic things/content. I'm probably going to do that for another week or so before I dive back into doing practice problems full time with a little bit of review on the side.

In any event, this isn't a bad baseline to start with I suppose.

3 months to go...

May is still super early. Y not this year

I'm going to be working abroad for a year (maybe more) starting this fall. My adviser at school suggested that it might be best to apply after having worked there for a year.
We'll see.

You will have to be here to do interviews I guess and they are usually spread out. Working abroad, sounds exciting!

I would have come back for interviews.

Yeah. I"ll be in Ethiopia for 1-2 years.

Just reviewed AAMC 4.

In PS I made a few stupid mistakes. If I could eliminate those, I would have had a 12.

VR was okay @10.

BS... I really have a lot of work to do with orgo. That's what's really holding me back. Really shooting to get a good hold on that and dial down BS content.

C'MON!

I reviewed my Verbal exam from yesterday ( really two days ago, I forgot to post yesterday) and did well. Happy with the progress on the verbal section so far. Did 10 passages PS, 5 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon. Things seem to be going pretty well in that regard. I have upped my time spent doing the Hat trick, although the verdict is still out in regards to whether or not I find that to be beneficial. I am going to take a light day today, I don't like Wednesdays for some reason....

peace out!

Light day today... but yesterday I ended up hitting it hard even though I thought I wouldn't. I did 5 bio passages, and 3 chem passages. Reviewed the verbal exam in detail and did 30 minutes of hat trick. The hat trick thing is a really good idea. I highly recommend it!

Ughh guys, last 2 weeks I have done next to no mcat stuff :/ Was my 21st brithday, and 2 midterms.

Good thing I started Sn2ed schedule 1.3 months early and was a bit ahead :]

Last week, I haven't been checking in much, but I have been working hard. I finished two more EK exams, I am taking them from the 2002 version of the book to build up endurance and then going to switch over to the TPR hyperlearning book. Still weak in this regard... wish there was more out there. Did a total of 10 BS and 6 PS passages over the last 3 days. Things are going well...

I haven't had the chance to do much Biology only because my TBR Bio books did not come in, so they came in last week and I started out on Book 1 Physiology, I read the chapter, and did Phase 1. First of let me say that in my entire undergrad career (currently in my third year) I have not had much physio, I've had a little exposure to it in Bio1/Animal Bio but that was it, I've had just way more exposure to molecular biology.

After Phase 1 in book 1....I wanted to cry. It was pathetic, I've never done so poorly in my life on anything, one of the most depressing days of my life. I got over 50% of the questions wrong. I seriously considered changing my major at that point from Biology to Art (or something else).

Took me 2 days to shake that defeat off my shoulders, studied the hell out of those passages, and then did phase 2 and I did soooo much better (65% as compared to the <50% before).

It's really really hard for me to read the TBR gen chem chapters... it gets soooooo boring. I zone out like every other sentence. am I burning out? what should i do?

yeahhh TBR bio is WAYYY over the top....in my opinion its a waste of time im sticking with EK and for in depth review on a subject im weak on im using TPR...TBR really went overkill with those bio books reminds me of the cell bio book we use at my university... LOL

UGH these past few days were extremely dissapointing...I did so poorly (~50-65%) on phase 1 for the last 2 physics chapters, the last orgo chapter, and the last gen chem chapter 🙁 Normally I get around 75% but this...idk

I did a re-review of my bio notes over the last week and a half.

I'm going to go through them again and make some condensed notes/flashcards with some of the processes that need to be memorized.

I'm probably going to sit down and re-review orgo soon too and go through the EK book again. I'm ashamed to say but even after getting through TBR and the phase 1's, I'm still doing really bad with orgo. On aamc 4, it kept me from getting an 11 or 12 on BS.

I really need to fix that...

I am using EK bio for my stuff, although I do have a set of TBR from a friend that I use for the passages and an occasional look up if I am not getting the idea from EK.

I think some days are good some days are bad don't be too hard on yourself. Look at the bigger picture.

I have a really bad verbal exam yesterday. Not sure way, going to finish reviewing it today and then going to move on. It will be ok! Don't worry...

I love airports. Waiting around for my flight and I completed 2.5 bio chapters- read each one twice too. I am set for endo and the digestive system for sure!

Wow... I haven't posted in here for awhile. I have been staying up with the studying. Today I did another Verbal Practice test and 5 BS passages, they were all ochem stuff. Tomorrow I take a FL, just to see what my month of studying has gotten me.

Wish me luck!

I've had a week of exams, could hardly study for any mcat subject. Just have one more exam and then I am starting again, I am actually excited lol.

Took a break day today & I've got these topics left for content review! Ah, just wanted to share.

Chemistry
Phase Equilibria
Energy Changes in Chemical Rx: Thermochemistry
Electrochemistry
Light and Geometric Optics
Atomic Nucleus

Biology
Nervous system: Sensory Reception
Excretory System
Respiratory System
Skin System
Evolution: Speciation

Organic Chemistry
Molecular Structure & Spectra
Separation and Purifications
Lipids

My full length from Saturday went well. Not going to say what I got, but I am happy with the "progress." Although verbal is still lagging. Going to take a few more practice tests this week and see if that helps!

I took off from work yesterday and today to study.

I did a pretty big push on orgo basically working through the entire EK book in that duration. Just got one more section of questions to finish.

I'm annoyed through. With the half hour tests, I got 11's on chapter 3 and 4, but 8/9 on chapter 1 and 2. Not sure what's doing it. I'm doing the end of chapter questions now, and will finish/review them tomorrow, but I'm really hoping that it helps when I switch back to TBR.

Goals for the rest of the week are to:
-Finish EK Orgo and review everything
-Condense bio notes for mechanistic stuff (actin myosin binding, heart directionality, sperm maturation, ovulation, etc)
-Review formulas for physics/chem
-Taking a practice test this weekend.

Starting monday, I'll shift gears again and start doing TBR passages again. ~10 weeks of that and practice tests till the retake. I'm really glad I spent this time doing review, esp for orgo. Really really hoping it pays off...

My practice tests expire in april and my test is in may... I think I might have to do all of them (not 10/11) in the next month and then switch over to gold standard. I'll probably rebuy aamc 10/11 and retake those right before my exam. I think that's probably the best way I can think of making it work...

You should see if they'll give you like a 2-3 week extension and tell them your taking it in May.

Good luck! I'll start practice tests in a few weeks. !

Haven't posted in awhile, I have been busy, but my studying goes on. I might just start posting no a bi-weekly basis. We will see, anyways, I have done to full length practice tests over the last week, both went really well. I have done 20 BS passages, and 12 PS. It was a busy week, but scores are coming back and they are reasonably strong.

Ugh, I'm just going to release this thought and then let it go. So disappointed in myself for this morning. I essentially procrastinated for like 2 1/2 hours. Just reading blogs. Oh well, I guess it's Friday. So I'm just gonna do some review + 150 discrete questions from Q-bank and then call it a day. And then I'll chill out some more 🙂

Quite disappointed...been spending the last two days looking for apartments since my fiance got all pissy and when she's upset, she makes sure I am too. Has thrown off my studying like crazy and since she wants an expensive apartment, I had to go back to full time at a lab. On another note, I can't get passed the 10-11 barrier on my BR passages. Once I got a 12, but must've been a fluke 😀

Lol this happens to me on Friday nights as well. But today I manged to do some Orgo (module 2 in BR, so boring it was all isomerism) . By the way what Q-Bank do you do questions from ?

Time to get in on the action - May 31st test date, taking Kaplan FL #5 tomorrow, hoping to avoid careless mistakes on this one and jump up a point or two from #4. Then back to finishing TPRH workbook during the week.

Good study day today, at least so far. Got up early and did a practice verbal test. Still not scoring as well as I would like on that section, but I still have a few months I guess. PS and BS are going well, trying to do at least 5 passages a day when not taking a FL.

Which practice tests are you taking and when is your test date?

And on another note just took my 6th practice test (Kaplan FL #5) and finished a bottle of wine so I got drunk for the first time in forever. I always wait to look at the scores till the next day when I review it so I can just relax the day of.

Took AAMC5 verbal section and finished with 10 minutes left feeling like crap. Ended up one question away from getting a 10. I guess I'll take it.

FL went great in terms of PS and BS, but verbal is still my weakest point. I am not happy with that, but we will see if I can improve it some. Today, I am doing an in-depth review of yesterday's test and going to do a few extra passages, but nothing else.

Dear god, I'm behind. Stupid, stupid, stupid midterms. I've now been chained to a table at a Starbucks the entire day trying to catch up. Gotta love spring break as a pre-med.

haha any chance your from LA area, I'm the only one that I know that is also on Spring break!

Redoing some content review this week and going through notes I took and memorizing things along the way.

Taking AAMC 5 on sunday, then back to practice passages.

I wish my AAMC's didn't expire in early april... I'm probably going to have to rebuy 9, 10, and 11. Yuck.

I guess I'll get the gold standard ones to play with in the meantime.

7/7 on a BR bio passage = "I think I'm finally getting this stuff!"
But then...
3/7 on a BR bio passage = "Never mind, no self esteem for me..."

Good times.

Until...
7/7 on passage 3 = "Lemme off of this goddamned roller coaster! I can't take it anymore!"

So just what does the suicide rate among neurotic pre-meds studying for the MCAT look like?

Review went well of the test yesterday... its so boring, but it really helps get you into the MCAT way of thinking. I did a practice verbal exam (EK) it went ok. Better than the Full length, but I am not satisfied with my results.

At the rate I am going, I am going to test through all of my material before my July MCAT : ( I am going to try to slow down the pace and increase the quality of my Verbal practice. Hopefully that helps...

I know what you mean, only finished my 6th full length but it was a struggle to review it for some reason. Hopefully a week of spring break will bring me some renewed vitality and vigor for my studies.

Just pick up more practice, tbr FLS'S, AAMC Fl's, Goldstandard FL's, TPR science workbook, always more to do

Man, I really could care less about light and optics. Thin film interference is killing me....ugh. I hate it & worse, I have no idea what I need to about it. I'm so DONE with this topic....

Dear World,
I'm losing my mind.
That is all.

the part thats killing me is that ill study something today 3-5 days later im totally clueless about what i studied
