Hi,

What was the most interesting thing that u talked about at ur interviews. My friend went to the Stanford interview and he talked about basketball for an hour. It thought that was pretty cool.

I just had an interview where the guy asked me if I had been in love. Then we went on to talking about how great being in love is. He was a psychiatrist.

not to be negative, but i wonder why an interviewer would talk about basketball with an applicant for an hour instead of asking relevant questions to the application. maybe it was because the interviewer didn't have any pressing questions, or the interview was just a formality before accepting the student, but i would be a bit worried if my interviewer didn't talk to me about ME during the entire interview.

My odd path to med school.

That is exactly how my interview went. There were very few direct "interview" type questions. We basically just chit-chatted about random things for 40 min. I would say maybe 10 minutes of the interview was my telling them about myself. I am so confused as to how it went. We had a really nice chat, but little relevant info was given. I am hoping that they get most of their info from the application and the interview was just to see if I could hold a conversation with two strangers (which I would think is very important for a physician). I have been pondering/fretting over it since the interview last week.

This is the point of most interviews. They want to make sure you can communicate and that you have a life.

Good to hear! That was only the second time I have ever interviewed for something. The first time was for an RA position in the dorms where they asked a lot of directed questions. I got that job and it is highly competitive at my school due to the full-ride + some that RAs get....hopefully that means I can interview decently wel.

i talked a lot about mahler and mozart at one (a good 20mins of the 45min interview).

at another interview, different school, we spent about 20 minutes talking about NPR (in a 45min interview) and classical vs all talk vs classical+talk vs all jazz vs only morning edition+ATC and then all mixed music programming. 😀 i liked that interview. got in, too.

Yeah, I talked about Radiohead and David Lynch movies.

So if no questions in the interview are challenging is that a good sign?

Kuhn, Descartes, and Relativism . . . though not necessarily in the same order/conversation.

man, I gotta learn about something smart. Unless my interviewer wants to talk about girls, video games, and the NBA for 45 minutes.

To the ones that talked about philosophy / classical music. Do the interviewers broach these esoteric topics or do you?

What do you do if you know absolutely nothing about their far-fetched topic?

Oh, that's awesome GoodMonkey. Nothing like meeting a fellow NPR addict for a little camraderie!

Beastmaster, no need to worry. I'm a philosophy major so they might ask, "explain a philosophical argument.". They usually try to ask some probing questions about whatever it is in which you're interested. You never know where some conversations lead.

This was not the most interesting topic for me, but my interviewer was totally enthralled.

He asked me all about working on a ranch when I was little, and I told him about my first job which was holding the baggie that the "rocky mountain oysters" went into (have to keep the dogs and barn cats away from them) while we were processing new calves.

The interviewer was just completely fascinated that they assigned a five-year-old girl to hold the testicle receptacle:laugh: .
