We're in the final stretch of our MCAT studying and preparation.

Feel free to share your current practice scores and progress, keep up friendly discussion, and motivate each other!

Good luck to all :luck:

Yeah I got dumped too. I did well enough to get into the 7 schools I wanted so that'll teach her a lesson! Haha. congrats.

HAha! Same thing happened to me close to my 6/17 test. Hopefully I can teach a lesson in a month like the 2 of you.

Congrats👍

Haha goldendoor

I got the same exact spread. I don't think M will matter (unless your considering Canada ). But all jokes a side, be happy with your score. Most people can't break 30.

Could you guys help me out, I bombed the verbal. I got a:

13 physics
6 Verbal
13 bio

I have a GPA: 3.7 and scGPA: 3.83

This is my first time taking it. I have great experiences and rec letters. But will that 6 prevent me from gaining admission? Thanks for any help.

38Q! 14P 12V 12B. It's surprising because I thought PS was the hardest and felt good about the other two sections. Either way it's a big relief because I needed a good MCAT score to pair up with my 3.4...

Oh and the AAMC scores were pretty accurate, especially towards the end:
3,7-10 (in order): 34, 35, 37, 40, 39

Glad to be done with this test!

medic123

The AAMC claims a correlation between a <7 on your MCAT verbal and struggling with the USMLE. However, the best thing to do would be to call up school and ask them.

I am not sure if EVERY school has score cutoffs, at least not publicly posted, but some are a 7 or 8 minimum in each section. This is only your first try. You really need to bring up that verbal. Your science scores are solid enough that they'll probably be steady while you concentrate on verbal. Good luck!

got a 27L....really thought i bombed it so I'm happy with the 27 and im pretty sure I can get into DO and probably with med school in my state with it. BUT the L im a little worried about....

What do you guys think?

My breakdown was
PS: 9
VR: 7
BS: 11

I have to imagine the curve is wildly different on the actual test. I really, sincerely am shocked with the 13 I got in PS. I could count at least 5 or 6 I got wrong after the exam in that section (2-3 discretes) and I'm sure there were others I missed. I think the actual exam is really fluid in what is counted and what isn't, what's experimental and what is not. I think the PS section's difficulty was an outlier in terms of what I experienced on the AAMC practices and perhaps was curved more generously. I'm almost positive that was the case, it has to be...or else I'm just crazy.

damn, whats up with everyones account being on hold? lol.

Let me try to give my feedback

P.S. was BITING. I honestly wanted to cry. I always id well on the PS, understanding the concepts in the passage but some of the questions were like mind ****s. I was so confused walking into the first break. I also realized 2 questions I def. got wrong as soon as the timer ended and i started banging my head against the wall (literally) as I was walking out because it was so obvious.
AAMC AVG: 11
Expected: 9-10 🙁

VR: I'm a Comp Sci major so that computer passage was AWESOME. And since I had it first it def. set the stage going into the rest of verbal. I agree that some of the passages were ridiculous but overall I thought it was ok.
AAMC AVG: 12.5
Expected: 12

Writing: Topics were intersting! I really enjoyed them and it gave you a lot of freedom to do what you wanted. I never practiced or read about this section at all so we'll see
Expected: R? I have no idea

B.S.
HOLY MOTHER OF ORGO. I had 3 passages and 3 or 4 more discretes. I am not sure what was going on. I did have some genetics ones, no endocrine or kidney? And a lot of really detailed/specific stuff that I wasnt ready for. The non orgo passages were ok, overall the section was ok.
AAMC AVG: 11
Expcted: 11

Crossing my fingers... i do not wanna retake 🙁

that was my prediction With AAMC Avgs.

Final score
PS: 10
VR:11
BS:12
WS: Q

33Q. I'm happy and definitely not retaking. Glad its over👍

got my score back today! i got a 28R, while not a super high score, plus with an R for the writing sample I am pleased with it. how'd everyone else do??

im retaking because of my poor writing score...might apply DO right now though.

Do they take into account your 2nd mcat score after you submit your application?

My MCAT practice exams:

AAMC: PS VR BS
3: 12 7 13 = 32
4: 12 6 14 = 32
5: 13 8 11 = 32
6: 13 6 14 = 33
7: 13 6 13 = 32
8: 14 6 11 = 31
9: 14 4 12 = 30
10:12 7 12 = 31

Actual:

Aug 2006: 10 (PS) 7 (VR) 13 (BS) = 30M
May 2010: 12 (PS) 8 (VR) 13 (BS) = 33Q

I probably won't get into any Canadian or American MD schools because of the low verbal score. But, hopefully I will get into DO school... 😳

11BS 10V 7PS Q. Oh hai! You look familiar. Oh, yeah! That's right! That's the same goddamn score I got LAST year! So I'm retaking again 9/11 and am applying to MD next cycle - keeping my DO applications open - I'm sure after a year's worth of grades from an SMP will help.

Grats to everyone else.

Good job everyone! I got a 10, 10, 10 30M distribution which I am satisfied with, but not sure that it will be enough. About to post in the "what are my chances" forum 😛

10/10/11 R ... not amazing but seriously that test was a total ****show so im just happy to not have to retake! and to be able to go to a school where i can get the degree to do what i want to do!!! eeeeeeeeeeeea a;kdjfal;fj alskdfj; :horns:

Worst fears. My 1st time i took the MCAT i got VR 8. This time i felt like I was in a daydream during VR.. turns out it was a nightmare instead.

PS 10, VR 5, BS 8
🙁

Hey guys, I was hoping someone could give me advice as to what to do now.

I took the mcat last year and scored a 28N: 10, 10, and 8 in Verbal
I took it again this May and scored a 32Q: 13 Bio, 12 PS, and 7 in Verbal

I don't know if I should take it again for the third time because of Verbal--I mean I know that it's low but I don't know what else I could do to get it higher. I studied a LOT for it last time but nothing worked.

If it helps, I have a 3.9 science GPA and a lot of volunteer experience.

Thanks so much

Well I knew PS was going to be rough....
7 PS
10 VR
10 BS
27Q.
Thought my BS would be alot higher, same with my writing. Already set to retake July 29th 🙁
That 27 is not good enough for my state schools plus my GPA, which is awesome right now and has been since Sophomore year is damaged from my first year of college.
At least I did not BOMB it all....focusing on PS is a MUST for next time.
Great job to those who got what they wanted! Wish I did...

Well, 12PS 11VR 10BS. A lil disappointed with the BS, but I also got an M on the writing... the kaplan writing method didn't do me any favors, I don't think. At any rate, I'm satisfied with that, given that my first practice test evar was a 23!

Could you guys help me out, I bombed the verbal. I got a:

13 physics
6 Verbal
13 bio

I have a GPA: 3.7 and scGPA: 3.83

Unfortunately, 6 is pretty low. Low enough you could defintely be screened out of places. I'm not sure of all the schools that do screen, or what their cutoffs are, but I know it happens.

My MCAT practice exams:

AAMC: PS VR BS
3: 12 7 13 = 32
4: 12 6 14 = 32
5: 13 8 11 = 32
6: 13 6 14 = 33
7: 13 6 13 = 32
8: 14 6 11 = 31
9: 14 4 12 = 30
10:12 7 12 = 31

Actual:

Aug 2006: 10 (PS) 7 (VR) 13 (BS) = 30M
May 2010: 12 (PS) 8 (VR) 13 (BS) = 33Q

I probably won't get into any Canadian or American MD schools because of the low verbal score. But, hopefully I will get into DO school... 😳

8 shouldn't be enough to keep you out of an MD school at all.

10 VR
12 PS
M WS
12 BS

34M

i'm pleased with all except the M on writing. very shocked actually as I consider myself a decent writer. anyone else surprised at their writing scores? i know this M is bad, but how bad??

You're M will make no difference in your application. Seriously, I can't stress this enough, no one cares about writing. You did great! Be happy and trust me, no one will even notice your writing score.

Also to everyone else freaking out on here, if you get an 8 or above on all sections and you have a 29 or 30, you can get into an MD program. If you are mid to high thirties and you get a 7 on verbal, you will still get into an MD program. You may get cut from a couple of privates that receive a million apps but only a couple. Your mid to high thirty will probably be a green flag that seriously may spit out a priority score on an admissions computer that supersedes the red flag from the 7. Remember, Harvard and Duke still take a couple of people every year with mid twenties (granted they require extreme circumstances) but don't think one minor shortfall will completely blackball you from every MD school on earth.

hey all. just joined the site. about to get going on MD/PhD applications for entering in 2011. took the MCAT on 5/22. Could only get one full week off of work to study for it, but it turned out ok (36R - 14PS, 11V, 11BS ... pretty characteristic of a guy who focused on engineering/mathy stuff for undergrad). Anyhow, looking forward to picking many of your brains while I attempt to fill out all this AMCAS stuff. Cheers.

This is so tragic. everyone is getting slayed by the verbal section, and although i got to say that is encouraging me to study even harder for it, it just pisses me off so bad that such a little thing, one section of an mcat, which is not even based on any science, can totally dismantle some1's dream's of going to an medical school. Most of us are literate, can read at a descent speed, and have the ability to comprehend what we read..so why? WHY??? Why put a tricky, twisted section with all this dumb jargon and sprinkled MCAT fluff all over it?? I'm gonna go balls out on this section but man, really sad to see so many people having to retake or delay an application cycle just because of a score on one section of a test...and most of these ppl have worked hard and have good GPA's throughout undergrad.

OK im done venting!! good luck retakers.

i'm in the same damn boat with the verbal... 11P,6V,10B. So pissed. I assume a 6 would kill me even for DO applications...? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I'm in the same situation as the above poster, but w/ physical sciences. 28S: 10BS 11v 6PS, Don't get me wrong, I didn't study any of the right stuff for bio so I'm more than thankful for that but ughhhh the physical killed me and now I have to retake.
Good job for everyone that kicked ass though! 😀

I got a 38 (14, 10, 14). How is that perceived in general?

I'm not a troll, just want to get some feedback. I'm guessing I shouldn't retake. Thx 🙂

Does anyone know if there is a way to find out your raw score and what the raw score cutoffs were for each section??

wow looks like the verbal was rough for this gang of MCATters

Yeah, I felt the verbal was really rough too, lucky guesses saved me.

Practice score info for anyone that wants it:

AAMC's

3: PS 10, VR 10, BS 11 Total 31
7 PS 12, VR 10, BS 11 Total 33
8 PS 12, VR 8, BS 11 Total 31
9 PS 12, VR 11, BS 11 Total 34
10 PS 13, VS 10, BS 12 Total 35

Hey everyone. Congratulations for doing so well!! I need a little bit of feedback. I am happy with my score, but I am worried about the lack of balance in it. I got a 30P.

PS 9
BS 8
VR 13

Thanks! I look forward to hearing your feedback...hope you all enjoy your summer!

Gatorhead, I think that is a pretty solid score - a lot of schools actually look at VR as the most important section as it supposedly correlates with success in med school.

However, if you can maintain that VR score range (11-13) and you were just weak on your knowledge of content in PS and BS, you might consider a retake to get a more well rounded score with 10+ on each section. In my personal experience, PS especially is a section where you can get the greatest returns by actually knowing the content. But I would only retake if you have a history of averaging 11-13 on AAMC verbal sections, you were weak on science content, and you are willing to put in the time and effort to substantially improve in those areas. Do not retake if you would potentially do the same on your sciences and worse on verbal.

I think quite a few of my friends with 14/14/7(V)ish scores would rather have your score. So I think your score is pretty solid!

I'm willing to pay $$$ for your Berkeley Review books, maybe take my money to help get an iPhone 4 or something, I really need your Berkeley Review Gchem and Ochem books. Pm me if you have them!

1) your name is BOSS status. maybe i can be an architect if I don't get into med school? +1 for the french touch
2) thank you and kehlsh for your help! I was getting 8's and 9's with an occasional 7 and occasional 10 in my practice tests. I am majoring in finance and have never truly been good at science courses. I have not taken microbio or biochem (basically only have taken bio 1&2, general chem 1&2, organic 1&2, physics 1&2), so the biosciences are definitely my weak point. Is it me or all of the biology except the orgo parts are microbio and biochem? 🙁 Given that, I should probably keep my score
