Hey Everyone,

I was searching through the threads to see if one has been created for this test date yet, but I could not find it so I thought I would create it. I am waiting for finals to finish up and then going to hit practice tests for the next three months!

HAHA, yes I am SOOOOFREAKEDOUT!!! haha. I love your username! I am DONE with my PRIMARY!!!!! I finished it a couple weeks ago but am holding off hitting that submit button to see how I do on the MCAT practice test. I just honestly don't think I am going to be where I want to be. But if you say that 2.5 weeks is enough to work problems, etc --then maybe you're right.

I have just been so discouraged between taking the test when I feel half prepared and applying this cycle or waiting another year and making sure that I am ready. I am going on vacation from July 30th-August 9th so delaying until August isn't really feasible. I just don't know what to do. My prehealth adviser suggested that with my stats and EC's I could get a 28+ and have a good shot at my state school.

I just really don't know. I am going to take my first FL tomorrow and see what happens.

If you really feel confident with your current stats that you can handle a 28 and still get into your state school (have you talked to anyone from admissions yet?), and you feel confident that you can get at least a 28, go for it. But if you're coming up on test day and all the evidence (practice test scores, in-book questions, your own personal confidence in knowledge of the material) is against you, maybe you would like to consider pushing it back. One of the biggest mistakes I made was taking the MCAT when I clearly was not ready. It's helped in the long run, as I was able to see what the test would really be like and it has informed the depth and intensity of my studies since, but it was pretty nerve-wracking, and I have an MCAT score on my rap sheet that at the end of the day I'm not happy with. Ultimately it comes down to how you feel, and what other people more impartially familiar and knowledgeable about your situation than a bunch of anonymous strangers on an Internet forum have to say.

That said, I really hope that you realize you are ready for the MCAT and take it with us! It would be incredibly fulfilling to see everyone on this thread achieve stunning successes on July 29th. I'm now looking deep into those EK 1001 books and some of those questions have probably irreparably damaged my brain. It still hurts. Hooo boy.

Hey there, thank you for your response. I did not mean to brag or anything saying that all I need is a 28 with my stats, however that is what my pre-health adviser stated who used to sit on the adcom for our state school. I guess he said with my GPA and clinical experience, EC's, etc that a 28 should be enough to get me into some place. I am planning on taking my first FL today and I'll let you know how I did. I am starting to feel a lot better about biology as I did a pretty intense review of it last night. Hopefully, I'll be where I want to be come test day!!! I completely agree about being prepared and I am doing everything humanly possible to not delay my test as I really want to apply this cycle with all of you great applicants!!!!

I didn't take it that way at all, so no worries. I honestly hope that your assessment of the MCAT was favorable and that you're ready to take it. And if you're not and you feel it's better to move it to another date, that's cool too. There's no shame in making sure you present yourself to your dream school in the best possible light.

Hello there,

I am in quiet the pickle. I took my first "real" FL and did not do so hot. However, I am kind of happy about it because I took the TPR classroom course several months ago and the first ever diag that I took (first two weeks into the course) was a pathetic 12. I took AAMC 3 today and got a 7 PS, 7VR, 8BS so I guess I am doing something right.

But obviously this score wont get me in anywhere. However, in my defense I am not done with my preparation/practice. I have been studying maybe for 5 weeks and am working out of the TPR book. I have completed a majority of the free standing problems for Physics, GChem, and OChm. I have done all of the passages for physics, but other than that--nothing else. I have about 200 passages left to complete! I am not making excuses of why my practice exam score was low, but I honestly think with more and more practice (especially passages) my scores could only improve. I feel shaky about certain subjects/topics and I think with some practice I could start to master those, thus improving my score.

I wanted to get your honest opinions of what to do. With ~2 weeks left, do you think it would be possible to raise up my scores with substantial practice? I can't really take this in August because I am going on vacation from July 30th to the 9th then am starting to work more. Who knows what I'll remember by the time I come home which was a main reason why I wanted to take it on the 29th, before I left.

This just sucks, but I can only blame myself. My primary is all ready and just waiting for me to click the submit button. I have all my LORs in and everything is 100% ready to go. I feel waiting would be such a bummer because I have put in hours and hours of work getting everything together (PS, Activities, LORs, etc) and I feel like waiting a year would be the end of the world. However, I know that everyone says do it once and do it right. As stated before, my pre-health adviser suggested that I aim for a 28+ to get into our state school.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Soofreakkedoutt where are you? haha.

jakeman it would appear you have two good options if you really want to get into any allopathic medical school.

The first option is to cancel your vacation and move your MCAT test date into mid or perhaps even late August. AAMC #3 is the easiest of all the tests and you scored a 22. You need to be at least averaging a 28 in the last few (more difficult) AAMC practice tests (7-10) if you hope to score close to a 28. You will be later than some, but since it is your state school you should still have a good chance assuming you can hit your target. You can submit now and only apply to your state school. If you somehow end up scoring really well on the MCAT, you can always add more schools at that point.

The other option is to wait until you are fully prepared for the MCAT, averaging at least 30 or above on practice tests, and get a good score on the MCAT (even with retakes). Then you can apply early next year to multiple schools, including of course your state school at which you will be a more competitive applicant.

I cannot say for certain your scores will not suddenly jump up 6 points or more in the next two weeks. But better to be proactive now and make sure you have no regrets.

I agree, more so with the latter. I think that I am going to continue to bust my ass studying for the MCAT and take a couple more practice exams before now and the test date. I want to save some of the AAMC's just in case I do decide to postpone, I want to still be able to gauge my progress. It sucks because tomorrow is the last date that we are allowed to reschedule, modify our test date, whatever. I really NEED to get out of here and go on vacation, it may seem stupid to everyone on this forum, but I have not enjoyed summer at all. I have been working a lot and studying for the MCAT. This vacation is what will keep me sane and will allow me to regain focus should I need to come back and continue to study for a later test date.

I have really been thinking it over and I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world waiting another year. At least I would be studying with two of my other friends and we could all take the exam and suffer together, at least I wouldn't be feeling the pain alone like now. I was just sideswiped and felt that the entire world was crashing down because my plan was derailed (Not taking the MCAT this summer, still having to study for this dumb test during school, not applying this cycle, etc). However, I do agree that I want to make sure that I am 100% ready to sit for the test. I know I am better than a 22 and with the additional time and practice I am hoping to achieve the mid 30's.

Another good thing would be that I wouldn't be applying so late in the game. Assuming that I do well on the MCAT and submit my application super early, I could hopefully get into a better school than my state school.

@thejakeman, I just sent you a PM but after having read your post just now it sounds like I got the answer to my question about what your gut feeling was. Seems like you want to wait for next year. That's not the end of the world just make sure you stay on top of the game and actually do the MCAT before the next cycle and submit the AMCAS as early as you can next year. It's VERY easy to dodge the bullet by postponing and then repeat the same bonehead timing and mistakes the next year, I've seen people do it.

Wouldn't be the worst idea to change your date now to that January date you were thinking of doing, that way you're really committed to a date. Don't take this test (w/o voiding) if you're not going to do well because some schools will average scores.

Good luck making your decision. At this point, only YOU know what you're capable of doing.

2 weeks from today, guys and gals! My non-medical advice is to double your daily caffeine intake and keep your eyes on the prize! 😀

I'm from 7/30 club
Anybody wants to take AAMC 6 with me and chocomoo, followed by serious discussion? hehehahahoho @ 8 AM tomorrow????

@kehish: I'm taking AAMC 8 tomorrow at 1:00PM, which is when I'll be taking the real deal.

I can't believe this thing is only 2 weeks away! For some reason my body is refusing to accept that it's so close and is insisting on doing other things like singing or running or watching TV, things my brain knows would be far more enjoyable after the exam but are vices too powerful for it to override! Ugh.
Thanks MediCynical for making me remember I still have to study. Hunkering down over EK 1001 Chemistry now.

why does it seem like time is flying by.....AAMC 6,7,8,10 left ;O and a couple Kaplan FL's.....I can do it....@ least I hope...
😛

because time is flying by!! haha

I took both Saturday and Sunday off 😱, but it's OK because I needed a break from studying. I've got AAMC 7 -10 left.... taking 7 @ 1:00 tomorrow 😀

Keep working hard, everyone! It's the final stretch, so keep crankin' out practice problems and working on your weaknesses!

just over a week to go! cant wait till it's overrrrr
will finally be able to enjoy summer! 😀

About a week left!!! :luck: Any retakers here?

yep! I took it back in 2007 and I'm retaking because my score is expired at some schools 😡. However, since then I've done another year of undergrad and a SMP, so I better crush my old score! haha 😀

About a week left!!! :luck: Any retakers here?

I took it last summer almost exactly a year ago (I think my first exam was on August 1st). Things could not be more different this time around!
I'm stoked to be almost done. My family's going on a road trip right after it's over!

Lots of retakers! Let's all beat this mcat to a pulp. This is my 4th time taking the test. I only have 1 score though, since I voided the last two times. Now it's do or die. Hope this is my last time taking it.

wow, voiding takes balls imo. how'd u do on ur one score, if u don't mine me asking?

Last week guys! We can doooo it! We can do it all night long! (thanks to adam sandler movies) If anyone out there is stressing, keep faith that it will all come together the day off! Formulas will stop floating and be the way of domination!! :luck:

Reminder: TODAY is the last day (11:59PM EST) to make any changes to your name on the AAMC website. Make sure your license/passport is in order and that the EXACT name on the document matches what you've entered on AAMC.

SoFreakedOut--thanks for the reminder. My middle name is on my license, but not my registration. Added it just in case.

Anyone else worried about mentally freaking out next week? I figure at this point, my biggest weapon is remaining calm (so mentally collected) and confident. For confidence, I have "plans of action":

  • for tough/WTF passage => don't dwell + do best + forget it when I'm done with it + focus on next passage/problem;
  • for "OMG I know X but I can't remember it panic panic panic!" => mentally shout "NO!" + 5 deep breaths + look in passage for hints + mark answer/s (maybe to review, too) + move on
  • for VR = close eyes + 5 deep breaths between each passag
  • for energy = snack packed in small/quick bites + water bottle
  • for WS = type out (or jot down) template first, then fill it in

Anyone else developed/developing plans of action?

Yeah, I'm just going to do my best and keep moving on. I've seen the worst PS section EVER this past January and the VR from hell this past June so I don't think anything can phase me anymore lol. There may very well be WTF passages, but don't let them blow your cool. Also, make sure you completely wipe your mind when you move on to the next section.

Hey guys! Hope everybody is ready to be done studying for the rest of the summer! I had a question about practice test averages though. So far, I have gotten a 34/32/34/35 on AAMC tests 7-10. I really think I need to get >=34 on the real deal in order to compensate for a somewhat borderline GPA. Do you think I will be ready to take the test next Thursday, or should I postpone it and try to take it in a couple more weeks. I just took #10 tonight, so the good news is that I seem to be improving. Just looking for thoughts/suggestions.
Thanks!

Hahahahaha the mental "NO!" is hilarious on paper, but I've definitely done it a couple of times when I either forget something or if a song starts playing incessantly in my head. I do the silent shout, then I close my eyes, take a couple of deep breaths, promise myself that I have all the mental faculties needed to get the question right, and then I open my eyes and stare at the passage Really Really Hard. It always shaves about five seconds off my time, but it's always been the best five seconds I've ever spent.

6 DAYS!!!

I'm in a similar boat. I got 31/31/32/33 on 7-10 and am hoping for 32-33 on the real thing. I think that we should just write and see what happens. Obviously we have been peaking if we have been getting these scores and I don't know how much more improvement is realistic from here. Hopefully, it will go well. I think we both just give it a shot and see what happens .

I really hope that the actual test doesn't have a bunch of my weaknesses on it... I also hope the verbal is reasonable (although these 2 things are probably the most worried about by all who take the MCAT)

I haven't taken 9 or 10 yet, but I'm going for a 35+ and my scores have been as follows:
AAMC 3: 12/12/13 = 37
AAMC 4: 12/9/14 = 35
AAMC 5: 12/11/12 = 35
AAMC 6: 11/😡7/13= 31
AAMC 7: 14/14/14 = 42
AAMC 8: 14/11/13 = 38

honestly, I still feel like I could study for another month. I haven't done even half of the review material I bought, and I'm always thinking of things that I don't remember and need to look up 😱

Honestly for me at this point, I just wanna get it done. I know I could study more but the question of whether or not I will improve is a big one because I'm getting pretty tired of studying lol. I think one has to make a conscious decision when he is really tired of the MCAT and just wants to write it and see what he gets. That's me right now.

Oh lol. I accidentally ticked off the medical student thing in my profile. I am actually a PRE-medical student, so that clarifies things.

Hey guys, hows errebody doing. I took my MCAT the first time in 04/09/2010 and got a 24L. I was really disappointed with myself.

I am retaking it this week. I am averaging a 29 on the AAMC Exams and hope to get atleast a 30.

We got a lot of smart people on SDN averaging 35+.

Goodluck to all you guys! and I hope we KILLLLLL it.

Weird that MCAT 7/30 thread is 7 pages long compared to 2 pages for 7/29. Are more people signed up for 7/30? Or is it because SDNers prefer the morning test?

Or maybe we're the more studious batch. Slow movement=people studying/too busy to post on SDN, lol jk jk 🙂

5 more days!!

I bet most people would rather have the extra day, since the tentative release dates listed for both administration dates are the same.

True. An extra day would be nice. I don't like AM tests, though.

IMHO, I think the extra day at the end isn't very useful compared to performing more optimally because of the time of day. If you feel like you will do better on the PM test then you made the right choice even though it sacrifices one day, which probably would have been nervous page flipping anyways!

We gotst this!!

I'm from the 7/30 group...it's the same people posting over and over, it's tight-knit I suppose, lots of moral support. Everyone posts about taking full lengths, issues with sections, and other random stuff. I guess this group is just quiet.

Well Lets start some discussion then. I could use the moral support haha. I am about to go workout and then take AAMC#8. Like I said before, I've being averaging only a 29 🙁. Lets hope, I somehow get a 35 on this one to boost my confidence haha.

Let me know, if you guys wanna take this exam with me and if you have already taken it lmk how ya'll did.

Haha. I feel like every time I post in this thread I get way too cheerleader-y for my own good. I just took AAMC 6 and scored right on my average, so I'm a little disappointed--AAMC6 is one of the easier ones, right? I thought I had literally failed the Biology section during it; it was a pretty awful experience.
As for AAMC 8, it was my worst score so far. I found the Physical Sciences section pretty challenging and it focused on my weaknesses like a laser. Really scary. But best of luck to you ninjasoldier--a 35 would be fantastically motivating, and hopefully it becomes the norm for you in these last few days!
I'm definitely not a morning person and it's a slightly longer drive to get to my testing center, so that's why I chose the date for the PM session. I'm kind of glad I did, because we get a jump on the weekend--which would be a nice way to cap off a successful test! How's everyone else feeling so far?

I just hope our test is decent. I hope the verbal is decent. Nothing monster like, or I will seriously cry. I just want to get this over with...I want to just score this test and be done with it. Its long overdue. Hope next weeks flies by!

I scored the worst on AAMC 6.... it was, however, the only test I took at home and I have trouble concentrating at home (the 6 others I've taken have been at the library)

I just hope our test is decent. I hope the verbal is decent. Nothing monster like, or I will seriously cry. I just want to get this over with...I want to just score this test and be done with it. Its long overdue. Hope next weeks flies by!

*or woman haha.

Hey everyone, I'm also writing this 29th, hopefully its a better outcome from 6/17 mcat, my score dropped from a 34Q (13P/10V/11B Q) from my previous attempt at the mcat in Aug of 2008 to a 26Q (10P/6V/10B Q), so really hoping this time I can do much better.

Yeah...I'm a dude, but thanks for the equality shout-out! Haha.

I actually did pretty well on 6, but it frustrated me because I was getting several of them right by making educated guesses. While I'm happy to get those points, it's just a practice exam. I can't count on such luck to come to me on the big day - leaving things up to chance like that really frustrated me. So I did well, but it was an ultimately horrible experience. And don't even get me started on Verbal...
I've taken all my exams at home, but my room is right next to the kitchen, and my family's out there making more noise than a Hannah Montana concert (not on purpose, of course). So I bought a set of earplugs and they work really well - I think I'm going to use a new set for the actual thing too. Really helped me focus!

Oh, and KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE PEOPLE!!

Oh, and KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE PEOPLE!!

I second that...

For some reason, I am having a hard time concentrating right now...An "I just want to take the real thing and get it over with" type of feeling..
I'm comletely worn out....

Imma try to get some earplugs before the exam...I've been meaning to get some and saying tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow...and tomorrow's deadline is around the corner lol...

Good luck to us ALL:xf:
