First time poster...mostly because im sick with nerves.
I sure hope I never have to do this whole process over again!

Only a couple hours!!!!

ok. time is clicking and I am freaking out. I dreamed of getting 40+ ha ha....never got over 33 when practicing. Anyway...what do you guys see on the THx page. I only see "you have no scores yet" sentence. I don't even see the date I took. I hope I didn't accidentally void the test😕

I see the same thing when I log in, I am assuming that is the norm

first time poster...

Found the thread while looking to see if anyone is waiting for these scores too🙂

Good luck everyone. Hopefuly within the next few hours the guessing stops.

Scores are out!!!

40S! PS: 14 VR 13 BS 13

I'm so so so so so ridiculously happy right now! And they came out before practice to boot!

33Q, straight 11's

pretty much what i expected because i went in feeling underprepared. now i need to think hard if i want to retake to get 36+ hahaha.

Avg. AAMC: 28

Actual: 31Q
11-PS
11-VR
09-BS

I'm worried about bio, but I'm liking the 30+ score. Good luck to everyone else!

I feel sick to my stomach. On the last 6 practice tests I took I got above a 34. My highest was PS: 13 VR: 13 BS: 13 and my average was like a 36. Then I get a 31O on the real one. FML. That damn PS really messed me up, Gen Chem is my worst and I felt like that was all there was. Ugh, I don't even know if I'll apply now.

Hi, new member here!
My score was very disappointing, but I completely expected it. I knew I wasn't ready. I'm not going to post the score because it's that embarassing, but I was really hoping for some advice. Some of you are so lucky to be getting in the high 30s, even low 30s.
What did you use to study and practice? Please tell me anything and everything you did, and how long. I am planning to retake in a few months.
I appreciate the help. Thank you and good luck!
P.S. I took an online kaplan course, just to give an idea of how I prepared

Finally the scores are out! The waiting was killing me.

33M (I know, that M sucks)
PS09
BS12
VR12

The PS is bad but I wasn't expecting as much chemistry. I'm very happy with my score which is much much higher than any of my practices, I guess I wasn't taking those practice tests very seriously. I will not be retaking it.

Good luck everybody!!!
(and to anyone with a 30+ score: be happy 🙂)

I used a Kaplan class but I guess I was lucky because I had a very good instructor...
I did not study as much as I could have. Anyway, here is my advice: start studying wayyyyyyy ahead for the next one and do one practice test per week. NOT MORE THAN ONE! Use the kaplan online ressources (it should be free for you). Most of all: practice on both AAMC and Kaplan.

One more thing: don't beat yourself up over your score. The test we took was very atypical and probably does not relate well to the amount of studying you did.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU :xf:

OMG Best day of my life!!!

Last summer, I took it two times: 29R (12-7-10) and 25Q (10-5-10). The second time I had diarrhea, and I don't know why I did not void.

This time 37Q (14-10-13). AAMC avg was around a 37 too. Guys, believe this: with determination and hard work, ANYONE can improve. At the end of the day, what matters is the amount of work you put in, because I believe most people (99% of us) are smart enough to do well on this test.

It was a nervous day today, but I'm glad it's over! Congratulations to all the good scores. For those who are not happy with their scores, remember, if you put in the work, you WILL be rewarded. NO DOUBT!

Thanks for the input. By the way, if I started studying within a week or two, and plan on taking it in January or February-- does that seem like enough time?

I am planning on getting TPR and EK books this time. Would anyone recommend the comprehensive books, or certain subjects? I heard TPR is good for physical sciences, and EK good for biological sciences and verbal...

Sounds good! It's def enough time, especially considering the fact that you already studied for it.
best of luck

This was the first time taking MCAT
11 PS, 06 VR, 15 BS 🙁

Verbal killed me... should I retake???

Thanks! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Yes you should definitely retake. A balanced score is more important than a high score. For instance, a 35 is worthless if the verbal was a 5.

I took a Kaplan course over the summer right after finishing the last of my pre-med classes (Freshman year: Gen Chem I+II/Bio I+II Sophomore: Orgo I+II/Physics I+II) and it definitely helped me brush up on some concepts from bio and gen chem I had forgotten and strengthened my weak points in physics. I think the true value of it is it makes you sit down for X hours a week months in advance to start studying and gives you a battle plan of how to study.

Yes you should retake. I know it must feel bad to through away that beautiful 15 in BS but think about your goal. Your PS and BS seem very solid so I'm sure you won't have too much trouble improving your score with enough verbal practice. By the way, I think the key to an "ok" score in verbal is to find your own technique and know how to adapt. For example, I was never able to finish a VR section during practice, so I decided to drop the mapping (kaplan style). I tried different things and found my fit a few days before the real one. It works way better.

Yeah...I tried the mapping, but it always seemed to bog me down. It was useful for me to make some mental notes though. Taking physical notes interrupted the flow of the passage for me and made it more difficult to understand. I was always just better off reading through once and then going back through as per each question. Not the most efficient maybe, but it was the most effective for me.

32R

I mapped on verbal.
PS and BS I biffed on a few easy questions. Congrats, Im proud to be a 8/19er. Good luck if you re-take, I know I am planning to.

Yeah, it was my first time taking as well. I was shocked at how much GChem was on the PS, dntke1518. It was not particularly easy GChem either.

I walked out of the testing room, and figured I would have to retake it. I honestly thought BS was going to be my worst, and that VR actually didn't go too badly.

9-VR 12-PS 14-BS Writing: O

It is weird how that works out, and I believe luck may have been in my favor. Before taking it on 8/19, I took 3 practice tests (2 AAMC, 1 TPR, I believe) all scoring 31s. I never once scored above a 9 in VR, and I think TPR verbal method is absolute garbage. The last practice test I took, I winged it by pacing myself, marking, and making mental notes and it yielded my best result (a whimpy 9). This was higher than any score I had while using TPR method, so maybe it was either a better approach or I was into a new spot on the learning curve.

With that said, I realize I have a lopsided 35O. I am an Indiana resident and want to apply for MD/PhD. I applied to IU, but I also want to apply to a close, private school as well to broaden my horizons. My thought was Northwestern. The average MD only program at NW is around a 34 (for their 2009 entering class) I believe, but with a 10.7 average VR score. That makes me a little worried about my 9 for VR. I know I have some research to do, specifically about each program's research and what each has to offer for MD/PhD. I don't think they've posted their matriculant MD/PhD 2009 class for MCAT scores.

I am a pharmacy student, I have job shadowed, I have been 3 years deep into inorganic chemistry research at my school, and I have a 3.9+ GPA after being 1 year deep into the actual pharmacy portion of the program, and 2 years pre-pharmacy classes. I am involved on campus, and have leadership positions throughout my tenure at the school.

What are your opinions as far as applying to NW, either MD or MD/Phd?

lol, I was going to say that I'd rather have the one more point and take the Q...I feel we can work out a trade here 😛

Regardless, congrats dude!

So its been a long time since the test. Interview invites are starting to come in. Today I got an interview invitation to McMaster. Feels good to have one already. Anyone else got any invitations?

If you took the exam in the year 2010 and still haven't received your score I think you're in trouble 😉
