Anyone else on here taking it on the 24th? I'm going to start studying later this week. What is everyone else's study plan?
Just finished the AAMC SAP for physics and chemistry. How do these correlate?
Physics SAP -- 94%
Gen Chem SAP -- 91%
Also I have 3 AAMCs left. Should I spread these out or just finish them by next week?
All I have left are AAMC 9, 10, 11 and TBR MC questions (no way I am getting through all of them..)
Wooooooow. I just redid AAMC #9 verbal and gave myself around 9 minutes per passage (so I would have gone overtime a little bit). I didn't look at any answers before. I scored a 10 this time. 31/40.3 and 5 gave me trouble as well. This exam also had a bit more of the "what is the main idea of the passage" type questions. Don't let the number get to you so much though, if you're capable of getting a 10 on AAMC 8 then you can do it on the real thing as well.
Here are my differences in scores per passage:
3/5 > 4/5
4/5 > 4/5
4/7 > 6/7
1/5 > 2/5
2/5 > 3/5
5/7 > 7/7
3/6 > 5/7
As you can see, the two passages in the middle (4 and 5) that I didn't understand the first time around I still didn't do well on. However, with giving myself 9 minutes per passage ( about 5 min to read the passage and 4 minutes to do the questions) I was able to score 10. Now I just need to figure out a way to read quicker and understand what I am reading when I am reading fast. Any suggestions?
I wish we had 9 minutes on the Real Mcat that would be amazing! I have the same issue, can't really comment.

I don't know if I was out of it for the bio section for AAMC 9 but I ended up getting an 11, the lowest in a while. I think I was having trouble with the wording of the passages and answer choices. Not sure if I didn't do well because I was burnt out, or need to do more reviewing. Scored a 13 on ps, which has been the norm, and went back to a 10 on verbal. Ughhh I want to start seeing some higher scores overall, this is depressing.
Damn! Killin it!!!That's good, 9 minutes per passage is 63 minutes total, so you're close
Bio is often the one that is worded the worst.
Update on my scores, hoping I can keep it up for the real thing:
AAMC 3: 12 PS, 12 VR, 11 BS - 35
AAMC 4: 14 PS, 12 VR, 13 BS - 39
AAMC 5: 13 PS, 12 VR, 12 BS - 37
AAMC 7: 13 PS, 11 VR, 13 BS - 37
AAMC 8: 14 PS, 10 VR, 12 BS - 36
AAMC 9: 15 PS, 11 VR, 13 BS - 39
Nice dude! you be killin it, I can't seem to peak in all three sections on my test yet, been scoring around 34-36. I think im just tired from taking a test every other day for the past 2 months or so. Ima probably take a few days off before the last two AAMC. Keep you guys all updated. My mind probably just needs to recuperate, looked back on my answers for AAMC 9, and most of them were misinterpretations and not content. That's good, 9 minutes per passage is 63 minutes total, so you're close

Hey brainiacs (Eghhm @Lamel and @enjoipanda ), quick question.
For buoyancy, (F=pgV) submerged objects of equal V experience the same buoyant F. But... For floating objects, different Volumes can experience the same F, if they have the same mass. They (SDNers of the past) say it's because a floating object will displace a volume of fluid of weight equal to its own weight (idk wtf this means lol). Can someone please explain this second part to me via the buoyancy equation? I don't understand where the mass of the object comes into play.
I'm gonna do BR 3-5 as well as 10 and 11So we have 2 weeks... how many FLs are you guy gonna do other than 10 & 11?
Should I squeeze in AAMC 3 and/or Kaplan 9?

Hey guys.. I m done with exam..
Physical science ::: was ok..
Verbal passage:: very very long
Biological science :: critical passage make you think hard... Difficult
Congratulations!
How were your breakdowns before? Howd it compare to 10/11/kaplan?
Jan - Hard PS
March 22 - Ok PS
April 5 - Hard PS
April 11 - OK PS
April 24th - I'm *uckin toast
but its all relative to whomever it was that took the test.....
13/8/12 on BR CBT 3
Not sure yet. I've scored higher on the BR exams, but that's only because I took AAMC 3-9 last year when I was going to take the exam. I ended up postponing. Last year before the exam is ranged from 27-30 scoring a 30 on #9 (however all my sciences were around 10-11. My low scores were because of my 6-8 scores in verbal). With the last 3 months of studying I feel as though my scores for AAMC 3-9 would definitely all be higher. How are the TBR exams compared to AAMC and Kaplan? How about conpared to their passages?
Idk if i should buy one to add to 10/11 at this point...

Well idk though yet. I scored around 11 on the last 2 TBR exams. According to everyone on here and TBR the 3rd exam (the one I just posted) is the hardest and the curve was very lenient I felt. I got 40/52 and that was considered a 13.Wow your scores poped up this time around! I thought I couldnt get higher than my 9-11 average on PS because im just not natural with that section, but your making me rethink that...
Im trying to squeeze in TBR passages in my weak areas these last 2 weeks

Yeah apparently 3 was harder though?Yeah without an understanding of the scaling the scores can be confusing. I made 36/52 on #3 and got an 11 but 38/52 on 4 and made a 9. I'm all screwed up emotionally: "Yay, less mistakes :-D, but WTF a 2 point drop." I don't know how to feel right now :-/
On #5 an 11 will be 43/52 which is precisely how AAMC would scale it.
Yeah apparently 3 was harder though?
Haha, I did as well. I'm gonna be using AAMC 10 and 11 for my closest predictor. Wasn't I taking to you like last year? Your name sounds familiar?Yup, straight from the horses mouth: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/berkeley-review-mcat-course-information.980020/
lol, again should I be happy that I did better on their "punishment" exam than I did on their "mid-ranged" exam?

If you don't mind me asking, what'd you use to study for the PS section? Those are solid SA scores.Just finished the AAMC SAP for physics and chemistry. How do these correlate?

I went against judgment and took AAMC 9 today. Now I only have 2 exams for the rest of the 2 weeks (10 and 11). I think that should be okay though, I'll just focus on more BR passages and maybe self assessments.
My scores are coming out nicely, and I really hope I can replicate an AAMC 9 performance on the real thing. PS is definitely my strong suit, and I've been trying intensely to get Bio to 14 to no avail. Anyone who has scored 14-15 on bio, any advice?
That's so surprising, 8 was so much harder than 9 for verbal imo. Did you overthink too much?
Also do you just do them individually? I think simulating a real exam is better.

Im getting tired of studying.. pretty much dont feel like doing this anymore. Im now just dedicating myself to practicing Verbal and Biology content. In the last week, I am going to attack EK 1001 for all subjects.
Had a bit of a realization with Verbal the other day:
I realized that I can now focus on passages much better than I could previously. I can now think about the passage while reading it simultaneously. I notice when I miss questions in Verbal passages, its usually 1 or 2 entire passages that I completely mess up on (and practically get EVERY question wrong), and then pretty much get all the questions right for all of the other passages. I think the reason is there is a certain type of passage my techniques dont work on, like when a passage talks about a TON of people briefly or refers to history, but does it in a historically, nonlinear manner.
Sometimes I miss a line/phrase/etc in my initial speed reading, and it skews my perception about what the article was about. And then missing that one thing will affect my performance on that passage as mentioned above.
So, does anyone here who consistently scores around a 12 and above on Verbal? Do you have different techniques for different passages? or is just one technique you are able to apply to all passages.
I had a feeling you'd say TBR! I have the book set for PS, I'm going to start bustin' through those tomorrow. How long do you think it'll take me to finish the 20 chapters? I have no job, classes, responsibilities, etc.I think TBR review material helped me out quite a bit here. You start to get a feel of the tricks AAMC will try to throw you, especially for conceptual PS questions. Good luck dude!

One more Q, (sorry) how do you feel like the passages prepared you for the AAMC tests? Is the wording similar for both? Or are they a lot different?
Good luck to you too! Hope you tear it up!!
Not at all! I love different viewpoints on TBR, ive been contemplating using it for a while. Are you referring to all TBR books as overkill or just the PS books? I feel like the bio was a bit overkill after doing one chapter. Lemme know what you think! 🙂Not to butt myself into your converstaion, but i think TBR is excellent for review, and their passages help solidify the material. But the answers in the back may seem a bit patronizing. Also, TBR gets to a point where its just overkill. Sometimes there are too many passages with the same concepts, so its like answering the same question/topic over and over. Its good if you REALLY want to get it down.

Lmaoo this is great! I was procrastinating the other day and going through some threads. I looked through the April 5th, 2014 mcat thread and a lot of people were saying the BS section was really difficult, and how they wished they used TBR bio to study. Idk about all that though. I might just open up my human physio book for some topics I need more info on? Idk, i'll figure it out soon i guess.I think TBR Gen Chem are Physics are both VERY good. I like that TBR stresses quick math skills in the Physics portion, but in that same section, some of their questions are tricky, so you can get discouraged from them. EVERY comment in the answers in the back all say, pick this answer to know that you are great. Well if you got it wrong, that is the only reason you would look for the explanation, so its just seemed a bit condescending, like the author is a hot shot.
Whoever wrote the Biology section honestly needs to have a talk with the person who oversaw the production of this book. I read through 2/5 of the book, and then when I got to the second half, Good Lord. Who the heck made the person go through all of that. And then to write millions of passages for each of those sections. It was a waste of time for the author and any student who actually goes through it all. I genuinely felt bad for the author. It was overkill.
And then there's organic. Ohh Organic Chem..... Really, nobody really cares about you. We like your general concepts, but honestly we talk about you behind your back, you really suck.
No comment on TBR Organic. Im probably going to have a look at that section soon.
