MCAT Score: 34O - VR 10, PS 12, BS 12, O
BCPM GPA: 3.96
Overall GPA: 3.94
Very so-so ECs I think...please have a look at my MDapplicants and critique. http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?myid=6837

I'm very scared that since I haven't submitted my secondaries yet (I've received pretty much all of them) I won't really have much chance because all the gunners and good students got all the seats already. I'm sure I'm exaggerating though. I'm just super paranoid.

Can someone link me to a place or thread that shows which schools screen for MCATs/GPA/whatnot.

I've gotten secondaries from these places but I haven't submitted any yet and might not do all of them since I don't think I'm competative (because of my ECs):

Albany Medical College
Albert Einstein of Yeshiva University
Baylor College
Boston University
Brown University
Case Western Reserve University
Columbia University
Cornell University
Creighton University
Dartmouth College
Duke University
Eastern Virginia Medical School
Emory University
George Washington University
Georgetown University
Harvard University
Jefferson Medical College
Johns Hopkins University
Louisiana State University, New Orleans
Louisiana State University, Shreveport
Mayo Medical School
Mount Sinai School of Medicine
New York Medical College
New York University
Northwestern University
Rosalind Franklin University
Rush Medical College
Saint Louis University
Stanford University
Tufts University
Tulane University
University of Chicago
University of Pennsylvania
University of Rochester
Vanderbilt University
Wake Forest University
Washington University in St. Louis
Yale University

Please tear me to shreds.

Sorry, I can't tear you to shreds since you have a friggin' 3.9 cum and science and a 34 MCAT (and agreed, mediocre ECs but you have a high GPA and MCAT which should help tremendously). I would say to quit making excuses about your ECs and get those secondaries in ASAP since the delay only makes it less likely that you'll do well this cycle. Penn regular MD, NYMC, and NYU have no essays so those should be really quick secondaries for you to submit (NYMC takes like five minutes). Mount Sinai's essays are also really short. I know Baylor and Columbia have essays, but once you get in the groove of writing them you can probably answer their prompts relatively easily. I can't remember if AECOM has essays, but I want to say either A. no or B. they were really short. 👍

For those of you who got the UCs schools, were your AMCAS processed at that time?

I was thinking to add mine to the list too, but since I took the April MCAT, should I just add myself to the post-MCAT?... I submitted my amcas in mid September but it's still not processed.

Are you applying to Canadian schools? If not, don't worry about it. I have a similar WS score and honestly couldn't care less at this point. I'm more concerned about how long it will take to get an interview invite.

i'm only applying to US schools. I'm assuming from your post that you are implying that med schools only screen MCAT scores pre-secondary. Is this true?

also, I want to go to a top research med school (other than the obvious harvard, I'm looking at columbia, cornell, baylor). Do you know of any current med students that had a similar situation that I am in? I was told by a friend who got into baylor with a 40K that his score didn't matter, as long as you don't sound like a ******* in the essay/interview...but then again, a 40 is legendary.

Talk about left-brained...

You will be fine with an M in WS. No one really cares about that since the grading is subjective and the med schools can't see your actual essays. I'm talking about schools that don't and do screen pre-secondary. I've never heard of any US school turning someone down because of the WS. I would kill for that score you have. 👍

Thanks William~

Do you guys know what's the MCAT cutoff score for the UC schools and some of the NY schools?

Just got the Miami secondary today. Almost done filling it out. Just a few more questions about FL residency and I'm turning it in TONIGHT!

Edit: Just turned it in. 🙂 All I need to do now is mail in a picture of me and my LORs.

Depends completely on what schools you applied to. For instance, I think both Georgetown and GWU send them to everybody, but Miami and Rochester certainly don't.

I am pretty sure that they do not see your application until after it is verified. If that were the case, verification would be pointless. The AAMC wants to make sure the AMCAS is correct before they release it.

Thanks William~

Sorry, I really don't know much about those schools. I know UC schools are pretty hard to get into, though. UCSF screening for secondaries is pretty rough.

I e-mailed U Maryland after 6 days of them having my primary application. I asked a few people how long it took to get a secondary and they said 5 days exactly through e-mail. I got a reply saying it would be 2-3 weeks until I get one. They're not even a screening school iirc. Guess it will be a while...

Hey, anyone who's AMCAS verified still waiting on Drexel's Secondary? I was verified 10/4...and still no word from them yet....

I just got invited to Pittsburgh. Funny, I posted my essays and paid my fee about 10PM last night, and had an interview when I woke up this morning. Funny thing was the email claiming the "rigorous" screening process....but I doubt somebody saw my app between 10PM last night and 7AM this morning. Rigorous my foot! They must have already had me marked for an interview based on MCAT/GPA/AMCAS?

Funny you should day that, bc I have not filled out a secondary yet for a particular NY school (and took the Aug MCAT), I called the school Friday to ask about the secondary and the woman was reallllly nice and talked to me for like 15 minutes, and then proceeded to say, "For a heads up we interview on Weds". So I am sitting here wondering if they have in mind that they want to offer me an interview already before I have even completed the secondary? I hope it's a good sign🙂

Hehe im sorry, woops. Still do wanna know the stats tho 🙂

Yeah, this was an MCAT retake. Funny, though, because Pitt was one of the schools I called to ask about re-taking in August. They told me that my application would be put on hold until they received new MCAT scores. Since my first score was a respectable 30, but my recent score was a more respectable 37, I'm not sure which score they based the interview invitation on.

I'm complete at the two schools I am applying to this year (Dalhousie and Memorial) - transcripts, letters of reference, MCAT scores, ...

Anyone else applying to these schools? Send me a message if you are. =]

Sorry guys, I logged off right after I posted last night so I could watch the second season of "the Office." Hilarious.

Double major econ/bio from Brigham Young University
I feel like I have some really good EC's including publication and organizing a campus service group to help children with autism.
3.6 BCPM / 3.6 AO - SERIOUS upward trend from Freshman year 2.0
August 2005 MCAT = 30Q (7-PS 11-VR 12-BS)
August 2006 MCAT = 37M (11-PS 12-VR 14-BS) Ask if you want to hear the funny stories about 7->11 and Q->M.

Hey man, sorry about UCSD. I haven't heard from UCI or UCD, but have received positive feedback from others. Odd..

I want to hear the story, but let me guess. You abandoned the humanities and the newspaper for science textbooks. I disagree with a decline in writing skills - it's like riding a bike. It might be a little rusty for the first few seconds, but it'll be back in moments. Congratulations on the increase, nevertheless. Well done.

Well done.

Not quite, it's a better story. August 2005 I took the test in a testing center without bringing a watch, having been told that the proctor called out the time. Unfortunately, not so. I left 23 questions blank on the PS section. In August 2006 I took my own watch, but I guess I'm still a little slow because I still didn't get to 5-6 questions. Physics/Chem actually are pretty good areas for me.

As for the writing sample, the first time around I carefully framed my responses when I got the prompts. Just your basic 2 paragraph essay, small intro, small conclusion. Boring but effective enough for a Q, I suppose. This time around I spent ALL of my study time trying to beat the clock on PS and seriously almost forgot about the WS. When the big day came, I spent too long planning for prompt 1 and didn't finish it. Then, thinking I had to climb out of a ditch, I tried to get fancy on the second one, digging back to a few philosophy classes I had taken, and not structuring my writing well at all. Then I didn't finish that one. Oops.

My MCAT advice is to practice against the clock, and stick to the basics in the WS.
