the official COMAT shelf thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Taking it next month, did TurnUp2OMT because I couldn't stomach the idea of doing anything else. Kinda nervous for it because OMM is always my lowest section.
Not looking forward to this either. I got lucky and my exam isnt until April. figure itll be a good comlex review

For those of you that honored the FM comat how were you doing on UWorld. I am getting wrecked (60% on literally every single block and Im not seeing any improvement over the past almost 2 weeks). My plan is to do all the UW FM questions all of comquest FM, divine FM shelf videos, uspstf guideline stuff and Dr HY FM vid

We have to take it in a week and I have not studied for it at all. May just run through the OMM section of OME this weekend and do Saverese since that's what I did for Level 1 and it worked out. I just don't understand why we need to have an entire shelf exam on freaking OMM.

Just keep at it. UWorld FM is far more difficult than the COMAT so you should get a respectable COMAT score even with 60% on UWorld. Step 2 UWorld is a beast.

I got a 111 and all I did was Dorian because I hadn't bought UWorld yet so I think you'll be fine.

Anyone have any good resources for cardio phys review, specifically volume? (afterload, EDV, preload, etc) Embarrassing to ask but I have been struggling with this for all of med school and its really starting to bite my ass in uworld.

Might just break out castanzo again, idk.

Boards and Beyond is really tough to beat when it comes to cardio phys

I like kaplan questions for cardiac phys. B&B is my other go-to

111 is awesome makes me feel better. I was scared bc i havent had peds or OB yet and most of FM is that plus MSK. Praying i get all MSK questions lol
I had barely any peds on mine, a lot of OB, but **** we've already seen like repro stuff, nothing really involving babies

Has anyone bought B&B for Step 2 yet? I saw that their pricing for 3 months is $99, and if I split that with a friend it would be a pretty reasonable price come dedicated.

careful, daddy Ryan hates when people share an account. He has been known to contact people's schools and report them for "theft"

It was my first COMAT so I hadn't done anything yet either! You got this.

Curious-- what is everyone's overall UWorld average in the shelf review section so far?

Horrible-it hovers between 66% and 67% but I havent completed all IM questions so its probably inflated from that and psych. Other than that Ive only done Psych and FM questions. Yet my avg on comquest is like an 80% lmao Uworld CK is just effing hard

Took my last Comat today, emergency medicine. It was extremely difficult, and I ran out of time. When I had 4 minutes left I had to go on a mad clicking spree to click AN answer on a completely unread question x 15-20, and another 4-5 I didn’t even get a chance to click AN answer: went in feeling pretty good. I was nailing comquest questions and had like 116 predicted. Now just hoping to get out of it with a pass.
Update: got a 97

going in I really thought I would honor, but since I ran out of time on so many questions I am glad for the solid pass.

last Comat ever done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know if the OME Internal Medicine vids or the Divine Internal Medicine shelf review is good for family med shelf? What videos are best there really arent any family med videos anywhere. I usually do UW +comquest + OME vids but like i said OME doesnt have FM. Am i better off watching Peds and OB than IM vids?

I watched some OME IM for the FM comat, didn't really retain much. Did maybe half of uworld questions and honored it (112+ here). The comat was way easier than uworld by a huge margin.

73% with EM, OB, surgery and neuro left to do. I’m on neuro this block which isn’t a required rotation for us but I’ve been working through that section. Still have some bits and pieces left in the other subjects.

Isn’t uworld like 1500 questions just for IM? I think that is def enough

Im talkin bout FM but im saying there arent any FM vids for OME or divine. Was wondering if anyone knows of any. Im doing UW FM and comquest qs
I don’t think anyone makes fm specific videos except maybe for ABFM exam. But it was just a mix of im peds and light OB. Mostly IM honestly with a focus on ambulatory.

Thanks for sharing guys. I'm at a 71 right now but I know it's going to drop while doing these IM questions pre-Dorian. I've always spent a couple of weeks with Dorian before starting UWorld, but since there's soo many cards and questions for IM I had to start questions together with UWorld which stinks.

I dont really understand why my UWorld average is so low (66%) if my COMAT avg is a 118. I've only done psych, part of FM and part of IM but damn I wish I was in the 70s like the rest of yall. Maybe I should be using Anki? I don't use anki at all. If I drop on Step 2 im gonna be so upset

The dorian deck has given away a lot of uworld questions for me. I have no doubt it's artificially raising my uworld average. For step 1 I used uworld to gauge my knowledge, but now I use it to actually learn things that have never been taught to me, so I personally don't mind the big drop I've had between step 1 questions and step 2.

I agree with @Hippocrates II , Dorian is inflating my average-- it's pretty obvious since I'm doing much worse now that I'm doing IM questions pre-Dorian.

I’ve skipped Dorian just for that reason (uworld spoilage). I would really like uworld to be predictive before I take step 2/level 2.

I haven’t figured out how to study yet LOL. Just had my first comat in Psych a couple weeks back and I did 1/2 of case files, all of comquest, and all of Visitor’s psych deck. I felt really good walking out, but my school is apparently refusing to release my COMAT score for some reason so god only knows how I did.

I’m completely lost on IM. I have two weeks left on IM 2 and I haven’t had time to do much of anything yet. I do take the COMAT at the end of this rotation. I guess I’m just going to do comquest and that’s probably going to be it since I’m drowning in work for rotations with four patients every day. My rotation site has us doing MKSAP 18 that the residents use for ABIM prep so I feel like I will do reasonably well on the topics we’ve done MKSAP on already. I plan on going through the MKSAP questions for the sections we’ve already done before the COMAT. If I know something at the ABIM level I should be able to pass it on the COMAT... right? LMFAO. We start rheumatology on Monday and just finished heme/onc, but I didn’t really keep up and heme/onc is super ******* complicated so I’m reading back through it today.

I really want to save uworld entirely for dedicated. Maybe a stupid choice... we’ll find out.

I have been using Uworld as my primary source of study. I’m treating it less like a question bank to gauge my progress and more like a textbook that uses questions to teach. I got 106 on my IM comat doing that and 107 on OB. Not crazy high, but good enough for me.

Youll be solid for Step 2. One of the biggest predictors of Step 2 score is step 1 score and you did really well on Step 1. One thing ill add is DO NOT save UWorld for dedicated there are wayyyyy too many questions. Saving UW for dedicated for Step 1 is one thing but its nearly impossible for Step 2 lol just my opinion

There's too many damn questions. It's at 3700+ and they add new ones every day. It's insane.

Okay, you guys convinced me. I won’t start uworld now (still have all of comquest to do, sadly), but I’ll start next block if I have time. My current preceptor is making us look up high yield IM topics and do mini presentations every day on pathophys, presentation, how to treat, etc., so I feel like that alone is really helping with studying.

I have OB next and I hear our OB rotation is really rough and the OBs do hours and hours of didactics every week, so we’ll see how it goes. The upside is people apparently usually do well on that COMAT here LOL

Yeah I did comquest mainly on rotations to prepare for COMATS with only some UWorld as secondary questions, and I didn’t begin to crack the uworld q bank before taking Step 2. (I did do extensive reading/writing/studying from text books, primary sources, and UpToDate throughout rotations).

Sounds like a good plan! What I do so that I can prep for the comat and fit in UWorld questions is that I will start with UWorld to learn everything and then the last 5 days or so of the rotation leading up to the comat I will do 50 questions per day of comquest timed to simulate the style and get my timing straight. When im doing UWorld in the beginning usually I'll do 20-30 questions per day starting day 1 which takes me about 2 hours. Once you are doing 50 comquest questions you know more and can rip through reviews and spend more time reviewing the questions you got wrong and/or don't understand as well

On the Uworld topic, I've been focusing on comquest, but am still hoping to be done with Uworld before dedicated. If I do 23 a day I should be done before june and my test date is June 19th

On a funny note, came in for me 2 weeks of cardio today and was told my preceptor is on 2 weeks of vacation. Idk how this lack of communicating keeps happening.

Anyone have any tips on getting better at Derm questions. I literally have never been more frustrated with derm (papules, pustules blah blah it all sounds and looks the same to me lol). Family Med comat is littered with derm and its killing me

Its amazing how much uworld can affect my day. Had a really rough block and basically erased the upward progress I had made over the past few days.

The day just feels ruined and I'm just so irritated. Saying "Oh its a leaning resource" is fine and dandy but doesn't change the fact that I just ate trash.

I go from pulling a 75% to a 55% on the daily in IM if it makes you feel better that you're not alone. For reference, I was usually in the 75-85 range for every other subject. This sh** is hard, I totally feel you. I feel so defeated and this is the one shelf I care about my score of course lol. Trying not to let it crush my confidence too much, but I really feel this. I'm second guessing myself like crazy.

Feel the exact same and im in the same block as you. Hoping comquest will give the confidence boost I need before the exam.

I am so annoyed about this OMM COMAT tomorrow. I've done OME videos and read through Savarese and it has been literally painful to study for it. I am so ready to get this stupid test over with.

This is why I'm taking comlex first this June. I know If i do step first ill 100% do way worse on comlex cause I wont care

I’m taking step then COMLEX, mainly because I want to be fully charged for step and care wayyyyy less about COMLEX.

you guys sign up for level 2 PE?

I signed up for PE in late october so I could at least have a score by match dates in a worst case scenario

I could see myself flip flopping on if I do comlex or Step first. I did comlex first this past summer and it seemed to work out well, but I also had 2 weeks between the exams.

Pretty torn about it to be honest.
