I got the "continuing review" email.. Is that same thing as wait list?
 
same here for continuing review......is there a different waitlist email going out?
 
Anyone know when the continuing review list moves? Should we expect Jan or after?

Based on the email, it sounds like it moves as quickly as people start deferring their offers. And I would guess that won't happen anytime soon. I can't blame them, I would take my time too.
So yes, after January is probably a good estimate.
 
I'm not sure about the earliest they start responding to people that didn't get in on the 1st of Dec. but I know in the past years I've heard of some getting acceptance around 1/25 to 2/25. You can read the past years threads on SDN and see if you can get better information. If anyone does, please post it!

Regarding the "waitlist"/continuing review email, I pasted mine below. Reading through past threads over the last two years, this email hasn't changed at all. Information from those threads and this year's thread, it's my understanding that ECU responds to everyone on the 1st of Dec with either an acceptance email or this "waitlist"/continual review email, but no rejections. So we all fell in one of those two categories, and will remain there until their class is full. This information is TOTALLY from SDN threads!! Given I only pay attention to people that state their source of information is ECU. Yet, I have no solid facts to back it up, only what other people have said. I have not had to time to look through and see how many people are in either category on Dec 1st or how many that were waitlisted today got accepted in the end. If anyone does please post it!!

QUESTION - What have other people heard from ECU today? In other words, how many of us are going to be waiting for better news? Has anyone received a different response other than acceptance or "waitlist"/continual review?


EMAIL FROM ECU that is being called the "waitlist" or continuing review email:

As promised, we wanted to update you regarding the status of your application to the ECU School of Dental Medicine. We appreciate your interest in our school, and we enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with you. At this point in time, your application is currently under active review by the Admissions Committee, but a final decision has not yet been made.

A rolling admissions process, such as ours at ECU, is very dynamic, and it is important that we remain in close communication throughout the remainder of the admissions cycle. Just as you will receive information regarding the status of your application at other schools, we will continue to receive additional information about our applicants.

If you receive offers of admission from other schools, we would encourage you to consider them carefully. Should you choose to accept one of those offers, we would appreciate your notifying us, so that we can make the appropriate notations in your admissions file. However, should you receive an offer that you are seriously considering, but you still want to actively pursue admission at ECU, we would urge you to contact us to see when we might project that a final decision regarding your application could be made.

Again, we appreciate your considering our school for your professional education, and look forward to continuing to be in contact with you during the admissions process.

I got the continuing review email as well. Well from what it seems like compared to other threads is that not many were accepted today. So what I think is that they accepted a few applicants and they are still deciding amongst the ones who have interviewed already and the ones that will be interviewing soon. But who knows this is my guess/what I am hoping for.
 
i heard there was an interview date @ ECU this wednesday! that makes me nervous... for no good reason though.
 
Did anyone who received this email reply? I wonder how many of us there are!

Did anyone NOT receive an email today? I have not received an email from ECU (acceptance or the continuing review one). Does that mean rejection or maybe the email did not go through??
 
That seems weird, Changedude. I'd wait a couple days and then give them a call, because I'm pretty sure everybody who has interviewed was supposed to get one or the other.

FWIW, I got the crappy one. :-(
 
I just find it odd that there isn't more talk on this section about acceptance emails. Maybe there aren't a lot of ECU people on SDN, maybe there weren't many acceptances yet. I am hoping for the latter...

Someone on the thread last year said very few acceptances went out December 1st. 20 or something like that. Not sure how true that is but it certainly gives a lot of hope, especially considering there's likely overlap with other schools and some of those 20 will turn it down.
 
I was placed on the ECU "wait-list" last year and did not receive the email until late February. My understanding from this, and other interviews at different schools, is that each school will fill around 2/3 of their class seats on the first round of admissions. They will then meet again around January and either fill the rest of the seats, or fill some and meet one more time in February. A "wait-list" isn't made until all seats are filled. Then people are pulled from the wait-list only if something comes up and an accepted student decides not to attend for whatever reason. Again, this is just my understanding so take it for what it's worth. The wait-list email read as follows:

Thank you for submitting your application for admission to the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. We appreciate your interest in the Doctor of Dental Medicine program, and are glad we've had the opportunity to visit with you to learn more about your background, credentials and interests.

The 2012 admissions cycle has proven to be extremely competitive, and the Admissions Committee has had to make some difficult decisions among a large number of highly talented and dedicated candidates. At this point in the admissions process, based on the numbers of tuition deposits received and current offers pending, we anticipate that our class is close to being filled.

Please know that the Admissions Committee feels very strongly about your potential contributions to the program at ECU, and believes that you would be a strong addition to the 2012 entering class. We have therefore placed your application in an unranked waiting pool status for 2012. Please understand that this pool is not ranked, and there is no guarantee of admission. However should positions in the class become available, candidates who are in the waiting pool will be considered for offers of admission. Please understand that we are a not in a position to provide any information regarding how many students are in the pool, nor can we make projections when any student may receive communication regarding an offer.

We fully realize how stressful the admissions process is, and are striving to keep our candidates advised regarding the status of their specific applications. We remain grateful for your interest in ECU.

I'm keeping all of you who are waiting to hear back in my thoughts. I know it must be nerve-wracking! What other schools did you apply to?

Hey guys anyone that was accepted at ECU also get accepted from UNC?
 
I didn't send in my UNC app until late so I hadn't heard from them yet. But ECU was by far my first choice, so I'm not overly concerned if I ever hear from them. Most of the people that I talked to who'd interviewed heard from or the other (or none:<)
 
yeah it certainly seems that way. I interviewed at both and heard back from ECU but not UNC. You personally ranked ECU higher than UNC? May I ask why?

Well theres only 50ish seats. and most of those members are probably not on SDN?

I was accepted to both! and I know one of the main reasons was networking (over two years at both schools), getting my name out there, and have some serious interview skills!

Many reasons, mainly I like that their program is more geared towards creating dentist who can operate in an independant environment. I also feel like there's a a lot more dialogue going on btw the students and the faculty in a school that is beginning to establish itself. Plus I just thought the overall environment was more friendly and more engaging. Everything about chapel hill screamed diploma factory to me.

I do recognize why UNC is a desirable choice for others, but not for what I'm wanting to do.

I'm totally with you on that statement. I love East Carolina's mission, it's going to make such an amazing impact on the state and esp for those patients who really need treatment and have no access to a dentist! I'm in on the Facebook page once I hear back lol 🙂

May I ask which one you are choosing to attend (UNC or ECU)? and why?

Just wondering in case I have to make the same decision in the future.

When I interviewed with dr wilson she gave me her card and said if you have any questions you can give me a call...when she did that it worried me...to me it sounded like "when you do not get accepted give me a call an we'll talk about why" Did she give anybody else her card?
 
I got her card too. I didn't feel it was that way... I think she gave everyone her card, not sure tho
 
I just interviewed last week and Dr. Wilson gave me her card, too. Don't think it means anything either way.
 
When someone conducts an interview, whether it is for a job or for academic purposes, it is considered ethical for them to give you their business card. It does not mean you will be rejected or accepted. I applied last year and received several business cards, but was not accepted. I made sure to contact those that interviewed me to ask them what I could do to improve myself for the next application cycle. I followed their advice and was accepted this year. I received several business cards at this second interview just as I had during my first interview.

Guys, if we put down the tuition deposit...how committed are we to the school? I have some january interviews that i want to wait to hear the answer to. If i decide to go to another school-can i still withdraw?
 
I think you can put a deposit in and then withdraw... While it may not be the "professional" thing to do I think you'd be fine. On the ADEA/ AADSAS website it mentions that all schools will see exactly which students put deposits down on a certain date (April maybe?). It's looked down upon to put in multiple deposits, so schools can take back their offer even with the deposit down if they see you have other deposits. I'm interested to know how many are in the facebook group too!
 
No one, cept me =.= (I ended up having to add my bf on just so I could make the group since I don't know anyone who got in.) It'd be nice if we had a chance to kind of get to know eachother before august. If anyones interested please let me know.
 
anyone interview after december 3rd? if so, have you guys heard anything?
